With no disrespect to the Kings intended, I'm just not worried about losing this series. I know first round upsets happen all the time, but if the Kings win, I consider it a monumental upset. If the Kings win more than one game, I will be quite surprised.

The Oiler's bottom 6 depth will be a difference. EVERY player in the bottom 6 had 10+ goals this year (none on the PP).

Oilers are no longer a 2 line team.
Plus our D is miles better this year compared to last. It's not just Ekholm. Bouchard is a year older and better. Desharnais is a fantastic depth role player. Nurse and Kulak look better with less responsibility

As someone who has criticized the Oilers depth, I find that very surprising. I didn't know that.

Admittedly, I saw far more of the Oilers early in the season, but only some highlights down the stretch. But when I saw them the depth just sort of weathered the storm and hurried off the ice. It was like they all just assumed McDrai would win it for them. Maybe they have been better lately. But I think that kind of attitude could return in a pressure situation.

This is the first time in many years that the oilers depth was above 500 with McDavid and draisaitl off the ice

Well I hope, for their sake, that it's a trend that continues. As I said, I've been critical of them. But I am not a hater. I'd really like to see McDavid lift a cup. I just can't trust that team based on track record.

Kings in 7. One of the few upsets in round one.

Oilers are just not a complete enough team, and they rely too heavily on the PP. The playoff refs won't give out as many PP opportunities, and a vet team like LA knows how to limit their hooks and holds when it counts.
It is shocking to me when I see people write this.

If the Oilers rely too much on the PP, why are they the 4th best ES goal scoring team in the NHL? 5 behind NJ and 7 behind BOS?

People see they broke a PP record and just assume this lol. They also had 18 Sh goals this year.

This should be a good series. It seems there is some bad blood between these teams. I think Oilers in 6. Nurse and Draisaitl healthy, Ekholm playing the best hockey of any oilers defenseman since Pronger, but LA is a really solid team. Look forward to watching it.

Can you really pick any other than the Oilers?.
Other than d and g issues, which latter they do not have with Skinner, McDavid will score and assist enough
goals to counter what ever goals LA scores.

There is getting goalied thing thou; Korpisalo is a strong, really good goalie,

Well, after they got Ekholm, there has not been many "d issues". They tightened up. Too many people just parrot stuff like this and "no 3 on 3" even though EDM had 45 reg wins lol and are a top 5 ES scoring team.

Oilers last 6 games - 6 goals allowed

Oilers last 12 games - 24 goals allowed (had some high scoring games both ways). So 2 GA/G lately.

Better goaltending has helped lately too. Oilers are smack dab in the middle of the league in GA/G. Right with the Kings,. That is the entire year.

Last 40/41 games, they are just better everywhere. Even their crappy PK has been playing top half of the league lately.

To my surprise, LA has had the 2nd best PP% in the league since Jan 1st

2 line team ? They were a 2 player team for the longest time.

Should be a really good series.

Oilers just need to keep doing what they’ve been doing lately against the kings and they should be able to take care of business.
Don’t get overly aggressive chasing scoring chances and open yourself up defensively. Just be patient and play with structure and trust that your skill and depth will eventually overpower theirs and your best players will capitalize more often than theirs.

Should be a fun series!

Head says Oilers fairly easily - 5 or 6 games max. This is a different Oilers team than years past.

That said - after last year the Kings certainly aren’t going to be ‘afraid’ of the Oilers and in the Danault line they have one of the best matchup lines defensively in the league. Doughty is back this year and Korpisalo, though erratic, can be a beast if he’s on it.

I do think the Kings are going to make this a real live wire series. I think they are gonna play with an extra chip on their should. And they have the moxy to be a thorn in every game.

My gut says Oilers in 7 and a potentially that “OMG we barely scraped past the first round but the toughness of that matchup steeled us for the rest of the haul” if they go on to win the Cup.

This is going to be an easy series for LA. Terrible matchup for the Oilers. 5 or 6 games.

Edmonton gets exposed as the pretenders they are. Woodcroft gets fired in the offseason, and they bring in a real coach to play real NHL hockey. Not this mickey mouse nonsense they are doing now.

Meh. The Kings really rely on their depth, and exploiting 3rd line matchups with Fiala and Vilardi. If those players are too injured to contribute, it'll be a short, low scoring series in Edmonton's favor.

If recent regular season games are any indication, it's Edmonton's defense and goaltending that have been the big difference maker. The Kings have scored one goal in the past six periods against the Oilers.

Make no mistake, most Kings fans see how good Edmonton has been since the deadline. They're the best team in hockey right now.

If the Kings can ice a complete, healthy lineup, it'll at least be a fun series.
