I guess for me it just strikes me as weird bruins fans have the same exact reaction losing in the playoffs this season as every other like they were a six seed. Like they weren’t the greatest team in history and they STILL had zero expectations. Like oh well the regular season was great and oh well. Just don’t know how you can be not be angry and completely fed up. I just can’t relate I guess.
The thing is with sports we all know the most talented and highest ranked teams are never guaranteed a championship. Hockey because of its grueling schedule and the necessity of winning 16 games in the postseason to hoist the cup is the sport where any team has the ability to win. Injuries, hot goaltenders and plain outright luck factor into a large number of cup runs. Would I have felt different if the Bruins were the 4 seed and went out in Round 1 -absolutely not. Whenever your in the postseason theres a chance for Lord Stanley.

As you can see, arguing with anyone that holds the view that there is one winner and everyone else is a loser (tied for last) is a fruitless venture. They are right every year about the Bruins. If the B's actually won the Cup this year, they wouldn't even post here.

No I’d 100% eat crow and congratulate them. Plenty examples of me eating crow around here and being the first one to raise my hand. This would be no different.

Just funny it doesn’t go both ways. I’ll gladly list the things I’ve been wrong on right now if you want me to, I do it often.

And the sakic/Blake/Foote twilight years

And the current example of the penguins with Crosby, Letang, malkin and petry all over 35 and having prominent roles and slowly going from cup contenders to missing the playoffs.

Holding on to aging veterans on top 6 and top 4 roles has always been a losing battle.

Unfortunately Bruins management doesn’t see it.

Though they did win a Cup with a 35-year-old goalie and a 40-year-old top pair defenseman.

I get all this. The greatest team in the history of the league won 3 games and played 7. They led 3-1. They did not lose game 7 conference finals. All those things obviously factor into cup runs. As do players choking when it matters. Human elements. The Bruins didn’t have a run. They didn’t even have a brisk walk.

Again is about winning when you should. All seasons are not the same. 2017 we were happy they were back in the playoffs and building up again. You are once again discounting the expectations there were for this team. They couldn’t even win a round lol. Pathetic. To sugar coat it as 31 teams lose is ridiculous especially when it’s only 16 that get in. Those that don’t just failed period. Some by design

Bruins need a center and JLD is available and looks like Winnipeg will need a goalie if the rumors are true. Sure they would want Swayman plus…

There is a lot more grey area than you are suggesting here. If the bruins were a young rebuilding team making the playoffs for the first time many of us would be happy they finally got a playoff birth and happy to see the progression.

However when you have an veteran team that’s core has been in its mid to late 30s for a few years and have spent… what is it now 4 first round picks in the last 3 years in efforts to win the Stanley cup, there is a much different standard and level of expectation.

Found this on fb today.

The depiction of the Bruin is dead on. Especially his book.

I’m fine with Bergeron back, but not as your number 1 center.

Love the guy, but there’s a lot of mileage on those tires, and it’s a matter of when, not if he gets hurt.

If he comes back for peanuts, it’s got to be on a reduced workload or they’re DOA.

And maybe that means doing some reshuffling and moving a guy like Coyle out, and maybe even moving one of your better wings out.

Feels like they’ve hit a dead end. Can’t keep going down the same path at this point.

I want major changes to the pro roster, and they’ve got little in the way of draft capital to work with.

That means that either someone or someones have to go, or you slowly descend into mediocrity.
If he is going to have ANY further say on how this team is run, what the “right way” is of doing things is, who the coaches are, etc., I 10000000% do not want him back.

As a 3rd line C who keeps his yap shut for peanuts? Fine, for a year during a rebuild. Maybe, but I’d rather move on and start forgetting the past 10 years.

Yep, Bergy had us all fooled.

He was leading the team down the road to ruin the last 10 years while most of us were thinking he was a great player, great person and great leader.

Congratulations, your expectations were fulfilled, mine were not. It use to be said 2 out of 3 ain’t bad, the Bruins live by 1 out of 50 is outstanding.

I thought we were discussing Bergeron, not the Bruins.

Or are you implying the team's fate was tied directly to Bergeron and only Bergeron.?
Yes, let’s speak in absolutes, if the blame is not 100% one person’s fault, then it can’t be anybody’s fault.

If I believe it’s time to move in another direction, nothing that happened before was good or of any value.

I’ve honestly loved the guy, DK too, but doing the same thing, expecting a different result as players relied on age and are diminished from the previous year isn’t going to get it done, IMO.

Agreed. This team should of traded Bergeron for circus peanuts instead of Thornton all those years back. A true leader like Jumbo Joe would of lead us to the promise land.:sarcasm:
