I think the pressers are a very, very boring events to him. That's his personality and he'll never ever change.

My feeling was his playing back in the crease had him at a bad angle. Had he been even just a little further out on the top of the crease or at least slightly to his left I think he had the reaction to make the save. He's a phenomenal goalie positionally goal's like that just don't happen to him often and I think he screwed the pooch on it.
 
Hope Powe is ok (hopefully no concussion), but he really shouldn't be in the lineup... addition by subtraction... I don't find him so good on the PK like many make him out to be, quite the opposite actually... Kreider and Newbury should be in over him.

Very nice to see. No more Bickel for 5 minutes in a triple OT game. This team is deeper and better equipped to go far in the playoffs, as compared to last year's team. However, last year's seemed both more prepared and better coached than this year's team. This has not been one Tortorella's better coaching jobs.

No way. Powe is probably our best penalty killer and Washington has a PP that's historically good. There's no chance the Kreider or Newbury are an upgrade over a healthy Powe. The only person I can see Kreider replacing, at this point, is Pyatt (who happened to have a decent game last night).

I would think human psyche wise that retreating into a familiar habit imparts a sense of control and helps calm the nerve a bit. Interesting stuff to me. Nobody thinks of these guys as individual people miles away with their own thoughts and quirks. They're just figures on a screen for us to comment on anonymously

I'm not saying a damn thing in terms of the arguement you were having but you LITERALLY stole this quote from me almost word for word from our PM only I was saying it at you instead of for you and I meant it but I can tell you mean this as well.

Then I read something like this and I realize
A) Speaking in absolutes usually results in being wrong although it may be representative of a general truth

B) we have a lot of tenured posters around here who might know the game REALLY well but we also have some VERY flawed individuals b/c that's what being human is and I dunno where that expertise is but it ain't displayed often in these threads that's for sure.

C) We give each other WAY too much sh** for stating opinions. The more outrageous and borderline moronic an opinion SEEMS to be the more we should be laughing it off instead we launch into questioning someone as a fan and launching personal attacks

It's extremely stupid b/c from what i've seen no one on here has displayed much in terms of any actual expertise or ability to discuss the game. Even lurking for what seems like forever I barely saw anything like the cool little bits of minutiae that gets discussed in a behind the bench episode or even a stupid ass little segment in the middle of an On the fly episode for example. Nothing to improve my awareness of what to look for on the ice to be a "better fan" of either the Rangers or just hockey in general.

Yet reading many arguements and posts you'd think there was a high society of posters or something. An HF Hockey elite. Maybe we're all just a giant collection of *******. Seems about normal
 
I really don't get the crap talk about Pyatt. People blame him for Green's goal, but if Cally would slide like that, it would have been a heart & soul effort. He was just unlucky and Green took advantage of the screen.

Pyatt is not our worst player. For a 3rd line player he is fine

Great post.

I play hockey 2-3x per week and the biggest flaw that I see with most people that post here is that they forget that although NHL players are playing at an elite level, they are human. There's a huge amount of pressure on them (not talking "fans" or "contract" pressure), I'm talking about pressure from the opposing team.

There will be mistakes. There will be moments where two guys cover the same forward down low and leave someone open. They won't hit the net on a slapshot from the point because they're trying to aim it between defenders and at the small hole they see in the net. The puck will go on edge, hop over sticks, and there will be times they'll take their eye off the puck or make the wrong read on a pinch.

They are going to make mistakes and, it seems, every time they do the entire fanbase wants them traded, benched, or the coach fired. A game that's played this fast with this much pressure inevitably leads to some bad decisions.

There are certainly a group of posters who act as if they are the HF elite. You know them when they start talking about being "long time posters" and say things like "this is why I don't post as much anymore" or "why do you think all the old posters don't show up anymore?" My favorite has to be though, "there used to be such interesting and great hockey discussion here." Insinuating that because this place isn't like it used to be, it can no longer be a place for great discussion. There is a term for this and it's called jaded. Something changes and they don't like it so they get indignant or condescending to new posters. I've seen it so much on so many boards and it is comical how this group of people act exactly the same no matter where you go.

There is a lot of bickering and almost all of it stems because people immediately start attacking someone for not having a popular opinion. I've seen at least two posters, one of them pretty intelligent, run off the boards (permanently) because the majority here didn't like what they had to say and constantly drew them in to pissing matches and **** slinging. It's really sad. Everyone is different but to most different just means wrong or stupid and so they are treated as such. I applaud Kershaw, even though I don't often agree with him (completely) for having conviction and standing behind his opinion despite the nightly onslaught of posters crapping on him.

People complain about good hockey discussion on one hand, and condemn people for their opposing opinion on the other. Good discussion stems from a differing and diverse set of opinions, not everyone agreeing all the time. Yet those same posters go right to the sarcasm, hyperbole and name calling without fail.
 
The announcers during the game on Saturday were talking about shifts and average ice time in last years playoffs. They said that was more then likely the cause of the Rangers running out of steam against the Devils.

They were playing 9 forwards and 4 D-men. Now they are playing 12 forwards and 6 D-men. Bodes well for a hopefully deep playoff run.

The people who think they are the HF elite usually end up on my ignore list.

As for the game, big win. That's all I have to say about that.

Oh I would add to for anyone stuck in the DC area, instead of listening to the caps announcers I suggest synching up the radio feed if you can. I ran that last night on my laptop and it helped me keep my sanity, I plan on doing it friday again too, worked well last night, didn't have to fumble around with the pause on either the tv or radio, was a near perfect match. The radio feed was maybe half a second behind, heard the posts and fan reaction slightly before I saw the action, not enough to be an issue though.

Pyatt didn't sell out on that play, hurt the team, not helped. I don't think Pyatt is the type of player that plays with tempo, sets a tone, nor does he contribute on special teams. What he is good at, is not making mistakes with the puck.
