I think the Devils are playing better than we are tonight and have a better lineup than we do.

And I think if that's true (I don't agree) the rangers experience should lend to them knowing not to give a wounded animal life. The way they have allowed the devils back into this series is what I would expect the younger/inexperienced team to do

For sure, but history has shown there are ways to “force” a guy to waive. I doubt Panarin wants to play on a line with Goodrow and Vesey, 9 minutes of EV per night for the rest of his contract. Is it a fool proof/guaranteed way to get him to waive? No, but typically once you tell a guy explicitly we don’t want you anymore, they’re more amenable to moving on. The return wouldn’t be much to write home about but I’d settle for the 12M cap space and the culture change.
