We've been the better team in every game this series, and were a veteran group that knows not to change much. Big guys need to finish their chances and if they do the series will be over before the weekend. If they let it slip away they deserve whatever comes from it. LGR

This is a game where Panarin needs to step up. We are paying him a fortune for this very spot. A lot of us, including myself criticized Kane, yet he has showed up in this series.

Kreider, Shesty and Fox have been stellar, but need more from our other guys, who have not played bad at all, but can't rely on just one or two guys to make a game changing difference.

Once upon a time, I used to WISH FOR 7 game series, because it meant MORE Rangers hockey and an incredibly stressful game 7. Prob about 5 years later, I got to learning about how essential it was to finish off a series, quickly and painlessly. Painless is the key word here.
The least amount of games, means there is "less chance" of players getting injured or bruised up to the point where it lessens their performances.
I predicted 5, and yeah a win tonight is essential for that to come true. But unlike others, I am not wavering on this team. We KNOW how to win game 7's, unlike some other devilish team, that I won't speak of. Hate them AND especially their stupid fans.
Rangers 5, Devils 1. Yes, that winning score again.

So you were rooting for the Rangers to lose games?

It's increasingly rare in today's NHL that series aren't close. Even a team getting handily outplayed wins games.

The old Rangers teams didn't fail to pull away because they lacked "killer instinct" or whatever you wanna call it. The old Rangers teams were constantly in close series because they were team getting outplayed and stealing games.

This team hasn't been outplayed in large part due to their defense. But listening to you and others our defense sucks. Why has it been so effective compared to the 11-12 team for example?

I was never more certain about winning a series than going into that first round matchup against the Devils in 08.

It was a much different series though than the season series. The Devils scored 3+ goals in three of the five games, whereas they didn't do it once in 8 games that season.

Panarin needs to just keep doing what he's doing and finish. He's missed more chances than anyone else in this series.
When he's cold, he's Chytil cold. Nothing goes in. He's at his best when he's sniping above the pad/below the blocker/glove. He can't hit corners reliably, for some reason lately.

He's getting frustrated too, you could see how he reacts after chances.... I hope it doesn't lead to him over passing now.

Our team defense is very good. There's a huge difference between your team defense and the 6-7 guys making up the defense corps. The former is top 10 in the league and the latter is below average. I think what the latter is poor at is transition, not defense.

I see a lot of similarities with 2011-12.

Neither team should be accused of being the 2003 Devils but they're both solid, bend-but-don't-break team D's that limit quality. 2012 was Girardi's okayest year and similarly, our worst pair (probably Miller-Trouba) is still fairly serviceable. The main problem on both corps is transition, and maybe a guy or two playing a minute or three more than he should be.

The main difference is that the 2012 team had absolutely no skill outside of Richards and Gaborik, which 1) didn't help the already bad transition game and 2) once the Devils figured out we weren't a rush threat (actually Ottawa did and NJ perfected it), they were doing crazy high-risk pinches to keep possession. That's why plugs like Bryce Salvador and Matt Carkner were putting up points.

Our current D corps being poor at exits could present a barrier to winning the Cup, but they don't present as easy of an out as the 11-12 team did. As a team, our defensive analytics are strong.

Rangers are winning this game and the series.
Devils have done nothing over 3 games to think any different. We shot ourselves in the foot game 3.

We didn't execute, we over passed, couldn't handle the puck and couldn't hit the net. Was the urgency lacking? The team has struggled this season once getting 2-0 leads.

Lets hope we're much sharper tonight and focused. I'd personally would like if they all stayed in Hotels the rest of the Playoffs.

You also have to consider that the Rangers have Pierre Pilote meets Paul Coffey on their D corps.

The drop-off when he's not on the ice is sometimes alarming.

I try to empathize with the officials because what they do is hard.

I get things not being called by the book because there would literally be a penalty every play if you did.

I even get the game management because, sure, as an official you don't want to give one team nine more powerplays than the other. You don't want to call a third penalty when a team is already down 3v5. There's a human element of not wanting to affect the game. Right or wrong, I can wrap my head around it.

What really annoys me is their open and acknowledged paradigm of "I'm not gonna call the offense, I'm gonna call the retaliation." So you're saying it's ok if a guy tries to hurt me, you're openly acknowledging that you're not going to do anything, and I'm expected to do nothing about it because...it makes your job easier?

If they miss it, they miss it. People make mistakes. They saw what Meier did and they called the retaliation because potentially injuring somebody is fine as long as it doesn't escalate and they look like they're in control.
Agree with everything, except that I don't have my head totally around it, like you do. Don't understand why they simply don't call BOTH infractions. (Presuming they see it) By calling ONLY the retaliation, aren't they indeed incensing more of an altercation?
Look at how Trouba has to defend himself, when he lays a big hit. They've been getting THAT right, so, why can't they NOT look the other way, UNTIL someone retaliates, and nailing only the one player. At the very least, don't penalize just ONE team. Makes NO sense.

I feel less nervous about this game than I did going into Game 3. I don’t know why. But the Rangers took a gut punch last game. The devils made a couple of adjustments, and now it’s the Rangers turn to adjust. I fully expect them to. We have the edge in goal and have committed to a solid team defensive game. The reality is that the Rangers failed to execute last game, I don’t expect that to continue. Schmid will be tested in this game. He’ll have to steal it

Devils will be playing low and slow so we need to ground and pound, get pucks to the paint and play small ball to get the W. LGR

Yeah its Panarin time. He had a big bounce back in the regular season, but he himself has said he wants to be better than last playoff and so far the numbers haven't been there. Mika needs to get hot as well, but it took him 4-5 games to get going in the playoffs last year before he took over.

Humiliate them. Destroy them.

Break their will to live. 20-0 with a Mikola double hat-trick. Hischier, Meier, Bratt, Hamilton and Hughes out for 10 seasons due to resulting mental trauma (but remain totally fine in their personal lives and keep collecting paychecks, because I'm sure they're lovely people off the ice).

I've lost so much respect for Meier as a player. He is not the gritty player he was made out to be in the media. He goes to the dirty areas for show then flops around the ice like Magikarp and the refs fall right for it. I hope one of our guys are in line to give him the beating he deserves by the end of this series.

Just another dollar store Kreider.
