I found the radio coverage contours for 630 and 880 for a comparison of the two.

Very interesting.
Thanks for posting that. It looks like (based on these screenshots) that 880 has similar coverage during the day and better coverage at night.

The ONLY way that is possible is if they increased the output of the exisiting towers for 880 or increased the total amount of the broadcast towers.

All that being said...how come when I dirve into Southern Alberta during the day I can pick up 630 but I cant get 880?

Again out of my knowledge, but why would you want better reception at night? Aren't both those stations historically busier during the day and then at night for hockey/football?

I like Rob Brown, but there are times that his opinions are astoundingly stupid, and I've noticed he's on a roll so far to start the season.

- Good start doesn't matter because the Oilers will make the playoffs anyways

- Holloway would have been buried on the 4th line behind Janmark the whole year

- Team toughness doesn't matter at all for the Oilers because McDavid and Draisaitl lead the charge physically

- Lavoie shouldn't get any PK time in the AHL to round out his game just because

I'm probably missing a few. Rishaug has been beside himself opposing these points. With the Holloway/Janmark one all he could do is chuckle it was so dumb.

Does he realize that Holloway was playing more even strength than Janmark in the playoffs last year? As well Knobs had planned on getting Holloway onto the PK in training camp/preseason.

Team toughness is whatever at this point, I'd like more for sure but a healthy Kane will inject a lot to the team.

If Lavoie isn't getting PK time then don't pick him up off of waivers. Maybe he doesn't end up PKing in the NHL, but it'll help his overall game starting to think about defense more. Plus ideally the guy is PKing in the NHL if capable, because otherwise he is going to be tough to get minutes

The Janmark comment was crazy for the reasons you said. It was so dumb that it was almost as if he was trolling.

The only reason Holloway would've been stuck behind Janmark is if Holloway did it to himself.

Quite the take and I agree about the trolling

I couldnt agree more.
I like Rob Brown as well but he does, from time to time, have some astoundingly bad takes.

Okay...was in Southern Alberta yesterday.
It was a good test because I had an opportunity to listen to the pre game show.
Picked up 630 just fine. They were running a repeated message to tune into 880. So I tuned to 880 and got a garbled signal. Unlistenable.
That didnt change much until I got closer to Red Deer.
So based on my personal experience those coverage maps are woefully inaccruate.
As I surmised the 880 signal doesnt compare, in terms of coverage, to the 630 signal.

I would be interested to hear from others who are out there driving the Province.

Noticed yesterday evening that 880 was not coming in very clear on the radio in my home in Sherwood Park. Fuzzy enough that I'll likely have to stream it and Bluetooth it from my phone to the radio on nights I want to hear the game. Not the end of the world, but a nuisance nonetheless. The signal is half decent in the daytime but still not great. Haven't tried moving the radio yet, but every other station I listen to comes in fine (mainly CHED and CISN, which are admittedly strong signals).

Its a fair criticism...what is the identity of this team?
They arent physical.
They arent defensive.
They arent fast.
They arent young.
Assuming they get their shit together...what the hell are they?

An old team with offence?
What do they fall back on when they arent scoring?

Same identity as every other year. Slow out of the gate after saying the right shit.

I didn’t like how they treated preseason, but at same time I really question how well most the team trained this summer. Multiple weddings for some, European vacations and rehab if injuries.

The shortened off season definitely plays a role.

While Rishaug & the guys continue to do the best Oilers/NHL podcast in town, sometimes there's quite a delay on game nights as Ryan makes his way home to Sherwood Park, Brown finishes up on CHED before heading to St. Albert and Struddy does whatever he does. There are now 3 other Oilers postgame shows that come on immediately after the game: The 880 CHED (so weird) postgame show & Overtime Openline with Bryn Griffiths & Brownie, The Oil Stream Postgame on EST with Tom Gazzola, Hernan Salas & Matt Kassian and Sports 1440's new postgame show with Andrew Walker & Landon Ferraro. I generally catch Gazzola & Company before moving on to Got Yer Back (if they're doing a same night postgame pod).

Sounds interesting.
I really like the GYB podcast but you're right...there can be a bit of a delay after the game.

Feel free to post whatever podcast you think is worthwhile listening to.
