You don't have to draft a 1st round pick, you can also trade it. It has value.

Of course you want a more valuable first round pick if it doesn't cost you anything.
Of course. Not arguing how drafting or trading work. But it's an odd strategy to throw a chance at a cup for a pick.

For the love of everything good in this world, please Leafs, do something to earn respectful handshakes this series so the Pens don’t get stuck with that nerd Dubas as our next GM.
So he finally gets them past the first round. Does that alone save his job? If they get swept, probably not. If they win 1 game? 2? 3?

I do think that he pulled out all the stops, did all that he could do at the TDL to save his own ass, but it might have been too little, too late.

If you honestly believe that’s why those fans were chanting “We want Florida!” You’re completely out to lunch.

This is an outrageous reach.

I told this dude like 2 days ago I can't believe he's still running with it.

Yes Toronto fans are chanting "We want Florida" after their first series win in 20 years because of . . . draft picks? Lmao

I'm not opposed to moving on from Dubas either, you can ridicule his RFA negotiations that's fair. But it's not Dubas' fault that the core star players do not show up. That's on them and coaching. Look at the bottom 6 this year or even this series, they are doing their job. It is once again, the core guys failing to do anything. Like did the 4 of them even generate a scoring chance tonight ?
When a manager hires the wrong staff and signs them to ridiculous contracts to the point where the team can’t perform, best believe the manager is to blame.

They have been bad this series (and honestly, minus the last series, I didn't really think they were anything special in most playoff games they've played in). Personally I've viewed those players as entitled kids since the beginning, so I was floored they got so much money, and thought that was a bad idea. But I'm also of the train of thought, that no young player should get those contracts without some playoff success (which doesn't seem like the way most think).

So you think the Leafs beat Boston?

If the Leafs lose to Florida, they're also losing to Boston. I don't understand how the fans are throwing a chance at a cup for playing a lower seeded team?

It's not over yet, but the leafs offense have to step up if they wanna get some wins. They haven't scored more than 2 goals this series. Marners has been particularly invisible offensively, 1 point in 3 games. Also has been noticeably off defensively.

As for my Panthers, can't be any happier with the result so far. Every win is a shock lmao.

People in the game day thread were disappointed because they couldn't see Dubas face after the Maple Leafs lost.

Well, I found his face. Simply fast-forward to the 2:03 mark of this video:

Hahahaha. Little man. Went from arguing to nobody's in Tampa to getting bounced in Sunrise. Hope he enjoys round 2

The Florida Panthers will be remembered for destroying this Leafs core. Whether it ends up as a good thing or bad thing for Leaf fans remains to be determined, but this group cannot just keep continuing to do what they do. Major shakeup is needed.
I am not sure how you change the core though.

It would take a lot of guts for a GM to move Matthews or Marner. You probably couldn't get equal value for them, either.

Nylander is one that could go. But he is the one with the most ideal contract.

Tavares isn't going anywhere. Full No-Movement Clause. His wife's family lives in Toronto, and so does Tavares' family. No chance he ever agrees to leave.
