Post-Game Talk: ECSF #1 - 5/16/13 | New York Rangers @ Boston Bruins - Damnit!

The first goal was weak. The Bruins had 48 shots tonight as well as some great scoring chances and Hank was able keep the Rangers in the game. We need to be a little more disciplined and not take bad penalties.

Bad loss for the Rangers, but its a typical loss...Meaning a garbage powerplay and just some horrendous control of the puck...We were way out of zone on the two goals by the Bruins.

Very disappointing considering how well Lundqvist played

Lundqvist wasn't anything special until OT. He made a few nice saves but most of the chances were harmless, we defended well (as did Boston). He did however give up a horrible, mind numbing goal to force us to play the OT that he was good in. I find it unbelievable how some people have their heads in the sand with his play. He's always blameless. If the guy even makes one great save in a game, it apparently absolves him for any softies.

I know everyone is sick of hearing "oh the pp" "the pp sucks", but at what point does this team actually try to get a DECENT PP?

Boston won the cup without a good PP, ya we know. But the Rangers are not Boston and they need a semi-decent PP.

It may not have helped them tonight, but it will be part of the downfall of this team.

But 50% of his games have been mediocre of worse. This happens every year too. I just for the life of me don't understand how it seems he's either in HOF form or ECHL form (at least on some goals). He's not even remotely this inconsistent in the regular season. Does the pressure get to him? If so why does he have legendary games relatively often? Can he either concentrate really well or his head is in the sky or something in the playoffs? His play in the regular season is usually excellent, but in the playoffs it's either ultra-elite or poor. Why?

Was he poor in last years playoffs? Was he poor in 09 playoff against the Caps? Was he poor the last two games Caps series?

I think he will be fine. The team around him? Eh, we will see...

We really really need Nash to start scoring in this series if the Rangers are going to have a chance, can't go 2 rounds with him getting blanked !!

Missing PP? Lost the special teams 1-0 today. How many games in the Washington series was won by the team winning the special teams play? Maybe all? Today ... lost 1-0. lost game.

Lundy? Maybe 2 soft goals? Was excellent during OT. THe post and cross bar was truly the Rangers # 1 star. They kept the Rangers close.

Losing the opener in OT on the road wasn't totally expected. Hopefully, adjustments will be made which will help the Rangers settle
the score? Wouldn't hurt if Cally and Nash could score. IMO, More likely, we will see the collapsing forwards strategy in a defensive second game.

He was AWFUL in games 4 and 5 against the Devils. Was a bit uneven against the Caps last year. He gave up an awful go ahead goal in the 3rd period in game 5 of that series and was bailed out by Richards scoring a 1 in a million goal. We likely would have lost that series if Richards didn't score.

The fact that you're asking me about the 09 playoff against the Caps to me shows just how much people overrate him here. He was great in game 2 and absolutely amazing in game 4. He was pretty mediocre in game 1 if I remember correctly but Theodore was awful, terrible in game 3, beyond words brutal in game 5 when he gave up the first tone setting goal that was possibly worse than Chimera's, bad again in game 6. Great in game 7 until crunch time. He allowed over 3 goals per game in that series. That team sucked and without some of his heroics they likely lose in 5. That said it was an example of what I'm saying, either great of awful. Once in a while he upgrades to mediocre. He's almost never just good.

You never miss a chance to blame him. You expect him to be perfect all the time. He let in a softie, but what about the rest of the team? If the PP is less than atrocious, you don't have to dissect every rare mistake Hank makes.
McD and Stepan scored goals, what about the others? Just as you accuse others of giving Hank a pass, You are giving everyone but Hank a pass.

Does Cally have his post game comments memorized....he says the same ****ing thing after every loss.
"We have to do better on our fore-check and just regroup , get ready, and focus on the next game".......No what you and the team should be focusing on is learning how to score, especially on the ****ing abysmal Powerplay !!

Lucic and Marchand get away with absolute murder on the ice. Several times they committed penalty, including Marchand on the goal by elbowing and interfering with Zuccarello, and the refs swallow the whistle. It's absolute bullcrap

coupled with silly penalties being called altogether... The "Interference" call on Eminger was hardly a penalty... He even made an effort NOT to grab him and leave his arms in the air... Yet somehow a bruins player did that several minutes later and it was no penalty...

