Don’t think the Canucks should trade him what so ever. I think they should let him rest his knee because it’s clearly causing the issue with skating speed declining and him not being able to get power on his shot like he normally can.

The decline from when he’s at his best speed and shot power wise compared to now. His defense has actually gotten better so it’s not an effort issue with him.

Wow this really puts it into perspective.

The problem with the "rest him until he's 100%" argument is that - and someone can correct me if I'm wrong here - playing doesn't make it worse and there's no timeline for when it will heal.

So like, what if he still has this issue through April, May, June? What if it's still there next October? Allegedly it didn't heal over the entire summer.

How long can you afford to keep him out of the lineup? What is a reasonable amount?
That's the problem with this whole situation: it's so vague. It makes it easy to rest on the injury laurels.

I know we have a bad history with our medical staff but I know for a fact if there was even a slight possibility that this was due to a serious injury the organization would be more proactive. Or Pettersson himself would make them be proactive. We've seen players start to talk to the media (even though players usually don't like whining publicly about injuries) when there's a clear disconnect with the organization about the issue. If it was an injury that wasn't being handled right we'd know by now. It would be indeed be a scandal like we've seen in the past.

And there's absolutely no sign of a scandal.

I wonder what the Canucks are doing here with Petey. In baseball when a pitcher loses his velocity that gets analyzed and worked on.

Ride or die we are married to Pettersson. My gut says he finds his way out of this.

He's having a crisis that as many have speculated is likely related to being exposed to the toxicity of social media. At some point he'll come to Jesus and cut that shit out of his life and could become a better player in the long run for it.

It's not guaranteed, but that's where my bet lies.

Pete is not quite at the end of the line yet, but he's trending towards that direction, which is very alarming.

Whatever the reasons may be, they ALL fall to a single question at the end: is he contributing like an 11.6 mil per year player? As of now, the answer is a resounding "absolutely NOT."

We can speculate on reasons that led to his current slump, and he can say all the right things to the team, fans and media, but at the end, the question above is what he'll have to contend with.

I was in that place before, it feels like I put in the effort, and I tried to talk myself up but without tangible result, all of that is worthless.

Pete needs to get himself out of this quagmire - the walls are closing in, and the focal point of the magnifying glass will heat up very quickly.

Continuing the activity causing the tendonitis makes it worse.

Hes a Calder winning PPG player. Drance looked back at all career PPG players and none of them fall off permenantly.

This happened to Willy Nylander too. But even this year probably won't even be as bad as his slump

There's really nothing closing in on him. He has a guaranteed contract. As they all do in the NHL.

I don't think the blathering online about his contract concerns him too much.

The sooner everyone just moves on from it, the sooner it will turn around. And it will.

Its also funny to read ppl getting more outraged because his contract is 4 million more than it was. It's just numbers. Pro athletes are overpaid. It has always been this way.

I'll continue to think the same personel that was incompetent before and is still employed is still incompetent until I see a reason to change my mind.

Ive yet to hear an alternative explanation why his top speed has fallen from 94th percentile to 50th percentile ever since the injury that is "not causing his poor play" surfaced.

One thing our management has shown consistently is their willingness to fix mistakes quickly at any cost, they do not f*** around. If Pete ends up being a mistake, he will be dealt with, whether he likes it or not.

Of course, he still got a reasonably generous amount of time to fix things. I myself do not entertain the thought of trading him at the moment. But that does not mean the patience of fans and the team is without limit.

I also wonder this - Mackinnon had a sports psychologist he worked with, and so did Stuart Skinner (although that hasn't worked for him to start the season). I know they have a team psychologist but it might be time to get outside help.

I think he has hurt feelings over the contract negotiations when the team gave him the Carolina ultimatum. It's affected his play. Kinda like when you have a break up and then try and get back together but it's never the same after. This is Pettersson.

The only conceivable way to move him is to get a career PPG player in return. Ownership would have to approve of a Petey trade. And that is unlikely. We are stuck with him (thankfully imo)

Do you have any names ? Who could we possibly get at the same calibre ?

Peteys struggles should be looked at as a curiosity more than anything else. Because he's here to stay

Well it’s more like “we’ve been together for many years and every time I wanted to discuss marriage and our future together you would avoid the discussions. I can’t wait forever. Marry me or breakup.”

Shouldn’t be hurt feelings like a breakup.

Is Pettersson himself incompetent? Why isn't he pleading his case? As I outlined in my post, we've seen players start to go public when there's a disconnect about an injury. They talk to the media. They get second opinions.

It isn't a f***ing injury. I'm honestly losing my patience over this. If it actually is, then everyone in the organization relevant in this situation needs to be fired (management, coaches,.medical staff, his agent etc) and Pettersson needs to ask himself why he didn't do shit about it. It would be the most bizarre injury situation I've ever seen if it ends up being the case.

But it won't be.

If it’s an injury he’s obviously not going to go around blabbing about it.

“Yeah guys my knee is toast, hanging on by a thread. Sure hope none of my opponents target it.”

Until it gets to the point the team has to take him out of the lineup and make a formal move to IR and put it on paper nobody is obligated to say anything about it.

I already stated, I am not thinking about him being traded, not sure how much more clear I can say it.

It would be much less concerning if his slump was not an extension from last season half.

Like I said, he does have time to improve, but he HAS to improve, period. Injuries, nerves, whatever excuse there may be, at the end of the day, it's the numbers on ice that will do the speaking.

I'm interested to know if this is still the same or close to. When Pettersson was a rookie, Botch, jPat, etc would record the podcast at the rink and talk about how every practice he was the first on, last off, setting the example for work ethic.

Even staying after for an hour or whatever just working on his shot or other skills and eventually other guys would join him until there was an extended practice essentially.

Is he still that guy? Letting his work ethic set the example for his teammates? I realize if he is having issues with his knee still then that plays into him wanting to do extra work, but still curious.

He had to deal with Loui for years, maybe he realized that no matter how hard he works, his payout is exactly the same at the end of the day.

Well that's true about Eriksson, his work ethic was the trashiest of the trash. There wasn't as much overlap between the two.

Eriksson played 1 full season and a little more then half of another, plus 7 games of another with EP before he was traded.

Disagree.

Just the medical staff needs to be revamped.

But we wont get anywhere with this discussion so lets leave it.
