It was always unlikely Lucic was ever coming here anyway. His family absolutely is in love with LA, going from there to LA would be too big of a life style change for them even if Looch was cool with the hockey situation here.

So we need to get bigger/stronger. Kassian and Maroon are good steps in that direction.

We got a 5th for Larsen

So Larsen and Gernat for Maroon essentially.

That is grand larceny

A bunch of nothing for a player who could turn into a real asset for this team. Great move.

Surprised it's Gernat. Makes me think Anaheim only cared about the 4th and moving Gernat was just a way for us to get rid of a contract. Either way, great deal.

A 3rd liner at $2M is a very good price.

a *productive* 3rd liner, yes... not a guy like maroon

i will say on the positive side that he is having a career low in shooting % and his underlying stats are actually pretty decent... although it's hard to separate the "team effect" of those underlying stats, by playing on a good anaheim team

His stats are productive, in fact they are 2nd line stats other than this year. If he wasn't having a down year, no chance that he would have been gettable for a 4th.

Anaheim must have needed that cap space.

i heard one of their trades at the end didnt make the deadline... oops. so basically they might have traded a contributing asset for zip zilch notta.

I think they instantly regret, since some unknown deal didnt get completed in time. ouch. Playoffs need big bodies like this guy.

He has an extremely low ONSH% along with a handful of other notable Ducks.

I think he'll bounce back.

Honestly I do feel a little bad for Nikitin. He was a professional and took his demotion in stride, now he can't take part in the playoffs. Though this does free him to go play at home for the World Campionship.

i think he is happy being back up flying charter planes instead of busses.

honestly its a rough league to play in during your 30s etc. the grind. 3gs in 3 nights crap too.

Money trade, he recognized the excess in Anaheim after their moves and pounced to acquire someone who wasn’t ideal in their picture any longer for a price that cost us nothing. Maroon fills a hole worth so much more than even a decent prospect in our system, let alone Gernat...

Well theres your catch 22. If he had normal sh% and PDO hed have a hell of alot more than 15 points and no way hed be available for this

When he has higher shooting % he was putting up good 2nd line 5 x 5 numbers (only Hall was better here). Sure thats influenced by Getzlaf, but its still really impressive

Consider than Anaheim let Belesky walk because Maroon was younger and deemed to be better long term

I have no problem with Chia letting Gernat go, or the 4th. Maroon might fit in nicely with our players and system too.

Today seems like a good day for the Oil.

Anaheim has huge contracts to negotiate this summer, they need all the cap space they can get. Nice to see Chia being able to take advantage. Maroon will be useful for this last bit of the season even, extra guy that plays with some aggression and can actually play hockey in a bottom 6 role unlike a lot of our "at best a non-factor" guys.

He's one of the worst skaters in the league, but he plays the style we need. It'll be interesting to see how he fits in

Thats some serious hyperbole on the skating but you are right about the style.

Maroon is an average skater who can play in the top 6 on a very good team. He is a big body who plays a heavy game and he can also play on the PP.
He contributes offensively 5X5. His contract isnt even an issue.

There is no downside to this deal.

None.

Maroon makes this team harder to play.

Definitely ok with this. We get a coke machine, but Gernat had no future here and a 4th has little chance of becoming anything.
