Eskimos have no excuses to lose this game and if they do... Well, that's really unfortunate. A team that hasn't been to the Grey Cup in ten years can't take anything for granted.

This is pretty cruel to say but I think if they don't win the Grey Cup that takes a lot away from the season they had. They simply must cash this in.

Stamps erosion.

Not only did we beat the Stamps but also felt is that the STamps mini run is over. I look for them to be getting worse, an ordinary club now and with Hufnagel gone I wonder how far back that team ends up. I can see them being the Lions next year. A team that makes the playoffs but isn't really close. Cornish could be done. Mitchell, as I've stated vastly overrated. Rogers did enough to maybe get an NFL look see. I see a D that was uncovered as well and guys like Simpson (I really respect) that looked very ordinary.

Stamps dominance is done. Over. Not sure what the rebuild will look like either. Unlike in the past we are not seeing automatic next one QB's come into the fold, the cupboard isn't stocked like usual in Calgary, and lol that Drew Tate is reduced to carryng clipboard, holding on kicks, and getting major penalties for chirping the officials. What a ****ing assclown.

Which leads me to my next point that I feel that the Stamps have always had a lot of aholes (Cornish and several others) but that Hufnagel has been a specific personality that has been able to rein that **** in. Frankly I don't think Dickenson gets the same respect on the sideline there. The players seem to ignore him a lot. lol at Mitchell not even noticing Dickenson for 20 secs waving his arm telling him the clock is moving, get the damn ball in play.

Stamps completely unravelled in this game. I just think its a little fun to focus on that some more..;)

Without D gifts and clownshow officiating this one was a 59-15 curb stomping. Stamps won't recover from this. I see something like a 10-8 Stamps club next year. No dominance. I only give them that because of weak clubs like the Bombers and Riders.

Heres an interesting question though. How many Stamps do you think really felt like they were going to win Saturday. I kind of felt the wind had been knocked out of their sales before the game even started and due to the esks last 2 Victories in BOA. Stamps were putting up a brave face, and maybe Rogers did, Messam did, but I saw few Calgary Defenders that played like they would win. I didn't see that confidence one normally sees in either STubler, or a Stamps D. But then I noted during the season how much more worried stubler looked this year when facing this esks team.

Its like Jones said. We make the plays we know we can make that we have practiced and we win the game. Jones is a believer that you win a game before the opening kickoff in how you practice and prepare for that game and with what personnel you have. Bowman related that story on how Jones taught him that and how much its done for him as a football player. Bowman said he used to feel that what happens in the 60mins is what really matters. That he's learned that properly practicing drills and getting routes perfect results in success before the games even start. Bowman says that's made all the difference and that he has learned as much from Jones as anybody he has played for.

I agree. The Esks on the field felt this game was won before it started. Calgary did not have that same confidence. They had a lot of doubt.

just hope the esks can keep their heads on straight. I have no fear of Reilly getting overconfident, but I can't say the same for a lot of other eskimos. especially on defense.
the only team that can beat Edmonton is Edmonton.

Given their let-down late in Sunday's game, I'm far less concerned with that happening now. They almost let Calgary back into the game and I think they learned a big lesson from that.

They got very lucky on Sunday...if that hands to the face penalty wasnt called the Stamps would have been down 1 TD.
All because they stopped playing.

Here's hoping that was a lesson learned.

This is really cool for some of us die hard CFL and Eskie fans in particular, to see all the posts in between games for once. Mind you, it's the week before GC and right after an important stomping in the Western Final against our hated rivals, but still. Usually, this thread is like a morgue in between tilts. Keep it going!

I can't see Jones letting them off the hook for that, so in retrospect, that actually might have been a good thing to happen before it totally bites them in the rear at the most inopportune time (this Sunday). Jones was likely still barking at them on the plane ride to Winnipeg.:D

As much as I would love and relish your prediction for the Stamps sudden demise next year, I can't really see it happening. More of a wish than reality. Besides, they could have the great Jerome Messam carrying them on his back.;) Had to put that in, sorry. They still have a very solid team, and it's hard to imagine them having the # of injuries next year that they had this year, especially on the O-line. They will continue to be a handful, but I think we're over the hump now as to how to beat them.

lol at the comment by a Calgary resident that the esks were "lucky" to win.

how predictable. :shakehead

No agenda there.

The Stamps were the beneficiary of two TD's and 3 turnovers being called back. They were the beneficiary of a ridiculous "forced out" call.

