Longer the season goes and their is no extension I think the writing will be on the wall and Chevy needs to move him, this organization cannot afford to let UFA's like Ehlers walk for free. I prefer we re sign him but if he wants out he wants out
On the other hand, it's unlikely the Jets go very far in this promising season without Ehlers contribution at 5v5 and now on PP1.

He is in a very strong bargaining position; the rumours are just going to escalate over the year but so will his value if he stays healthy. Good on him--he has handled himself with class over his entire tenure here and deserves the opportunity to play on a team that will utilize his full potential. The Jets can finally make a better case that they are doing so, but is it too little, too late?

Is he in the driver's seat? How many teams want a player who can't stay healthy? Vs if he had just signed at beginning of season team is willing to pay a bit more as they have less questions about his health.

Haven't read anything in this thread but Ehlers is my Fav but I don't care You don't lose a player like that for nothing, trade at deadline if we can't keep him. Period.

Peaked my attention listening to Bowness on HNIC talk about Ehlers past frustration with ice time, pp time and linemates. Will this season with Arniel change anything in that respect and keep him a Jet. I am on “Can’t lose him for nothing side” but that’s a tough one for Chevy.

He's career low in mins/gp but is on pp1. I can't see the Jets trading him in-season, and the Jets have signed pending UFA late in the year, so hoping for that. If he leaves for ufa it is what it is. It wouldn't be the Jets have had a player leave for ufa.

Chevy has never let a player as valuable as Ehlers walk out the door of free agency. I’m guessing there is a plan in place to sign him by a certain date or he will make a hockey trade. I think the option of a TDL futures only package unlikely and an own rental even less likely.

Yup, I also think that Chevy already knows if Nik wants to be here long term and if he does will get a deal done, if he doesn't then will look for the best deal possible before the deadline.

Agreed.

I'm not sure the Jets see Ehlers in their long term plans. They have always seemed to have a love/hate relationship with him for whatever reason.
