Pre-Game Talk: Edmonton vs Vegas

Doing the Edge comparison between Edmonton. Sure looks like speed is a big swing Edmonton's way, but goals and shooting percentage better with Vegas.

Vegas seems to be good at getting a higher number of shot from inside the circle inside the lane to the net, especially on the left side. We'll need good forward support in the d-zone, particularly from the right wings.

Cassidy absolutely loves slot shots. When he was hired in Boston, the first thing he did was to change Boston from a high volume shot team to higher quality shot team.

Still weird to me and deeply disturbing that the NHL would put out a tweet (media release of any kind really) promoting a playoff series between two of its teams and include the gambling odds on it.

And then manipulate the game through game management officiating so as to impact the outcome. 🤨

And a Vegas player actually saying in an interview that they know we will chase so they were intentionally doing flybys around our net to create wide open ice.

So sad
That was Marchessault saying that, which I respect a lot. He said the truth. That man to man D is great in regular season but not when things get intense and scouting the other teams goes deep into detail.

Gonna beat Vegas then Colorado then Florida avenging the last three playoff exits to each of the three cup winners

Going to be important to implement and maintain our defensive structure, really need to key in on our net front/slot defending and the support from the fwds, especially the C absolutely has to be there. Can’t give them anything easy and can’t get caught cheating for offense. Vegas is excellent at in zone defending which tends to push teams to take more chances trying to generate off the rush, vgk is very good at capitalizing on teams abandoning defensive positioning to chase rushing scoring chances, and the Oilers can be brutal for that at times so definitely that’s something Vegas will look to exploit and the Oilers need to be aware.

One thing I like though is that the Kings very much deployed their blue line in the same way Vegas did, leaning on their big, hard ice defenders and the Oilers were still up in Kuempers face, fwds were at the net meeting pucks there, they were driving the net hard and stopping. Really liked how we started getting quick pucks through and bodies to the net in the first round, that’s going to have to continue.

He also said he was scared of the Oilers PP- that the team had no idea what to do. He continued on and said that it seemed like a for sure goal when Vegas took a penalty. I believe he was the one who said the Oilers were their hardest out that year

I do kinda worry about the tilt factor for Edmonton. It almost cost them in their first rematch against LA, too. They were out for blood the refs called them for everything, and we know how the refs treat Vegas so it'd be even worse this time.
Yeah, they'd probably ban Draisaitl from the league if he did what Cheaterangelo did.

Besides, it should be Nurse doing the chopping. He could use a game or two of rest to reset things.

Welcome to your gambling scripted NHL series coming to you from Vegas.

If this was 1979 and somebody told you this was going to be going on you would have just found different entertainment, a different hobby. Now I know the sanctity has been sold, but by now we're addicted to the stuff.

Myself without Drai and McD I probably would have turned this off by now. They keep me pulled in.

Oilers vs Vegas but mostly Oilers vs the dirty betting nhl reffing. They'll need to be better than best to beat the "odds"
