Post-Game Talk: ECSF #1 - 5/16/13 | New York Rangers @ Boston Bruins - Damnit!

Goalies are going to allow goals sooner or later. Lundqvist went 158 minutes without allowing a goal, do I wish he handled that Chara shot better to keep that streak alive? Yeah, but even Brodeur, Roy, and others great goaltenders allowed goals they should of had, too. Why is it so hard to say that Lundqvist had a solid game but that first goal is one he usually stops instead of Lundqvist was horrible! There's no middle ground because people need to use extremes for everything.

Lundqvist didn't cost the Rangers this game, the blame tonight can be spread out. Your goaltender allowed a less than stellar goal, does that excuse the team from being a complete no-show in the overtime yet again? Does that excuse the special teams? I wish they'd stop being so "special" and a bit more productive.

Bottom Line: The game's tied 2-2 after 60, both goalies had their good and not so good moments. The OT is a final battle to determine the winner and only one team looked ready for it. That's more inexcusable than anything.

I think it's being overstated how well the rookies played for the Bruins.

Fact of the matter is, if Chara didn't average 70 minutes a game, they'd be in big trouble. He was eating alot of their minutes tonight.

Well, we didn't force them to really have to make quick decisions. Our forecheck was meh.

Exactly this! :handclap: Agree 100%.

It was pushed in by the butt of his stick and this all happened very quickly. I'm sorry but that one was a little flukey. Soft, but flukey nonetheless. I thought the second goal was way worse.

I'm just pissed. I don't expect Hank to be infallible. But it certainly seems like he has to be to give this team a chance to win. Every goalie gives up soft goals but it seems like a lot of them can be bailed out. We can't. I think we are naturally predisposed to demand consistent excellence from Hank (which is extremely unfair, don't get me wrong) but he separates hope and doom for this ****ing team.

I think we've all given up on Richards at this point and the consensus is he blows right now and there's no point in discussing it anymore lol.

Even when he was bad earlier this year, I had his back. Now, I think I've straight given up all hope and I just don't expect anything from him. When he isn't invisible, he's a liability and managed to go from highly paid FA #1 Center to holding back a line consisting of Chris Kreider and Arron ****ing Asham.

It's hard to blame Hank when he gives up 3 goals on 48 shots.......Look at it this way, Quick another fantastic goalie like Lundqvist, gave up 3 goals tonight on 30 shots, but you know what, his team scored 2 Powerplay goals in the last 2 minutes to win the game.....The Rangers have scored 2 Powerplays goals in 8 playoff games, our offence can never bail Hank out like other teams can.

Bottom line: Special teams

Not going to win many series when your PP is at a staggering 6%. We make Boston's PP look like the Chicago of the East. We have no idea what we are doing out there, like Pierre said, this team has too much talent not to have a good PP. I liked that he was ripping into it all night, because he sees what Tortorella and Sullivan do not.

Give this Rangers team a top 10 PP, and we are going places. For now, with this **** show transition game, and this **** show PP, fuhgettaboutit!

Our transition game can at least be fixed. No hope for the PP. Though I'd still like to see Brass and Moore on the first unit and I'm still tired of seeing Girardi out there constantly getting his shot blocked.

Not blaming Hank for the loss but his play was not stellar. We are quite spoiled here.

The loss last night - again - is a result of an inept power play and our 3 most handsomely paid offensive players not at all living up to the investment we have made there. If Callahan, Nash and Richards together continue to play so poorly and do not contribute more on the score sheet then we will be playing golf in the next round. It really is that simple - guys are making over $23 million this year together and the rest of the team cannot be expected to make up for the lack of production from the "to go" guys - especially visible on the PP.
Wake up guys!

I'd be more worried about that 15 million black hole rather than Lundqvist letting in a weak goal.

Agreed. The transition game can be fixed or at least look much better. Its completely inexcusable from Torts.

The PP, well, Torts could at least have some common sense on having a passer and shooter on the points.

But why try to score on a PP? When you can put Dan G on it and defend?

Only Game 1. After all i saw, i feel confident. More than ever. Rangers win game 2. Count it.

