I mean, it's a cheap-ish deal, so you can't really argue with the value for a guy who's going to get 25 goals like clockwork.

But if the plan is to run him next to Draisaitl...it might not go well. Skinner is one of the worst defensive forwards in the league, and Drai can't drive two-way results on his own. I legitimately expect a Skinner-Draisaitl line to get outscored at 5v5.

You may be forgetting that Drai was a big + carrying around stalwarts like Dominik Kahun Kailer Yamamoto. Skinner was a +15 the year before this, only a -2 this year on a team with a lot of big minuses. I dunno, seems like Skinner may be better than a lot of the guys Drai has trucked around over his career.

Outside of the Krueger years Skinner has been on for more goals for than against at 5v5 with Sabres.

He gets more hate than he deserves.

I think he'll thrive in Edmonton

Think you can either through Nuge or Henrique with those two and it'll ease the pain.

I know it'll suck in regular season as Leon does tend to float a lot more in regular season, but come playoffs with one of those guys I mentioned I don't think it's much of an issue.

Even without Kane, there are 7 guys that can easily play top six for us. Maybe even 8 if Holloway takes a step. Lots of different options for the Knobs to figure out what works best.

Where is this coming from? I haven't really read this anywhere other than on these boards.

I mean he obviously had some injuries so it wouldn't be far fetched, but I am curious
Jeff Jackson mentioned a hip issue in his interview yesterday that the Oilers and Kane are still consulting specialists about. If it's likely to require surgery, the recovery time for hip surgery can be 6+ months.

Fans are assuming that the Oilers wouldn't put themselves over the cap on purpose, so Kane needing surgery seems likely,

He’ll be the 3rd best forward on his line in Edmonton which should take all the pressure off him.

It’s likely he plays with McDavid and Hyman so he will have more time and space than he’s ever had in his career
That’s all he really needs. It’s when he starts handling the puck/carrying it/decision making with it (unless it’s like a shot in tight). But he’ll be fine if he plays with McDavid lol

Skinner is a good pickup
Draws penalties with his mouth
Always looking for shot. Never hesitates to shoot
Picks pocket for back checking if he can get a shot
Always thinking offense and breaking out

Good guy for sandbagging

Then we can add Arvidsson to the line who's excellent 5-on-5.

How many goals do you think that line will score?

That's our second line.

Yup.

And Draisaitl's been stuck with Kane for the last couple years as well. If Skinner is the worst defensive forward in the league, Kane ain't far behind - and Skinner can at least still drive offense.

Do we think Holloway deserves some top six/top nine reps after a pretty impactful playoffs?
with Kane likely out longterm, Holloway is our most physical forward by a mile.

I think there's a chance we see something like this 5v5:

Skinner-McDavid-Hyman
Holloway-Draisaitl-Arvidsson
RNH-Henrique-Brown
Janmark-McLeod-Perry

This could end up being one of the better signings of the day. He could look real good on LD's wing.

His underlying numbers are excellent.
