Hyman will bring a lot to our top 6.

Excited to see what he brings to McDavids line as McDavid plays well with players that play like Hyman.

Not sure how it’ll age in the back half of the deal but he immediately helps us.

I’d be ok with Hyman at 5.5M but for 2-3 years, not 7! He’s miles better than Blake Coleman but that contract is gonna be a major burden in 3 years.

'm surprised some human beings are waiting to see what kind of destruction will mcdavid bring with the likes such is hyman. Jesse Puljujarvi's game does not be so much different than hyman's sire. They both are pretty awful on the PP. Hyman scores some more than puljujarvi yes, but he is not a scorer by any means. Mcdavid's numbers will only go up by a lil percentage sire. Not by much. But with puljujarvi, hyman and foegele all with the oil, that team will be more difficult to play AGAINST for surely. That' I can assure you sire.

If they were gonna do this contract why not give it to Coleman? He's a better player with less wear and tear and a MUCH better fit for what they need. Would probably outplay it for the first few years. I thought Coleman wasn't gonna sign in Canada but apparently he's fine with Alberta. A couple mil more and the chance to play with McDavid should have done it.

Oilers fans, You will love Zach I promise you.

Does the contract suck? Ya, It likely will in 3-4 years time. But Zach going to be massive for you guys in that first 3 years. When Conner and Leon will be in their absolute peak performance. It would not shock me to see Zach put up stupid good numbers in those first 3 years.

For all the Lucic, Belesky, Backes, Clarkson, and Okposo deals that are being referenced, he could also be your guys Kunitz. A guy who was traded to PIT when he was the same age as Zach, and was a huge reason they won 3 cups. Not to mention represented Canada in the Olympics. Yes there are some bad contractual comparisons, but you are getting 1 heck of a player.

I'll say this by the eye test I think Hyman is a better player than Nuge and everyone praised that deal. I think the Hyman deal is a good one for Edmonton, and is right in line with what the market is asking given what Danault just received.

So instead of getting something of value for a player who was leaving anyway, Dubas opted to let him walk for nothing?

Ok. :dunno:
i mean, was he supposed to trade him before they went into the playoffs?

i get that everyone is crazy about asset managment but cmon. also wasnt he injured?

I think he just means sign-and-trade prior so that the Oilers could get the 8th year and the Leafs a fifth round pick.

But a fifth round pick might not be worth it to the Leafs to help a team to reduce the cap by 0.5M (unless you're Tampa and then the rest of the league will do it for free apparently :p).

why the hell do organizations give nmc to grinders. makes no sense at all. only superstar or all stars should be allowed to get them. i think thats how it works in the nba. your already overpaying and giving him 8 years why the hell would you add a nmc to it. say “we will give u a nmc but on a 3-4 deal.”

Tbh he worked will with Matthews sometimes. Other leafs were pulling their hair out. His best fit this past year was on the 3rd line. He had good chemistry with Matthews, he’s not a 5.5 player. Let’s see if he can gain chemistry with McDavid

Term is ugly but if Oilers want to have any success they need to give McDavid/Drai some complementary players. Hyman is proven with Matthews/Marner. They need to succeed in next 4-5 years, Hyman should be good for those years.
