Great gets? Murphy is decent but unless Dickinson has done a 180 from his time in Vancouver, he sucks.

I get further moves can be made to clear cap but they have seven million in cap with some very glaring holes in all three areas.

I try not to hate on the oilers, I actually like a lot of their fans and respect the hell out of #97 for taking less money and being loyal but man Stan should have been fired awhile ago.
Dickinson was in Vancouver 5 years ago, that year matters nothing positively or negatively anymore.

It’s a fair cap hit for a very good defensive defenseman who adds nothing offensively for next year. But the term again is brutal.

The guy is 33, he could fall of a cliff at any moment.

The average age of the Oilers top 6 dmen next playoffs will be 32.
And check the age of Florida's defense that people are already giving the cup to. They have 0 defenseman under 30 to start next season of their 6 guys under contract.

A 5 year deal for a 33 year old defenseman? It's like Ken Holland never left.

Darnell Nurse, get ready to learn yinzer buddy
With the cap going up this isn't a big deal really maybe the last year or two won't be great but some Dmen actually age really well and moreso than forwards.

desperation move. Oilers are gonna be a bubble team at best next season.
They were a bubble team last season because they started with arguably the worst bottom six in the league and not enough NHL defenseman. On paper at least they’re going to be better going into next season because they kept these two. They need two more of these two. Their deals AAV are both appropriate, they both just got an extra year, but Edmonton pays the play in Edmonton tax. They don’t have a choice other than don’t pay it and don’t get players or pay it and be at least a bit closer.

Term is irrelevant when going all in, look at florida and contracts for plugs like marchand

Great deal, edmonton easy favorites for cup next year
They'll have virtually the same team minus Roslovic and Nurse. Easy favorites? Bubble playoff team maybe.

Murphy and Dickinson certainly helped them with that deep run this year, why not run it back
:sarcasm:

Dickinson barely played after fracturing his ankle in game 1. His 2 goals in game 1 did help, but I don't think you have high expectations for any player playing through an ankle fracture.

Overall, I'd say McDavid's ankle fracture in game 2 probably had more to do with the Oilers not getting out of round one than anything Murphy or Dickinson did or didn't do.

If they move Nurse, they have 16 million in cap space with 18 players under contract and 2 RFA's.

Obviously that dollar amount will be less if they retain or have to take a bad contract back, but it's more than enough to add a couple of pieces.
