That was arguably the best period we've had since game 2 against Tampa. Besides a massive defensive breakdown on their goal, they kept any chances to a minimum, and put up so many chances themselves.

The Matthews line looked amazing, and for the first time maybe since the playoffs started I didn't hate the 4th line. Tavares and Nylander don't work. It just doesn't work. Nylander needs the puck to be effective, and Tavares (and to a lesser extent Jarnkrok) have no ability or desire to give it to him. With how good the Matthews line was, I'm switching Nylander and Accari. I just have no idea how you can keep those two together. They do not fit.

Also Giordano looks completely washed. Liljegren not playing his best hockey, but Giordano looks like he's lost 5 steps and 10 IQ points in the last month.

I'll take Giordano playing if that means Holl gets to ride the pine longer and Liljegren gets to play.

It sucks that one of our veterans is playing like a pumpkin but I don't think it's reasonable to expect Keefe to bench him either.

Tavares is one of the worst 5v5 guys on this team, look what Marner did when pairing with our captain.

It's weird because Tavares *could* be so much better 5v5 if he just stopped trying to do everything himself. He straight up refuses to defer to Nylander in transition, and he barely uses Marner either.

In the offensive zone he's also a monster on the cycle which plays to Marner's strengths, but Nylander is not that player.

Nylander and Tavares just don't fit in the neutral or offensive zone, and they're both below average in the defensive zone. It just creates a line that neuters our 3rd best player. Give Tavares grinders and cycle them to death
