He dosent need to produce if he can bring us depth. We lost feds, dubi, anisimov, prust etc and now we are rebuilding. Players like Boyle, Clowe, Pyatt, Dorsett, Asham etc wont score many goals and put up big numbers. Still they play hard along the bioards and thats what we need. Maybe Kreider and Miller are able to make the roster NeXT year, but that wont help if our bottom pairing sucks. We need 4 strong lines.

We should get rid of Richards and sign an elite forward. Its a gamble, but its worth it.

That's fine, I don't want Clowe at league minimum, even a 2-way contract. I feel the conditional pick attached to him is much more valuable.

I disagree. If you've been coached, played on teams, played for league trophies, etc... you, without question, understand the game better, the roles of particular players better, defensive schemes better, and on and on and on.

Watching hockey on TV doesn't quite give you the same thing. Ryan Clowe fills a role on any team in the NHL and has a track record of scoring, sticking up for teammates, playing in the tough areas (ie... in front of the net), intimidation, etc....

If someone doesn't see the value in a guy like that then I seriously have to question their knowledge about sport. I think that's valid.

Does his type of player help a team, yes. However that is irrelevant. He has had 2 concussions since joining the rangers. He is on the tail end of his career and prior to coming over had no goals. If we resign him we have to give up picks. On top of that he isn't going to be cheap.

His paycheck would mean he would slot in the top 6 but he really doesn't seem suited to that now. So you are talking about signing an expensive 3rd line wing with production and injury issues.

There will be less expensive younger options for that.

who?

It's a 5th rounder right now, yes. But 5th becomes a 2nd rounder when the Rangers re-sign him.

Then why did you say high 3rd/2 2nds?

Its either a 2nd/5th or two 2nds.

BTW, I love Torres, but Clowe is easily better. Hindsight is 20/20 here.

This is probably mentioned but think NHL.com quoted Torts on Richard choosing not to play during lock out but participating in the negotiations and helping out with Sandy and probably resting. Torts said it was probably not the best way to prolonge your career for an aging player, and that it might have spoiled his season. He's 33, but with a good off season he can come back to old hights. Benching him now might be what he needed to work his ass off before next season, and wouldn't be surprised if that's whats in Torts head as well. Intersting part is who will be here next season, but I think both.

Have to wait and see who becomes expendable as teams try to get cap compliant as well as try to fill from with in.

Newbury Haley if you are just looking to grind. McI potentially ads the nastiness that clowe brings.

Guys will be on the move this summer. The rangers aren't going to be the only teams using amnesty etc the risk posed by the long term contracts is incentive enough for the business side to step in and make the call

Because the trade was as followe:

San Jose acquired New York's second-round selection in the 2013 NHL Draft, the Florida Panthers' third-round selection in 2013 (previously acquired by New York) and a conditional second-round selection in 2014..

FLA 2013 3rd
NYR 2013 2nd
*NYR 2013 5th or NYR 2013 2nd

The Sharks flipped that 3rd for Raffi Torres, a player who has been much more effective than Clowe.

Haha whoops, mean 2014 NYR 5th or 2013 NYR 2nd

well obviously there are guys out there who can bring nastiness to our team but clowe actually has skill along with his gritty game which is what makes him very valuable. a 50-60 point winger who plays a gritty game and plays well in the playoffs is exactly what we could use right now.

You mean a player who has been healthier than Clowe. And one who just got suspended for an entire series.

Richards would have gotten into shape simply by playing.

Him not working during the lockout just shows laziness.

He is done. Physically and mentally.

We were talking about Clowe as a Ranger, no?

3 G, 5 A in 12 games. 82 game season = 21 G 34A 55 points pro-rated.

Yeah, that's a guy I'd say is doing fairly well and probably worth a look. Small sample size, but pretty consistent with the last four years of his career.

Except he was carried by superior linemates and has been on a step decline puck possession wise.

I will laugh at whatever team signs Clowe to a long term deal.

Bye Bye