Bruins powerplay looks great compared to ours...if they don't start getting something with the man advantage this series is gonna be over quick.

Seriously, reading the posts here makes it sound like we could not have played worse and got shut out 6-0 rather than losing 3-2 in OT. If that's really true, in a vacuum, game 2 should be an easy win.

It's not only the power play. This team is just so inconsistent and inept at shooting at times. Lundy was being peppered with shots left and right, and when he wasn't, pucks were hitting the posts.

Us? Shots get easily blocked, they go wide, we aim for the crest, or we do that stupid shot/pass to the goalie from the side. Honestly, how many times has that worked? Has anyone gotten to a rebound from that?

It's like with Cally doing those behind the back passes; why are you doing it if it never ****ing works?

And when they do have a lane to shoot, when they are open, it's only a 50% chance that they will take a shot. The other 50% they are passing the puck - as I like to put it - into oblivion. Sure, don't shoot the puck. Just pass it to someone standing behind the net.

Lundqvist lost this game for us tonight. 2 soft goals.

You have to be kidding. Yes, he should have saved at least one of these but you can't close your eyes for a big number of great saves.

45 saves and 93,8% is elite numbers (as usual).

As long as his GAA is 2 or better and save procentage higher than 93% or better it's hard to blame the goalie.

Score 3 goals and win the ****ing game.

A team has a big problems when everything comes down to the goalie.

Rangers fans: Rangers win games because of the goalie, Rangers loose games because of the goalie? :shakehead

The Rangers offense have to improve, yes, it's simple as that. Lundqvist is good enough.

Lundqvist could probably win a playoff series with Colorado or Calgary as well but I thought Rangers was better than that?

Rangers can't win whenever Lundqvist lets in 2 goals, carrying Rangers on his shoulders is an understatement, it's almost ridiculous.

Also, Rangers being outplayed in many games only kept in the game by a good defense and Lundqvist.

If nothing changes with Rangers offensive Lundqvist will need to be better than a King, he will need to play godlike.

lol...Every series is the same with Ranger fans , Its a game by game state of affairs. If we win were the greatest. If we lose the world is coming to an end. I still stand by my original prediction. Rangers in 6. Have No fear.

I'm not one for series predictions but I'll give you that this series goes at least 6.

Henke takes the blame for the OT goal according to Norwegian media, he calls it a technical error the way he tried to make the save..

I'm proud of this board. We lost a game and the Coaching/Management thread didn't get blown up :handclap:

At some point you have to give it a rest and just support the team. And at some point you also have to point some fingers at certain players, too.

The Rangers are masters at losing winnable playoff games. They're going nowhere until they develop a killer instinct.

Completely agree, this team is way too complacent. Letting the game come to them and reacting instead of attacking, which is why Lundqvist needs to stand on his head every night. There was no life in the overtime period, you knew Boston was scoring it was just a matter of when. At one time Callahan would step up and set a tone but now he's more interested in blind passes to the other team. It's very frustrating as a fan because you know these players have it, it's just like pulling teeth getting any attack out of these guys for whatever reason.

Well my predictions are more predictions of confidence. Not events as they may play out. We could easily win the next 4 and be done in 5. ;0)......

ARE U KIDDING ME WITH THESE OT LOSSES!!!!!!!!! i swear to god im not watching anymore ranger overtimes, im f'ing done. what is lundqvists playoff ot record? its gotta be god awful. we are the most unlucky overtime team ive ever seen, CAN WE GET 1 F'ING BOUNCE IN OT???????????????????? i keep watching cuz i think "we're due, even by accident we're bound to win an overtime game". so sick of this ****

Unlucky?

The metal behind Hank was the Rangers best player.

I wish that posts that blame refs for losses could automatically be rejected by the server because they are wrong 99% of the time.

Blaming Hank for that loss is funny. Some of you guys who sit on the couch don't understand that when you face that many shots, occasionally some will go in.

The Bruins were much the better team in Game 1. The metal behind Hank played awesome.

Those of you crying that the Rangers are doomed after losing Game 1 on the road in OT should be banned from watching any more games.

I hate when people write that they will no longer watch the games or overtimes and then post after the next game.

They lost a game. Get a grip.
