Neither of Hurricanes were lines until around mid March but a cute game to play in fact Jarvis was on line 4 and Domi was a BJ.

If we are playing the relevancy of that it should be noted the Hurricanes outscored the Bruins 13-1 since January 1st.

Haula is not a first liner period....

It’s been well documented that the bruins season turned around on Jan 1st when they split up Marchand Bergeron Pastrnak. This gave Hall another elite talent to play with and let DeBrusk and Haula slide into roles where they could be 3rd fiddle instead of trying to drive their own lines. It’s worked and since then all six players have been scoring like 1st liners, even if we of course know that Haula has only seen this kind of production one other season in his career.

Dropping Pasta there is a similar move to us dropling Turbo to line two... It does elevate the entire lines play....

Marchand>Svechnikov (not by much) Aho> Than Bergeron (I honestly am not sure by how much at this point since it's obvious berg is coming to the end of the line (career) Jarvis >>> Debrusk (10 less games played three minutes average less ice time) 40 to 42 points.

Hall>>Domi (by a surprisingly low amount points wise) Trocheck>>Haula this is the one I am a stickler at we've had him on a playoff team of ours and played agaist him he's a middling 2nd liner at best.

Pasta>>Turbo but by less than most bruins fans will be willing to admit.

Not that this matters because h2h as our second and third lines will be matched up agaist your top two...

Haula is not on the first line. He is second line C. Since Jan that line has been looking good.

Bergy may be near the end of his career, but he is still very good, and I believe you are underestimating him.

I hope it is a good series with no injuries to either player. ...with the Bruins winning .

This will be a hard and long series but I hope Bruins come on top. I would have prefered to face the Leafs in round 1, at least you know your chances are like 9 to 1 :naughty:

If a 3rd line hadn't emerged plus no trade for Lindholm, along with Haula, Hall and DeBrusk waking up - would have said Canes sweep.

Add Goaltending woes for Carolina. Bruins in six.
Coyle has been bad down the stretch and has gone cold in putting the puck in the net as has Craig Smith. Both of those guys have been invisible lately. Frederick only guy on that 3rd line to score recently. They don't wake up no way they move on.

I think most of the hockey world would not agree with your Ago vs Bergeron statement, but it doesn’t matter. This isn’t how hockey works. If things are going right, the sum is greater than the value of the individual parts. Haula has been a perfect fit between Hall and Pasta. He can keep up with them speed wise, provide some forecheck, and has enough finish to take care of business. In this particular role, he hasn’t produced like the 3rd liner he is, but with the production of a first liner. it’s a perfect fit. Similarly, DeBrusk has been put in a position where if he skates hard and heads to the net, he can do what he is good at: finishing around the net. Neither of those guys are first liners in a vaccuum. Especially Haula. But, they are in positions where their talents are being but in a position to succeed and their weaknesses are being minimized.

Think about TDA. If he wasn’t playing with Slavin, his style of play would only be first pairing on a lottery team. But, because of how he is deployed, he is able to fill the role, and fill it just as well as a guy who is being paid a several several times more in Jersey.

Bruins defense(especially McAvoy, Forbort, and Gryzleck), top line, PP, and Ullmark just weren't good enough in game 1. I expect all three to better for game 2.

Hurricanes' PK outstanding. Slavin and Aho as well.

I'm sure they will be better. I don't believe it will be enough... The all four of the Canes lines can score... and of course our PK is outstanding it was up over 91% most of the season and dropped to 88.7% when Freddie got hurt..... and that's including the fact that the Hurricanes are one of the MOST penalized teams in the NHL.

It was much tighter game that the numbers tell. Raanta was amazing. The difference from the past is that Bruins can't dominate the Canes physically anymore. Chara's gone and Bergeron and Marchand looked like old men. Also faceoffs were dominated by the Canes.

Powerplay was really bad, the B defended well.

I want more ice time for Kotkaniemi, he can bring it

Boston looked better, but moral victories count for nothing. I expect a tight series from this point with the Bruins winning in 7.

God Carolina sure knows how to break your will in seconds.

Nosek has two glorious chances, misses both and then the Canes score two quick ones.

Hall pulls it within one, goes back and rings what would be the tying goal off the post and then the Canes turn a horrendous pinch into another goal.

And then that PK, my god. Bruins couldn’t do anything.

This is either going to be a real quick series or an absolute grind.

Keep telling yourself whatever you must.... The Bruins won exactly one aspect of the game, SOG......

Dominated in every other aspect, Out hit, Destroyed at the dot, there response late in the game was one of a team that got whipped and realizes they are out matched.... Just look at Marchands face.

Fellow Canes fans should chill in here lol. We beat them good outside the 1st but Boston is a good team and they won't go down easy(if at all). This will be a good series.... Oddly enough I'm thinking goaltending will be the difference and after all the shit the Canes took in the offseason those decisions sure are paying off now. Hope Raanta stays healthy and Anderson returns

that game was a lot of fun after the first 30 minutes or so. boston not scoring in the first when the canes played like ass was huge - hail raanta.

but, it was one game. and i won't believe the canes have got the bruinsmonkey off their back until about game two of the second round if they actually do win the series.

Not getting ahead of myself at all, there is a long series ahead. But I am pleasantly surprised at the Canes matching (and even surpassing in Game 1) the Bruins physicality. A common take on the Canes the last few years has been “are they a playoff style team”. I thought we’d compete with the Bruins in spite of losing the physical battle, not because we were able to go toe-to-toe. That’s promising to see, I hope it keeps up.

Or that in an effort to match the physicality Carolina would take some dumb penalties or leave themselves out of position too often.

They did leave themselves out of position on occasion going for hits, but only had 2 minors involving contact (3rd was a delay of game for a puck over the glass.)

It was encouraging to see that in game 1. Can they keep up the physical aspect without abandoning their position and without taking penalties as the series goes on? Important question.
