I have no idea why it took so long for the officials to make a ruling on the Messam fumble. It was clear as day the ball was out. Total mess created by incompetent on-field officials, leading to a situation where even Chris Cuthbert was left wondering what on Earth they were doing.

Hopefully this is the last we see of this Kim Murphy (or whatever his name is) referee. The guy is always screwing up.

Sad thing is he might be one of the better officials in this league.

I mean, Andre Proulx is one of the most tenured refs in the CFL. That right there tells you all you need to know.

Another gongshow. Looks like the refs really put on their playoff game faces wanting as usual to be integral to the final result.

man, could you imagine if this game was ACTUALLY close and those calls impacted the result?

There would literally be riots today at Commonwealth. I thought people there in the stadium were going to lose it after having two TD's called back in a minute.

Never seen anything like that. I think 4 Calgary fumbles today were ruled down on contact. Two of them were.

The Esks also get a interception taken back on a mystery PI call where they didn't even call the number.

The "forced out" was hilarious though. The guy was 3yds out on the play. :shakehead. Even without the contact he's out. For the refs to be so magnanimous on the call forshadowed what agenda there would be on the day.

It was as if CFL just couldn't see the defending Grey Cup champs taken apart and embarrassed. Even though they were. The scoreline today should have been 60-19.

don't forget ending the 3rd quarter, even though there was a penalty on the last play.... one of the worst reffing examples i've ever seen in any sport... the CFL should issue a public apology, just a travesty

That may have been after the play. The play ends as soon as the ball breaks the plane of the end zone, so technically that is when the 3rd quarter ended since there was zero on the clock.

I really thought Sherritt had a strong game today. He physically dominated Messam, which I didn't see happening due to the size mismatch.

Messam was on the receiving end of several vicious hits, and was eventually knocked senseless. This finally shut him up, only to have Cornish take to twitter and keep up the trash talk. Pretty classless display, and I suggest the league should step in and fine the Stampeders. Play the game on the field, not on twitter.

Not only did we beat the Stampeders, we beat them up. Knocked there kick-returner out of the game as well.

I love it. :handclap:

It'll be nice to go to work tomorrow and not see those abominable signs and flags everywhere.

Right?

I've seen so many Stamps logos, flags and hats over the past couple of weeks, I love how they just vanish once their team sucks. Typical Calgary fair weather fans.

It honestly scares me to think about that. The crowd would have gone ballistic.

Officiating was garbage, but as an Oiler fan, I guess I should be used to that.

Love beating Calgary. They've had the Eskimos number for a loooong time until a couple months ago.

Can't believe all the empty seats today. Can't even fill the place up on a gorgeous November Sunday. Nonetheless, still a loud crowd.

Onto the Grey Cup! Feels like forever since they were there.

huh?

This was one of the top attendance figures at 34,500 of the entire CFL season for any location.

It was the top CFL attendance anywhere since September 12.

Other than Grey Cups it was the top playoff attendance in any game as long as I can remember in the CFL.

It was 10K MORE than the other CFL playoff games attracted this year.

What did you expect? Yeah the weather was decent today, but its Alberta weather can change at anytime and get colder and that can drive the fans away. 35K or whatever it looked like today looked a lot better than the 20+K that showed up to last years game.

If Bodog had a line of Over Under 45K for the attendance today. I would easily have taken the under and ran.

It sucks but cant do much about it.

Since I've harped on McAdoo the entire year, it's only fair that I give him credit for what was a fantastic gameplan. He outclassed Stubler the entire game with his playcalling.

Also, Bowman and Walker are the most lethal Esks receiving duo in quite some time. Give Bowman/Walker/Stafford another year together and they could put up a year similar to prime Tucker/Vaughn/Hervey. We could be looking at three 1000 yard receivers next year.

The issue was when the whistle blew. If there was no whistle the play would have resulted in a TD. But once the whistle was blown it creates some confusion. They actually got the review correct. But of course the whole thing is due to the blown call in the first place so it's not like there is not evidence of incompetence.

thats the thing that bugs me... CFL-apologists will say "the review got the call correct, who cares if it took 10 minutes"... the issue is that if they would have gotten the correct call in live play, we would have had a defensive TD, and not had to rely on a perfect throw by reilly right after.... what if we don't score that offensive TD? then the game is a 1 TD game, instead of 2

pathetic, pathetic, pathetic referring in that game, one of the worst CFL games i've ever seen in that regard (and that is certainly saying something, considering how bad the reffing is week in and week out)

Yeah, Under the Hervey era I've defended this teams moves including some very controversial moves.
But Mike Reilly is the quintessential sporting hero. Easy to get behind that for me and the team. Nice to see Jones smile and have some fun out there in the 3rd quarter. To bad the D again wiped the smile off his face with very substandard play. Not that I felt the game was ever in doubt. Eskimos were the better club all over the field.
This continues to be a great team and org and worthy of the fans support.

BS. You're older like me. We remember when they used to get 50K and around 60K. Those were the days. :yo:

Oh of course, but I was referring to more recent memory. Plus in playoffs its often been the case that attendance was down, other than the Grey Cups.

And on Saturday in the Vanier Cup our 'master architect' Danny Maciocia will be coaching to defend his championship Montreal team.

A query though... Should they lose to Ottawa, does that tarnish the season?

It depends on whether you are just happy to be there or not? When the oilers lost in 7 in the Stanley cup to Carolina did that tarnish that season?
