Scheif and Helle really set the tone about players choosing to be here and it not being about every single dollar and cent if they are recieving a fair number.

I'm pretty confident we can get Nik and Kyle on board with all the success they are having together and success the team is having this season. I figure Ehlers at that matching $8.5 (he was within a couple hundred k of Scheif in AAV years ago) and $9.750 for Connor (being a year later and higher cap) should be enough.
Why what do you think the players could get if they went after every last dollar? I don't think Schief is worth more than 8.5 also what is Ehlers worth if he wants max dollars?

Guess they would need to go to UFA for us to find out. I think the matching deals for such a round number implies a level of "we are in this together" and it's not just 100% business. That part is subjective.

Hopefully Ehlers and Connor follow that trend.

I get the impression that Ehlers accepts 16-17 minutes per night but would not turn down a top line role if it was available.

I can't see Ehlers getting an offer like that and saying "ehhhh that's too much for me, I don't want to play on a top line."
Where do you that impression from? Why don't you re-read what @Jet posted

I get what he Atomic Jets is saying.

"I never complained about not playing 20 mins a night, I'm fine with 16, it's when I get cut down from there that's not cool"

Doesn't mean he prefers 16, it means he's not complaining about it. That's how I read it anyway.

Those aren't his words. HIS EXACT WORDS are "I never, ever asked to play 20 minutes"

Try reading it exactly as as it's written. Exactly what he said. Instead of what you think he said

You're crazy if you think Ehlers would turn down top dollar to play top line minutes somewhere.
You're crazy if you think you know what person wants even though that person is on record as saying that's not what he wants, or has ever asked for lol

People's words and how we interpret them are subjective

the way i read that, it doesn't mean he doesn't want to play big minutes. It means he nnever complained or asked to be played big minutes. That's what he said to me. We are inferring two different things of what his words mean.

Ehlers is getting paid… isn’t he
Better worrying about having to pay him than him being on the shelf like a few years ago!

Something in and around those ranges. Hopefully this team wants to stay together and they all sign back on. No reason we can’t have another contention window with this group.

Yeah, he's likely not going to turn down tonnes of money and playing time, but destination probably matters. How much does he want to win? That's gonna be a factor.
The advantage the Jets have is they can offer him 8 years and no one else can say boo to him until the Free Agency period following the season. Give him a fair offer and the way the season is going I think he re-signs.

The reason you're inferring what he said they way that you are is cognitive dissonance. His words, as written, contradict what your narrative surrounding his past usage is

If you asked 100 neutral people who had no idea who Nik Ehlers is or the background of his usage here, they'd all disagree with you. You're projecting your opinion of what you think he should be saying onto what he actually said

Go through your last 50 posts and see how many times you may be guilty of what you are accusing others of in that exact same post. Tell me what you think.

We all think we are right and everyone else is wrong sometimes. You aren't one of a select few objective people, you just believe you are right just like me and almost everyone else here. A bunch of know-it-alls hanging out talking about things in much more detail than your average fan. It's all just our own interpretation of how we see things.

Have i interpreted a player's words in a way which doesn't reflect what they actually said?

I'm giving you an exact example of your cognitive dissonance. Feel free to go back through those 50 posts of mine and give me an exact equivalent example.

I'll wait

“I’ve never, ever said I wanted to play 20 minutes,” Ehlers said. “I’m fine with 16. It’s when it gets down to 11 and 12, that pisses me off. And I said that many times. It’s not a secret. When it gets lower, that’s when it’s frustrating because I can’t get into the games. I’ve played in this league long enough and played well enough to deserve more.
The article is interesting, and shows why getting players at the deadline should be carefully considered. I think in past years, some players have come in and just thrown off chemistry and timing. This isn't the only reason we've seen poor playoff performances lately, but I'm sure it's contributed.

Good to see this line continue to produce. At the moment, the only trade deadline acquisition that I think would be useful would be to improve our defense, if we could get a multi-year player only...

"The problem was that they weren’t doing anything in sync.

“We’d go on the forecheck, but it’d be only one guy going, and then the second guy would be too early or too late, and the third guy would be in an off position and (the opposition) would make one pass and they were out,” Ehlers said.

What made matters worse was that they’d get the puck back only to repeat the same process.

One guy in, another too early or too late, and the other left in no man’s land.

Just play the guy 17-19 min per night and all the parties will be happy. Extra shift here or there. 1-2 shifts per game make huge difference.

These 12-14 TOI's are very worrisome and bad... I know that you need to play Lowry line a lot. But using your best or second best winger only 12-14 min is maddening.
