Strome had 4 5v5 goals against his whole season in Edmonton, 18 games. Spooner already at 4... 2 games in.Feel kind of bad for Spoondoggy right now. Dude has already been a part of 2 brutal losses in Edmonton. First game is a rough Battle of Alberta. First game is a particularly violent Battle of Alberta.
I’ll never really understand why Gorton gave Spooner two years. Didnt make sense then. Doesn’t make sense now.
You could say the same about Namestnikov.
I think a 2 year deal was good for us and them for various reasons.
Well, going into the season Spooner seemed like the better player. It really goes to show how important the system is...for some players.Namestnikov is a more complete and better player than Spooner.

What I would say about Strome is that he's an NHL bottom 6 player. How has Strome looked? How does he rank defensively amongst your forwards?
I've always hated Spooner's style of play and, as expected, he has been horrible for the Oilers.
I expected to be disappointed with Strome when the trade initially happened but Spooner simply wasn't doing well here either so it was sort of a wash.
Since the trade I find myself looking more for the weaknesses in Strome's game and have been pleasantly surprised that he is far more well rounded then I initially though. He's been good, he's playing good hockey and most importantly he is engaged. He makes his presence known. Maybe it's the system? But for NY #16 has been ok.
I feel like when I watched him in the past he wasn't a factor. I don't get that feeling now. It's still early yet.
Strome has been more noticeable in the few games here than Spooner was in the first 20. Spooner just really didn't fit here
