Great game for Petey. Looks like he's getting some of his footspeed back, and isn't shying away from traffic with the puck on his stick. Couple of nice little vintage Alien moves.

Was Pettersson's best game over the last 60+ games. Skated well was creating chances all over the ice.

I thought there were times he was itching to bring out Dekey Pete but it's like his confidence is still 5-10% short.

He and Hughes out together was tough to control for Detroit as their skill and IQ was unmatched.

Wish he was more dangerous as a shooter but can't complain about this one.

Damn those “bursts” prevented him from completing a simple saucer pass while on the PP.

And he healed overnight at the start of a home stand. Surprised the training staff didn’t apply that special medicine earlier if it worked that quick.

Yes, he backed off the defence and executed a perfectly timed drop pass for DeBrusk to skate on to at full speed.

If you don't think this is a highly skilled play then I don't know what to tell ya. The only other player on the team who has that kind of vision (and guts to make that play) is Hughes.

You missed the point of the post. Im not saying he needs to score highlight reel goals. He doesnt have the confidence right now or physical ability to try anything creative or be aggressive. He skates in and defers 95% of the time now.

Thats like if Matthews randomly stopped shooting tomorrow.

it was three on three and Detroit massively overcommitted up ice. he took a pass moved towards the middle of the ice and saw DebBrusk had a chance to take it wide and he left the puck for him. he didn't have to hit a guy in stride, there was literally no deception required or danger in leaving the puck for a wide open teammate (he could see every Detroit player on the ice). that play was mostly Hughes seeing Detroit f*** up and hitting EP in stride with a good stretch pass (hardly remarkable though as he does it probably 10 times/g) and Debrusk with an absolute snipe. Pettersson connected the plays, but didn't do anything particularly special to create the opportunity IMO.

But he put up 100 assists, then broke Gretzky's assists record in the playoffs, but only scored 8 goals.

I'm very happy to see Pettersson battling out of the doldrums he's been in. Still a ways to go to get back to his true form but these are massive steps in the right direction. I can't really comment much more as to any specifics in his play because I haven't been able to watch much hockey lately. All I can see is the points are starting to come.

why would a player get their head ripped off for that play? it wasn't a blind drop pass at the blueline with 9 other moving pieces on the ice. he was literally starring right at debrusk and could see he was open. zero risk.