Convinced the league is doing everything they can to prevent wide open games for the first 4

This game . Should've locked it down but that first goal was horrid. Gor to come out next game. Take it. And also, Nash.... Please show up

This blame Hank at any cost and at any chance is getting old.
Hank is the least of this team's problems.

Dont forget the post that Del Zotto hit 4 minutes into the game... It's also the enemy

to be fair, Nash created the entire situation for the first goal by sticking with the puck. Had he not done that, McD wouldn't have gotten such good wood on that

That's not the ****ing point. It's the soft goals that kill this team. He didn't even make that many great saves. You can't allow those soft ****ing goals. It's not that he didn't get a shutout. It's that he failed to do his job today. He was awful.

Should we start Biron for game 2?

What more could you ask from a .938 sv% performance when peppered with 45 shots and team is hemmed in own end?

I'm beginning to think NYR fans don't deserve a generational talent like Hank when he is getting called out for actually playing at a high level. :shakehead He needs to be perfect to satisfy the fans it seems.

He needs to play like a generation talent. He wouldn't have faced 45 shots if he did his job in regulation. Like a quarter of those shots came in less than one OT period. Most of the shots he faced were cupcakes, until OT, I'd say. Made 2 or 3 good saves. Not even one WOW save that I remember. As always I'd prefer he make 1 less spectacular save and give up 1 less soft goal. I don't need him to be perfect, I need him to play up to his talent. Giving up goals like that is a lapse in concentration and him not doing his job.

In a game where Callahan shot wide on an open net, where we couldn't even set up the power play, barely mustered a forecheck for a lot of the game and ran around a bit in our own zone failing to clear the puck and taking stupid penalties I really have a hard time blaming Hank who stepped up his game after the two goals.

The first goal was flukey and I think he should have stopped the 2nd goal but anyone blaming him for the loss is crazy. We should be able to give up two goals and still win a game with who we have right now. I know the games against the Bruins are usually low scoring so I shouldn't expect them to score 3 but tonight was a sloppy game from both sides and we really should have taken advantage of their D. Our forecheck wasn't that great tonight. These are problems that can be fixed easily and I expect them to be. We knew exactly what to expect playing against the Caps in the playoffs. Tonight both teams were getting a feel for each other. Unfortunately, the Bruins found their game first. But that's why they play a best of 7 series and not single game elimination!

It seems that he does need to be perfect to generate some wins for this team, but that first goal he let in was a REAL softy.

Not blaming him for the loss as the problems ran deeper and several factors contributed, but watching him flub those sucked.

If people are really blaming Lundqvist for this loss, they may want to consider switching to a different sport. It all comes down to special teams and once again our PP was disgustingly pathetic. The coaches should be ashamed that it has gone 2 years with a garbage powerplay.

People say the Bruins PP isn't all that good either but they have Chara at the point and all they need to do is feed him the puck for shots at all opportunities.

They would've won in regulation if they could've scored on the late PP, as simple as that.

"McD and Stepan scored goals, what about the other?" Are you serious? How many goals do you want to score against the Bruins? If we can't win by scoring 2 goals in this series then we're screwed. We're not scoring much more than that usually. This is not the early 00s Rangers, we should be able to win by scoring 2 goals. In this game, we played well enough defensively in regulation that we SHOULD have won. The PP was atrocious, but what was it 4 PPs or so? Not like we failed on 10.

I don't have to dissect every mistake Hank makes everyone else is getting dissected, why shouldn't I dissect the mistakes by the potential HOFer? If we can dissect the mistakes of Zucc and Brassard for crying out loud, why is Hank off limits?

They were hardly all muffin shots. There were deflections where he got a good read on almost all of them, again.

It is ridiculous and I stand by it. When your goalie stop 94% of the shots he faces, your team better supply him with the offense to win games. Unfortunately, the Rangers are so inept at creating offense that one 'soft' goal become magnified.

But they never score on PP's so simplicity isn't an issue.

Hank stopping that first goal is way more simple and yet neither result occurred.

I don't see you dissecting anybody else's mistakes.
