Not at all saying we should do this, but hypothetically, you could trade marner for eichel. Make Eichel #2 center and shift Tavares to the wing where he may age better. There are scenarios, I’d just call them unlikely at best

I'll say it again: Marner straight up.

- Buffalo might go for it because they're under pressure and certainly won't get fair value plus Marner's deal was very front loaded so there are monetary incentives.

- Eichel has a give-a-shit quality to his game that this team seems to be missing.

- The team clearly needs a shakeup and a message sent.

To me there are 2 issues with Eichel I'm concerned about - #1 Health #2 Attitude. I think with #2 its debatable only because we don't truly know how Buffalo has been with him as an organization and the inability of that management to even put together a playoff team may be weighing on him. His health on the other hand is a huge concern, no value if dude is hurt half the time. Also only way this happens in my opinion is if Leafs are trading one of the big 4, and I think its clear that won't be happening....atleast not yet.

Don't see it. A centre (making big money) isn't exactly a team need. Being divisional rivals doesn't seem to be the biggest help either, even when taking into consideration the look that the teams are going in very opposite directions. There exists the potential for a sizable reward here. Conversely, I'd guess the risk to be just as big.

Facts without context are useless. Just like your argument. Did you take into account quality of linemates or competition into your in depth assessment?
What is your facts to support your claim.

Marner has produced better. Is better defensively. Makes players on his line better. Is not a dressing room issue. Kills penalties. It all adds up to a much better player.

If the Leafs didn't have Matthews I could see a case being made for a Marner/Eichel swap.
