"A goalie is only as good as the team in front of him" - Mike Richter

Call me an old fogey, since Richter was literally my idol when I was younger I think some are taking this comment out of context.

I'm pretty sure this was a comment from Richter in response to someone praising his play and him basically deflecting it back to guys in front of him. Because that was the kind of guy Richter was, he'd be the first to say it was his team that made him play as well as he did.

So please before anyone tries to take anything away from Richter and his knowledge of the game - understand everything around that quote and not just the one statement. Not trying to start a war. :)

Let's beat these guys tonight!!!!

They would be 0-3 in D.C. So they're just going break through in a game 7? Sorry, but I don't see that.
Home ice is holding up in this series thus far.

If the Rangers want to win the series, they have to take the next two.

It wouldn't be the first time and it certainly wouldn't be the last that home ice held right up until game 7.

Probably, but I'm sure he pointed to in frequently from 1998-2004

so how many shifts till Tom Wilson gets his first NHL goal or point?? it usually happens vs NYR??? :sarcasm:

are the Rangers the only team in the playoffs now without a road win??? Rangers have to win on the road tonight....

im gonna say 4-2 Rangers

Caps take 2-0 lead into 3rd and then Rangers score 4 goals in the 3rd..

im gonna guess goals by Brassard, Clowe, Stepan and McDonagh

No... The Caps haven't won on the road, neither have the Blues.

Let's go into DC and get one tonight. Need to play with some urgency early as the Caps are likely to come out firing.

He's skating fast and still flying off the ice on checks, so how hurt could he be?

I was reading an article on the Wash Post site and a ton of people seem to think he is hurt - since Game 3 from that hit. Granted, Caps fans are a little slow, but still.

Nash skates hard in certain instances and then slacks in others. So I don't know what to believe anymore.

Why do Rangers fans always find the need to make excuses for their opponents (like they're hurt)? Why don't you leave that to Caps fans?

I think we come out with the win tonight. Either a 3-2 win or 2-1 win, and look like dootie at home. Game 7 is up for grabs.

IIRC, Caps have a recent track record of letdowns on home ice during Game Sevens.

That said, I agree with you.

Really need to win this game as well, come out flying guys... we need it :)

I just hate it that it CAN'T be that the Rangers are playing good defense, it HAS to be that Ovi is injured. Circular logic. He's playing like **** because he's injured. He's injured because he's playing like ****.

For the love of god, win.

Games three and four were fun, and the team looked great, but we're headed back to DC...I'm hoping for the best and expecting the worst.

Tough to win 3 straight in the PO's, but if they want to advance they have to take one on the road...may as well be tonight.

Hasn't Nash's injury been speculated since like the last two weeks of the regular season? When did Ovi's injury speculation surface?

Sorry, but in all fairness, every fan base does this.

The excuses for Nash ("he must be injured!") and Hank ("that backhand shot wasn't that easy to save!") on this board are endless.

Assuming that someone is playing poorly because of an injury is arrogant and a slap in the face of the opponent. Hence, I'll leave people making excuses for Nash to those that want to partake in such activity. Something tells me it's not Caps fans that'll be making that excuse, but of course Rangers fans are making excuses for the Caps. I envy eternal optimist fan bases like the Caps, much better than the eternal pessimist fan bases like the Rangers.

Based on what I have read, just since Game 3.

I mean, speculation is speculation. Regardless of how long the speculation is going on, it doesn't validate anything. There are no official reports for either OV or Nash.

I personally didn't think OV was that banged up - but I also don't watch Caps games all the time so I don't know if I would notice differences in his play.

BTW, the Hank excuse is different. The Ovi excuse is taking away credit from the opponents. The Hank excuse actually GIVES credit to the opponent. The former, unless based on something is poor form. When it's Rangers fans doing it, it's mind blowing.

I agree with this.

I haven't been on the "Nash is injured" bandwagon at all. If he is injured, ok, then I am wrong. But it gets really annoying when a player is not contributing, you make a comment about it, and everyone yells that he is injured. You don't know that for a fact, so how are you using that to validate an argument?
