Another hypothesis is we’re out of gas. It’s been a long season and further than the kids have been before and the Rangers win took so much out of us that we are running on empty right now.

I don’t care if we lose the series (actually that’s not true) and after game 7 against the Rags I feel like we are playing with house money. (Problem is the team seems to be feeling the same way).

But don’t lose like this. Maybe getting embarrassed this way will feed the fires again. Maybe the fans at the rock will breathe some life back into us.

Win the next game and we are back in it.

At this point I just want to see them win Game 3. Don't go down 3-0 AGAIN after a Ranger series win. And it'd be nice if our key players had some good moments in the last however many games of this series or playoffs we have left, I don't want their lack of playoff production to be a 'thing' heading into the next postseason.

what this devils team has done this year will be remembered forever. historic turnaround. return to relevance. the arrival of world class jack hughes, captain nico, a revitalized defensive philosophy, and torch-carrying at netminder when we were spoiled (irrationally so) by the goat.

ESPECIALLY if we can maintain our never-been-swept streak.

It is worth remembering the Canes are in the middle of their window. They have already taken their lumps.

We haven't. This is new for this team, and learning how to reset after a physically and mentally draining first round is part of the process.

Also worth realizing that no matter what we learned how to win a playoff round much earlier then Toronto 's core

I f***ing love the Devils.

They restored my endless optimism this year.

Why can’t they come back from an 0-2 deficit after getting completely outclassed and sending us into despair? They literally did it a week ago lmao.

With that said, Carolina is vastly superior to the NYR. Brind’Amour is truly a hockey goat doing it as both a player and a coach. It’s an elite club he’s a part of. This is going to be like climbing Denali in shit we wear when it’s a balmy 40 in late February outside here in Jersey

Also people letting Ruff off the hook because they got axes to grind against their least favorite players.

3C Lazer with Timo was not the answer.

Making the lineup slower is not the answer against this team.

Rod the Bod has put Ruff in a total blender.

Hischier and Meier makes sense together but when did Hischier start using a laser?

This game really f***ed my mood up for a few hours. I'm in a better mindset now somewhat.

One thing we have to remember is that the Canes have made the playoffs now for like the 5th straight year. They have had Aho , Slavin , Pesce , Teravainen , Staal , Svechnikov , Martinook & Necas for every year from now till then. They have tinkered with their roster and have had alot of playoff series under Brindamour. They have had years of disappointment to learn from and to tinker with their roster. This team really has alot of experience adding players like Burns , Stastny , Skjei , Fast , Ghostisphere and Stepan. This team has alot more playoff hockey and experience under their belt. It's going to take sometime for us to get to this level. It's no excuse to get steamrolled though. The organization is going to need to continue to draft and develop well but making some hard choices with players futures here is going to be on the horizon real soon.

Brindamour quite honestly has a stacked roster to work with. Look at how good they are without Svechnikov and T.T. in their lineup. Even if Boston beat the Panthers and these two teams eventually played each other than I'm pretty sure the Hurricanes could take them down 100%. We are headed in the right direction and can still come back in this series but it's really just night and day how much better they have looked than us. Our team is very unproven. We need to see what players are for real when the stakes get this high. Our top players look very overwhelmed so far. You can't have a captain of your hockey team get his lunch fed to him on the ice by Kotkaniemi and not be going back out there looking to take advantage of the next Hurricanes player skating the puck with their head down. Hischier , Hughes and Bratt all play the same type of game when it comes to dishing hits. I'm not saying these guys are weak but all 3 are smallish players. Just watch how many times they get knocked over in the corners. I honestly don't know how you can go out therr and be okay with being the other teams bitch. It took this organization like 10 years to get competent in the faceoff circle , it seems like we have been the softest team in the league for the longest time as well.