The Esks were the completely dominant team that but the officials seemed interested in trying to keep the game close.

Stamps were also obviously offside on the Rogers TD.

Would be very cool to see John Henry White on the sidelines with his team mates to soak in the experience and enjoy the day, even while in a tracksuit. Would have loved to see him in this game. Must be killing him inside.

I tend to agree.

I have to say that Jones has really grown as a coach this season. His game management is much better and he definitely has buy in form his players.
The Eslks are the better team in virtually every aspect...its the mental preparedness that concerns me so hopefully Jones is indeed barking about that near collapse. :D

In all honesty I will be very surprised if the Esks lose on Sunday.

As crappy as the D was, letting Calgary off the hook in the last 10 minutes, they also scored a couple TD's which the officials took away from us, got another huge INT, kept Calgary's run game under control, and physically manhandled some guys.

Fro me, it would be shocked, disappointed and saddened. I think if they can solve some 3 week rust, they should be able to figure out a 10 minute lapse in concentration. But the game is played on the field, not the stats room, so until we get it done, it's nail bitin' time. I am going to try to relax and really enjoy it though.

Not at all surprised that a hypersensitive poster willfully took my comments out of context.

Apparently he missed that part where I said that the Esks stopped playing and almost let the game slip away. I have no idea how that could be contested.

A sample of the predictions I've picked up from Stampeder fan boards and friends who are Stamps fans. These are actual things I've read and heard:

- The Esks played essentially a split Calgary squad due to injuries :shakehead
- We got the breaks from the officials :shakehead
- When healthy, Calgary is clearly better and will win the west handily next season :shakehead
- The Esks has a great season but will not and cannot be as good next season :shakehead
- Look for the Lions and Bombers to be better next season so the Esks will have more trouble; notice no mention of the Riders :shakehead
- Sherritt is a dirty player :shakehead: and needs to be punished for that head hit on Messam (maybe agree)

Winners move on, losers complain and look for excuses. Wonder how the WF last year might have played out had we had a healthy Reilly at the controls? As for Sheritt, sure, whatever, give him a CFL type of fine. 100 bucks.

Who gives a ****? Nik Lewis pulled lots of **** on the Eskimos when he was a Stampeder. So cry me a flipping river lol.

I don't get this 3 man rush prevent crap. It seems like whenever a team does it, the other team can move the ball down field easily. The Esks defense was dominating until they switched to this prevent mode

I don't think the Sherritt hit was intentional but it still should have been called imo because it was helmet to helmet. However, the Esks were screwed over time and time again by the refs so they deserved a break of some sort

Actually when they employ this and bring a stunt rush and disguising whether people rush or drop off its very effective because its very unknown what the D will do and its versatile. The main risk with this kind of package is you could be susceptible to the run. This kind of D set should not be susceptible to the pass. Nor is it prevent, its an aggressive design.

The problem is when the DB's line up 15-20yds back wanting to be too lazy to run close coverage and too conservative. With the speed we have back there we shouldn't be needing to back off that far which leaves us very susceptible to short gainers.

Jones lost it on the defenders 3 times in the game for playing back too passive. That wasn't a scheme, that was players doing that.

That makes me think back to the 1981 Grey Cup game (yes, I am old enough to have watched it) as the 14-1-1 Eskimos played the 5-11 Ottawa Roughriders for the cup. At halftime, Ottawa led 20-1 and the country was in shock. The Eskimos pulled off a big second-half comeback to win 26-23.

The Grey Cup was a much bigger deal back then than it is today - in the early 80s, if you didn't have cable you could watch the Grey Cup on CBC or CTV - that was the only show in town. I enjoyed the stature of the CFL in this country in the 70s and early 80s, the NFL took the back seat. Today, the kids gravitate to the shiny box and shun our national league. It is sad but, that is reality I guess.

and the only hockey was hockey night in Canada. the old days could suck, too.

look at eskimo home games, which were blacked out. more people went to the games because that was the only choice they had if they wanted to see the game.
no way the esks would have gotten 45,000 a game if they were on local tv every week.

iTV, man. Loved those Wednesday night games.

I actually think that the Esks jacking the prices of season tickets has led to far lower attendance numbers. A lot of people used to spend their $200 for a couple bleeders as their way of supporting the team. When they doubled/tripled prices amidst bad football, people walked. Just my view.
