100% mental, was never about an injury
He couldn’t even complete a pass previously
But when he is on, he makes passes like the branstrom goal
Yup. The difference in engagement virtually overnight is just blatantly obvious.
You guys do realize that physical injuries takes time to heal.. You don't go from like 50%-100% overnight and also it takes time to get confidence back even when the body has healed to a certain point. We hear it all the time from athletes across all sports, it takes time for people to believe in their body again and feel comfortable to push the limits of their body.100% mental, was never about an injury

Still doesn’t seem to have that extra gear in his skating as in past years.Yup. The difference in engagement virtually overnight is just blatantly obvious.
I think he's just figuring out how to play without relying on pure speed and pure power. I don't think he will recover from tendonitis this season, probably need another off season of training to really really get around it.Still doesn’t seem to have that extra gear in his skating as in past years.
Yep.Still doesn’t seem to have that extra gear in his skating as in past years.
Its hilarious to watch some people talk about Petey, mention how he looked bad for half the season when he came back from injury, and how similar he looks this season to that season, but still try and say injury isn't a current factor...
We know he was injured then and coming back from wrist surgery, we know he was injured this year and coming back from knee issues. Hey look both times it took him time to get up to speed! Shocked.
This isn't to say confidence isn't part of it, it sure as hell is when you are dealing with injuries you are not confident you can do certain things and it takes time to come back.
People also state elite players don't have slumps like this... then don't look at Mckinnon in his down years, and I am sure other players too had similar down times, I think Karlsson did if memory serves me. We just like being hard on this player... and i don't know why.
Criticism is fair... but being open to information is also a must. Knowing not all players react the same and some injuries are worse for certain players/people, and look at history to help form opinions.
Having a rational debate would be looking at evidence and trying to figure out what is leading to his drop in play. Saying "he is just dogging it" is not looking at evidence, that's just treating personal opinion as fact. Having injury and injury limiting physical effectiveness is a hypothesis, the evidence is edge data showing he is slower, shoots with less power.I'm fully behind Pettersson so excited to see his game turn around here, it's just odd having someone try to convince you it MUST be an injury and smear it in your face as his game turns around - Because the fact that his game is turning around is somehow proof it was a knee injury? I don't get the correlation.
Sounds like you're more invested in being right, rather than having a rational debate about what was wrong.

I find it funny that everyone acknowledge that when a player gets older and loses a step, their game becomes less effective but if a player has an injury that causes him to lose a step, well somehow that can't be used to explain why their game became less effective.
Literally everyone, including Pettersson : Pettersson is not hurt.
Tocchet, management, media : The issue is compete and moving his feet. There is concern. They're working hard to fix it.
*Pettersson obviously shows better engagement and compete*
Fans : Obviously his non-existent injury has magically healed!
I honestly can't even.
Basically my take as well although his skating still doesn't look 100%.You're just exaggerating one side of the debate.
I have not personally said or thought 'he is just dogging it'.
I think his poor play has been more mental and he's over thinking the game. Not skating and not shooting the puck - this doesn't mean you think someone isn't trying. The try has been there but his fundamentals are all out of whack he's never in the right place making the right play. THAT has been different the last two games. Honestly a totally different player I hope he keeps it up.

Lock er up. Pick up the pitchforks because now it's time to put heat on JT Miller!
It was a joke (JT Miller is also playing with some injury too).Yeah he was particularly bad last night with his two primary assists on the first two goals

Skating stats showed how fast he was when he was fully healthy for one full season with a healthy offseason prior to it. In 2021, he missed like 9 months and part of the offseason because of his wrist injury, if anything you would expect the 2021 season to reflect the impact of a loss off season of training. As I've said many times now, those skating stats are absolutely worthless unless you can tell me what his skating numbers looked like in 2021 when he was playing equally terrible.
The organization has been about as cut-and-dried as they could possibly be that this is not an injury issue. And if there was even a hint that this was injury related, it would have been released to relieve pressure on the player.
Right or wrong... he HAD AN INURY and it was reported... that is fact. Like that isn't up for debate...
