I really wanted him pre covid. Good speed but this feels about 5 years late. I don't mind the pickup but we seem to love our name forwards and our no name D.

Brown, Hyman, Kapanen, Dermott.

They're getting the band back together.

don’t understand why these guys aren’t more often claimed. Teams can try them and if they don’t work out just put them back on waivers. Their cap hits are totally put into the minors. These are cannot lose claims. Smart play by the Oilers on this on.

Who are "these guys"?

Who are "these guys"?
Experienced proven guys, who have cap hits that can be 100% buried in the minors if it doesn’t work out. It’s a can’t lose.
What, exactly, is the negative here for the Oilers?

Kaapo Kähkönen was claimed just like that. Played only one game for Avs before he was back on waivers.

I don't hate it from an Oilers perspective. He's a guy who once upon a time, used to be able to generate a lot of his own offense at even strength from bottom-6 minutes. They could use something like that.

Whether he's still that player, or something else is going on with him...i guess we'll see. Worst case, he's dirt cheap and you can always just waive him again.

Temporary stop gap until Arvidsson returns to the line up.

He’ll be back on waivers in 2 weeks. Unless he suddenly decides he’s not a plug anymore.

Kasperi Kapanen on waivers oh how the mighty has fallen. Perhaps he can Huselius his career from here on the Albertan prairie.

Agreed. The Oilers seem to buy into the hype and can't wait to get their hands on one. The Sens seem to do is as well.

In this case Kapanen is a short term stop gap measure as Ardvisson and now Hyman are banged up. I think Connor Brown is hurting as well. So the Oilers need some cheap NHL level replacement players. What the heck ,maybe Kapanen can play 14 games or so before he performs his usual disappearing act.

Haha woooow... ok.

From driving drunk, almost pissing your career away for shits and giggles to McDavids wing. This is how you fail upwards folks
Honestly he got lucky. Edmonton has injuries in the forward group and so does Bakersfield. So taking a flyer on a guy makes sense. Since for some reason management won’t call someone up from Bakersfield

They felt happy, hard-working Puljujärvi annoying. For sure they will love Kapanen
The difference in cap hit is why

Essentially because there is a reason they are on waivers (not good enough for a regular NHL shift) and/or most organizations already have guys similar to what's on the waiver wire they could call up.

I can’t believe the Blues gave away Kapanen for free. The Oilers steal a 40 g scorer for free! The offer sheet vengeance has begun, I would trade Boberg and Halloway in a hot minute for the Kap. What an absolute failure of Armstrong roster management, bring on Steen. Someone needs to hold him accountable. The Oil won this battle hands down, and they don’t need to poach anymore of our superstars. I’m so glad Jake from Statefarm has his contract signed because offersheeting him would be taking the Blues to the woodshed. This is such a kick in the ***, well done Edmonton, the Kap for Boberg and Halloway is a drubbing and the Blues should be embarrassed.

*These opinions are not endorsed by any Blues fan, and Bowman is an idiot for “sticking” it to the Blues. The Kap is hot garbage, he’ll look decent for 15 games, then will regress to Rodriguez from the Might Ducks 2.
