Very VERY casual Eskimos fan. I only watched part of the 4th quarter against the Stamps and that was the most CFL I've seen all season.

That being said, go Eskimos. Rep our city proudly

Anyone worried about Burris shredding our pass defense? Seems like we haven't faced Ottawa in years. Wondering if they have improved quite a bit since, and whether they have some tricks up their sleeve for the Grey Cup. I'm hoping our coaches prep the corners to be hands off, because pass interference is the easiest way for the powers that be to give a team the Cup.

Not that worried about an air show, Reilly and CO will shred the redblacks just as badly should it come to that.

Hopefully Willis runs over Burris on his first snap :D

The officials want to "give" someone (Ottawa) the cup. LOL.

I'm saying Esks by either 26-23 or 32-20.

On paper, this should not be close. Unfortunately, that won't count squat once the opening whistle blows. One game shot for all the marbles. A key person gets hurt or has a crappy offday and that can change everything.

We need to get into Burris' face early and often. He has shown a propensity in the past to get rattled and do some dumb things.

That makes me think back to the 1981 Grey Cup game (yes, I am old enough to have watched it) as the 14-1-1 Eskimos played the 5-11 Ottawa Roughriders for the cup. At halftime, Ottawa led 20-1 and the country was in shock. The Eskimos pulled off a big second-half comeback to win 26-23.

The Grey Cup was a much bigger deal back then than it is today - in the early 80s, if you didn't have cable you could watch the Grey Cup on CBC or CTV - that was the only show in town. I enjoyed the stature of the CFL in this country in the 70s and early 80s, the NFL took the back seat. Today, the kids gravitate to the shiny box and shun our national league. It is sad but, that is reality I guess.

Back in those days the Grey Cup was shown on both CBC and CTV at the same time. They would share the broadcast with the announcers of one network working the first half and then the announcers of the other network working the second half. Pre game show also went all day long too. CFL was a huge deal in the country back then.

and the only hockey was hockey night in Canada. the old days could suck, too.

look at eskimo home games, which were blacked out. more people went to the games because that was the only choice they had if they wanted to see the game.
no way the esks would have gotten 45,000 a game if they were on local tv every week.

Yup, what I've been saying all along. Too many choices now and opportunities to watch elsewhere. The game itself isn't a big enough event to have a huge whack of people go to it, unlike the NFL.

Don Chevrier, John Wells and Don Whitman. Solid announcers, smooth as silk. Great colour guys like Frank Rigney. Pat Marsden , I always wanted to punch in the noggin anytime he came on. Same with Rod Black today.

Some good names there, Marsden was such an eastern and argo homer back then, fortuneatly that time period the Esks were killing all the eastern teams.

Whitmans biggest attribute? He knew when to shut up and let the play say it all. Here's an example:

(I have no clue how to get youtubes to work on here these days)

Keep in mind we beat Ottawa twice with Nichols as our QB...

According to some Nichols was going to make us regret trading him

I should be watching this weekend, but it sure doesn't have the same feel as years back. I remember going to a grey cup party every year. Now doesn't seem like anyone really cares that much.

Doesn't help that the NFL has NE and DEN, although Manning being out makes the game a bit less of a draw.

The CFL just lacks a lot of appeal since there's little to no star power.

Well, Esks were shut out of the major CFL awards today.

lol.

This team is literally the Rodney Dangerfield of 14-4 teams.

We did take the rookie-of-the-year award - second in a row. Kinda nice but I don't care much about individual awards and I don't really think the players care much either.

Individual awards are a little nice but let Burris have MOP. We'll take the one award Sunday that really matters.

Jamieson and Lowetide were talking and Jamieson had some good points about how the CFL needs to appeal to new Canadians. A lot of foreigners when they come do try embrace the culture, so would having a CFL punjabi be the worse idea?

The other thing and as a NFL fan I will agree. Yesterday's games from what I saw were garbage. Unless you were a fan of a team that won, a tony romo hater or a fantasy football fan.

If the CFL can somehow channel some sort of the NFL experience with regards to fantasty sports that would go a long way.

Nice thought, but most newcomers don't embrace stuff like football. More likely to support soccer or cricket or a myriad of other sports out there.