I never thought we’d win this week just because we don’t have enough energy left be a rested Carolina. It shows how important it is not just to win a series, but to do so in 5 or 6 instead of 7.
We need 3-4 days off which we don’t have so this series will be nothing but tough.
But here’s a scenario: crowd at the Rock injects new energy into our veins, we somehow win game 3 and 4. Canes start losing the energy edge as we head back to Carolina at 2-2. Because we are a better team and have the momentum we win the series 4-2. We have some time to rest. Anything is possible in Jersey, baby

I'm good with either Schmid or Vanecek. I don't think goaltending is the problem. Vanecek could be a wakeup signal and might do better in a more "nothing to lose" situation with more rest. Maybe stylistically he could match up better. But then again Schmid has proven to be able to bounce back from a loss and was pretty incredible before this series.

I would also play Luke, not that he would be a difference maker, but just to give him a taste of playoff hockey and maybe him being around could also have a positive impact on the other guys.

The Canes are really good and gone surprisingly under the radar for being the #2 regular season team. I hope the Devs can make adjustments and at least win a game or two, but like I said during the game, I'm already incredibly impressed and thankful for the regular season, beating the Rangers and getting into the 2nd round. This is a young and upcoming team that will only get better and they've already beaten the regular season franchise record and won a playoff round. Also in the end this is just entertainment for us fans, not winning it all shouldn't take away from all the great moments we experience during the season.

I hope they empty the gas tank and give all they have, but whatever happens I'm proud of this team and already excited for the next season.

Nobody saw the comeback vs the Rangers coming. I hope they actually take a rest day tomorrow and refuel and at most maybe watch film of all the comeback wins this year. Something to ignite the fire in them and believe this is doable and the turnaround that happened in just the last 14 months. Get deep into what has worked, not what hasn't. Let the coaches gameplan and the players focus on the positive including the wins that seems out of reach but suddenly happened. Get those positive vibes flowing rather than the last 2 games.

Michael McLeod has been our best forward the last 3 games. Ruff should be rewarding certain players with more icetime. Specifically our 4th line. Our 4th line has played better than our 1st and 2nd line these past 2 games. Shit our 2nd powerplay unit has been better than our 1st unit all of the playoffs so far. It's getting to the point where it wouldn't even be crazy if Bratt , Meier and Nico play 10 minutes while these guys actually go out there and get the icetime they deserve.

I get that he's the 99 point shiny 1st overall player and all but how this version of Hughes escapes criticism relative to Bratt is something. Literally doing the exact same things as far as mistakes go, but you know...one's the golden boy.

But ultimately, none of these guys have shown up the way they should be and certainly not relative to any of the other "elite" forwards remaining in the playoffs (who are all older, to be fair...).
Not only had one produced more than the other, one has been dangerous every game and I cannot remember the last time Bratt even really threatened to score. He's been terrible.

Meier has a broken face, but he's been pretty bad too.

When Hughes and Bratt are both on their game either playing together 5 on 5 or on separate lines they can be deadly. They actually have some chemistry together but I think Ruff has kept them separate pretty much all of the playoffs minus the 1st powerplay unit. They both are really struggling along the boards. These are 2 players whose speed , edges and hands should be opening things up on the rush and counter attacks. It just isn't there and hasn't been there enough most of these playoff games.

The more I think about our underwhelming point totals from our star players , the more depressing it is.

No, it’s more the concern trolling about if our stars can do it in da playoffs as if that’s some legitimate thing to be asking about Hughes or Nico or even Timo and Bratt. No, all of these players that play different styles can’t do it. Blow it up.

Idk. I think it's right to be questioning whether we pay $8m to sign a guy who has been consistently invisible when things get physical in the regular season and now in the playoffs.

They are all young and learning. I don't think there's a similar concern about Timo or Nico's desire or courage to go into hard spaces and take a hit, and Jack is otherworldly.

You can't say that recent events have made things better for Bratt or made Fitz want to go break the bank for him.

It happens every playoffs where guys like Martinook who was on waivers suddenly becomes valuable. Macleod, Bastian, even Lazar's stock is skyrocketing and with the wealth of talent already in this team, maybe a Crouse or Hathaway and others like him are better adds for this team at this point.

The difference with the rangers series is that they dominated 5-5 but had no answers for the power play. Here, they are overmatched in all areas of the game
