At this point, I'm done expecting anything consistent from Pettersson other than inconsistency. I'm not sure there's another star player in recent memory who has been more up-and-down—season-to-season, year-to-year. Just hoping this dreaded patellar tendonitis finally heals one of these years.

Surprise surprise, JT Miller comes back and gets the Quinn Hughes ice time treatment and now Pettersson can't get the puck.

Pettersson is a star but no player can do it all on their own. Every successful star forward has a puck moving defenceman helping to generate zone time. What Pettersson has behind him on a nightly basis is absolutely atrocious.

Pettersson has every right to be unhappy about this. He carried the team in JT's absence and now the fans are out for him again.

So the team just handed out the biggest contract in franchise history to a guy whose performance is entirely dictated by playing with a specific defenseman?

At this point, it's hard to track all of the excuses.

Every single star player has a puck moving defenceman.

Pettersson cannot be expected to go end to end on every shift. This is a failure of coaching and management.

I don't think anyone would be angry if he was playing like he did before signing that extension.

I bet he wishes he didn't sign it. Could have dictated where he was traded to and signed for more money. And he wouldn't have had an angry teammate slashing him in practice.

A bunch of ungrateful fans in this city who sure didn't complain when he was outperforming his contract.

So we should be grateful with the way he's playing right now?

I wish I had this much leeway at work

I love how people like to compare their jobs to high performing athletes. Unless you're like a brain surgeon or a rocket scientist or something, sit down, your daily existence is no comparison.

I'm sure Pettersson busted his ass for 20 years to be the athlete he is, just to cash in and kick up his legs as soon as he signed this contract.

Yeah my heart bleeds for him. those bastard fans (and teammates) holding him accountable for a long stretch of mediocre play after signing a huge contract extension. Poor him.

Exactly, you just proved my point. They should be under more scrutiny because they are professional athletes making millions.

And your second point is very possible. Lots of examples of players doing that

I don't feel bad for him. He has $90m reasons to be happy, and if this market gets to be too annoying all he has to do is wait for a few months and ask for a trade, and take his pick from 31 teams.

Of course the same fans who were outraged he wasn't signing and are now outraged he signed, will also be outraged when he asks for a trade. Just bad fans all around and nobody should pay attention to them, they make this market a place where players don't want to play.

Oh, my point was that you have no idea what it's like to perform at that level and shouldn't be comparing anything in your life to that.

I don't think anybody expected him to play like this when he signed his extension, and it's been 10 months and counting since we have seen the superstar that Petey can and should be. I think at this point it is fair to be frustrated with his performance.

I have been on Petey's side since the beginning, you can go back and check my post history if you want, but for a player that is paid as one of the top player in the league, I don't think the fans are out of line being disappointed/frustrated/upset with his recent performance. If being held accountable is too much for him and makes us "bad fans" (your words), then I really don't think Petey should be playing in this market. Maybe a city that draws 5k to home games and don't care about winning is more to his liking. Personally I don't believe he thinks like that, this is more likely something fans made up as a way to cope when star players leave.

What markets draw 5k to games? Perhaps you're referring to the kinds of markets that have won all the recent Stanley Cups and also have much lower taxes.

If you're a fan that was outraged about these things and are going to be outraged when he asks for a trade, yes, you're a bad fan.

are you saying filling arenas and subsidizing american markets and paying high taxes makes us bad fans for holding our highest paid player accountable now? Or a soft climate with 1 major sports team filled with bleeding hearts is a tough city?

You think this market is full of bleeding hearts? Really? That's delusional.
