Elias Pettersson: Double down or sell?

Meh. Nucks should just keep him for now. I think he’s a player that could benefit from the break, join some families faces and play with elite wingers to get him going for team Sweden.

Canucks should billet/ mentorship program over the summer with Sportsdesk panel Bieska / Marty Biron/ Ron Maclean ….. to bring inclusive- ness and joy 🤩 back into his life and therefor inclusiveness and joy back into the Vancouver Canuck dressing room.

“ all we need is ❤️ love Baby”

Gotta love how he jumps into the hit and lands on his legs like that, very characteristically. Like, blank out the player from waist up and you can still see it's Petey. Also good he shoves him through the body and not the head.

I think the Canucks would be ok moving on from him if the return was at least a Necas level player. If not, it just makes more sense to keep him. The chance he’ll bounce back is still higher than finding another 26 yr old 100pt C on the open market.

There's just as much to like as there is to dislike about Pettersson. He's quite the enigma. Whether the Canucks keep him or trade him they'll probably be making the wrong move either way.

Tough year for an elite 26 old.

Do any nucks fans really want to trade him?

I can’t parse through the trolls on this board anymore. Too much.

He's trending towards being a player that only performs when the environment is perfect for him. If he ends up being that guy it's tough to justify almost 12m for him. But maybe he turns it all around tomorrow, who knows. Crazy to go from a top 5-7 center to a 50 point forward immediately after signing a massive contract.

I think if you're Vancouver you gotta just write off this season as an off-year for Petey and hope he bounces back. The problem with trading him-aside from selling low-is that you'll basically have to go through a new rebuild.

Also Pettersson needs to get surgery for whatever is ailing him, it's been hinted multiple times that he isn't fully healthy.

Quinn's the captain.
Yes he is.

EP is still the highest paid player and the player their forward lines are built around.

The locker room was, reportedly, taking sides and they picked their side. Him not having a C on his jersey doesn't change anything I wrote.

Context. He's playing the worst hockey of his career after signing a long-term contract.
The contract being "un-tradeable" is ridiculous since $11+mil will be the norm for top line players after the next two off-seasons.
There are absolutely teams that would trade for a guy who has put up 100 points in a season within the last couple of years, no matter what his current play level is barring some massive injury.
Hell, people have been trading for Laine over and over again and we are getting near 10 years removed from his career high of 70 points and he still makes almost $9 mil.

Vancouver writing off a full year and trading a 95 point center to cater to Pettersson, is he delivering multiple cups in the next couple years or what?

As I have said before on this board, if you trade EP40, you are not getting back a player who can post 100 point seasons and be a difference maker (a long shot for the incoming player). You would get a quality player and reasonable draft pick, the problem is that Vancouver has a lot of good pieces and need a 1 C now. I believe (hope?) that EP40 can bounce back and the last Allvin interview was very telling (I believe) as he said (i am parpahrasing here) "EP40 was humbled and approached management and staff in realizing what he needed to do, to maintain elite status in the NHL". As a Canuck fan, I can only hope EP40 can find his way back, make him train with Crosby in the off season lol (lower body strength).

Pretty ridiculous that the guy with the 6th highest AAV in the league has been shit for over a year now because the vibes are off.

They should trade him. With a contract like that you’ve gotta be bringing it every night. Especially in the playoffs.
Yup. Oh great they traded the big bad Miller, so he should be happy but he's still ass. Even if he's coddled and catered to, what happens when the next bad thing comes up?

Blows my mind that anyone thinks this is a guy a team should hitch their wagon to. I almost get trading Miller, but only if you trade this bitchass too

How many "off years" does he get?

He's only had 1-2 "on years"

The Canucks showed they don't care about having a 100 pt center when they dumped Miller for pennies
