The most important thing I'm seeing out of Heineman is his ability to make the right play and execute it.
I love seeing a rookie winger head man the puck at the perfect time while keeping the pace up.
Most of our wingers don't even see the play to begin with.
Heineman is better with better players he just is.

I was potentially worried about IQ but he’s making smart plays and good passes all the time from what I seen.

He’d probably do well in place of Newhook at this point. I feel he’d be great for Dach and Laine, speed but also physicality and puck retrieval , I don’t get why he hasn’t gotten his audition yet, he’s been great.

He's done quite well so far. Considering a few of us (myself included) were starting to have some doubts.

I heard Marty talking about him as being in the perfect chair.
I think he needs to expand his belief in the player and explore his capacity to take on more.
Like Hutson you don't hold back progress you run with it until you have to pull back.

I've always liked this player.

Even if he had nothing else, his motor is almost impressive enough to be an nhler in itself but I also like his forcheck, ability to power to the net, and he gets pucks off his stick quickly.

I'd like to see him get some top 6 time when they are looking to shake things up.

Anderson is a closer comparison to Heineman than Lehkonen. Lehkonen was awesome defensively, and I'm not seeing that from Heineman right now.

How? Heineman has good wrist shot on pace for 20 goals. Playing 4th line minutes. He's 25 goal scorer playing in top six. Maybe 30 in his career year.

I would continue playing him right where he is...he is developing against lesser players...his time will come

I mean Anderson paced for 25 goals a season in his first 3 years in MTL, so it does kind of fit the profile you described.

Newhook should move down, and have EH on with Dach and Laine. The boys can show Dach how to finish!!

His strength and speed impress me but what really sticks out is how hard he works and how smart he is on the ice.
People fail to remember that he only played 59 AHL games and scored 22 goals.

I don't.
After his debut in Laval I was sure he was taking the next step the following year.
He didn't have a great camp which he would have needed to displace Ylonen.

I mean Anderson paced for 25 goals a season in his first 3 years in MTL, so it does kind of fit the profile you described.

I see vision in Heineman's game Anderson will never have.

Things haven't gone as smoothly for them this season.

I'm totally down to try Emil on the 2nd line - swap him with Newhook. I made the same comment on the Laine thread.

I saw Stankoven strugglin a mile away he had too many flaws to not get exposed at some point but Wyatt I really don't understand. I'm one of those that would have bet big on him being over a PPG this year, he is still their most used FWD. Their PP isn't good enough and Bourque's transition from the AHL to NHL isn't good either so far. Maybe Seguin's injury is hurting them more than they would like.

I like what Heineman is doing with his TOI. I'd like to see what he could do with 13-14ish min instead of 9-10. As crazy as it's sound tho, you can't take time away from Anderson, Gally or Armia, they are all playing well. Only way I see it is to put Newhook on the bottom6 and Heineman with Dach-Laine

I think the fact that we don't currently have a better center he can play with other than Suzuki can't be ignored.

Sometimes there's no reasoning, progression isn't always an arrow that points up. That's why I reserve judgement on Dach or Newhook for example, it takes time to build consistency in your game.

I wouldn't change too much, I think Heineman is in the perfect spot right now. But that's a guy who next year and beyond will have a bigger role.

Heineman's job this year was to solidify a spot on the NHL team. He's done just that. Now he needs to continue to do it. If he keeps it up, at some point, he will move up the line-up. But right now, he's fine where he is.

What I've noticed with him lately is that he doesn't fall as much. Earlier in the year, he was still playing physical and laying body checks, but he would fall after those checks. He doesn't fall anymore. He's stronger on his skates.
