Maybe 1 game though?

I could see an argument being made for a 1 game suspension...I honestly would disagree with a 1 game suspension, but I would understand it to a certain extent.

I don't think there was any intent, if there's a 1 game suspension then it has to be for reckless play.

He really gave him the lumber there. Cross-check to the ribs sent Spezza head first into the boards. Suspension coming up.

Correct call, can't put your stick/hands on the player who is that far from the boards so this **** doesn't happen.

Spezza turning shouldn't change anything, he was going to reverse and play the puck. Emelin could/should have used his stick to play the puck instead of the body, esp in that position.

Dumb player makes dumb play.

Just wish players would learn not to turn towards the boards at the last second. The other player hasn't got time to re-act.

Such an off way to view how to stop these types of things from happening.

That other player should ACT not RE-act in that situation. When nearing that area of the ice the 'other player' should know what the outcomes may be going for a hit. DUMB play.

Any questionable play by a Habs player induces a Pavlovian response from Bruins fans ..

Pot - Kettle. If that was Lucic making that hit this thread would be 1,000 posts long by now with a heavy heavy representation from Habs fans. And you know it. If not, you're truth challenged.

Looking at the replay, to me, it looks like he was trying to pin him to the boards but there was more of a gap between Spezza and the boards than he'd thought and Spezza went down.

I don't blame the ref for the call, but I think 5 + game was a tad much. I doubt there'll be anything supplemental.

WAT? U think this deserves 3 games? I'm sorry but this is all on Spezza, he even tries to embellish(force of contact would in NO WAY propel him like that) to sell the call. Fortunately the glass outsmarted him this time.

He was really committed to selling this one, I guess.

Not an unexpected post, but for years turning has been an important part of skating. Many even use it in games. The "last second" is hard to determine, since most don't have the ability to read an opponents mind to know exactly when they'll be crosschecked in the back.

Dumb crosscheck by Emelin, nothing more than that.

Refreshing honesty.

Send him to Boston for a 7th rounder for his punishment.

but it does, if he doesnt turn then there is no boarding and no injury. Just a cross check to keep Spezza to the outside. (which is still bad btw, im not saying Emelin was right to do it)

Emelin should get suspended for stupidity. Even if Spezza wasn't going to turn, he would've ended up cross checking him.

Real life suspension for a malicious play? No way.

Spezza definitely turned right as he picked up the puck and had no reason to. Emelin (quite logically) thought Spezza was going to continue skating with it around the net rather than cut back in to him (which creates nothing offensively). Emelin had to push him to stop him from quickly cutting out in front of the net. Good defensive play. Terrible offensive play. Spezza is 100% to blame.

Forcing a player to the outside with a light cross check happens at least 100 times a game in the NHL. Usually offensive players are smart enough not to cut back into it while in front of the boards.

Unfortunate hit but not suspendable IMO. Dumb play nonetheless by Emelin because while I don't think the boarding was intentional, the crosscheck clearly was.

Useles 4.1 million player is useless anyway.
