Post-Game Talk: ECQF Game 2: Rangers @ Capitals 5/4/13 - Lundqvists 0 - Capitals 1

He's a hockey player not a molecular biologist. And when you're talking to the media you're not exactly going to put everything in haiku.

You don't have to be even a HS graduate to be able to elaborate more than that, let alone a molecular biologist. That statement he gave is about as good as a shoulder shrug.

What does defensive minded means?

We give up a helluva amount of chances. Hank is asked to make impossible saves on regular basis. We play a style in which we always are on our heels, without Hank we would be on par with Philly defensively.

We suck defensively to be honest.

We do not give away a lot of pucks in te neutral zone (duh we just fire pucks through it), but what good does that do when we can't defend it either.

We are easily the worst coached team in the league right now.

I wouldn't say we suck defensively. I just think we play WAY too much of it. Sooner or later, even with a great defensive team, your going to have massive breakdowns if your playing most of the period in their end. In the second period today, it felt like the Rangers played almost 70 percent of that period defending.

In fact, I think our D corps is awesome considering how little help they get from their forwards playing in the Ozone. They constantly breakup rushing plays up ice.

The only major issue with our system defensively, in terms of coverage, the wings are bit soft with supporting the puck along the wall or covering the point men. But that is the collapsing zone D for you.

The transition is the major problem. The stretch pass has to go. Rangers constantly try to move forwards way too far out of the zone and try for those home run passes. All it does is just defer the puck to the opposing team.

Well, I actually been calling for Torts firing well before this series. I honestly didn't care about making the playoffs if we couldn't even get out of the first round. Its looking like thats probably going to happen.

Hell, the Caps haven't really even played a good game yet.

this! the Caps are totally beatable. All we needed was functioning powerplay and at the very least we'd be sitting 1-1.

Total BS how that after 4 yrs there's no set plays, no structure, no semblance of any working offensive strategy. I'm absolutely baffled at how obstinate and thick this guy is.

If it takes running through walls every game all season long for his "system" to work, then say goodbye to this guy. Full training camp or not, it'll be more of the same from a coach who admittedly doesn't coach offense!

I think it would be foolish to give him another year. If they do, they need to apologize to renney.

bring zubov back next year just to run the power play he cant be as bad as the guys we have out there now

why can't they get Brian Leetch to coach a PP?! What purpose does he serve in this organization right now besides being propped up with Mess and Graves as the last remnants of when we were a winning team?

Thats why the Rangers will never win with Tortorella coaching this team. Sooner or later, in the playoffs, your going to play a team you don't match up well against. You got to make adjustments tactically to beat those teams. Torts is incapable of doing so.

I dont know if it will matter as I dont know if this loss will light a fire under our team.

How many teams have come back being down 2-0 to win?

It's happened obviously. I don't see the Rangers losing two at MSG. Although if they drop game 3, it is a good possibility. Rangers win two at MSG and it's a new series. Unfortunately, they seem to have stunk on the road all season and it's no different now.

And have messier show nash boyle how to hit someone and still be able to score a goal.

Want to know why we lost?
Offensively challenged team ices Boyle and Dorsett instead of someone who actually knows where the net is.
Rick Nash: if you are going to cut to the middle like you always do, you have to find a way to get your shot through.
Derek Stepan- third year in the playoffs and still a big fat zero
Torts: You gotta get McD off in that situation
DelZotto shoots...wide
Brad Richards- i think he suffered some kind of brain damage in the off season. His career seems to be over. Just a complete non-factor at both ends
Mike Sullivan- power play guru extraordinaire
Dan Girardi- no business on the PP, ever
Derick Brassard- brutal today
Captain Cally- just hitting everything in sight does not mean you are a leader. How about making some plays now and then around the net?
Coaches- team just not ready to play in the OT

Does anyone on the team look as flat and clueless like Richards does? Jebus christ, if he has any self-respect, he should ask his agent to negotiate a buyout off the record (get a bank account on thr Cayman Isles or something), officially retire and save face.

Very little criticism of Stepan considering he had a great season and the expectations were high going into the playoffs. A disappointment for sure.

I havent seen a post about the quote of the night from last nights games . i dont care what “that bug-eyed fat walrus” said.
wish we still had prust

Did anyone notice that Hagelin was a force until he was hit by Ovechkin, then was hurt/unable to skate. I also think Ovechkin went out of his way to knee him, it was a borderline dirty hit. Rangers were a one line offense after that. One line offenses never win.

Also, could he put Kreider in for Pyatt. Pyatt is always behind the play, can't skate, can't score, and he on Boyle on the ice for the 90 seconds before the McD penalty IMO led directly to the McD penalty.

Oh well, we are not winning anything with this power play. It is killing us.

Do I think we can still win this series? Well, yes, both of these games were ultimately winnable. But not with one goal off a Cap defenseman as the total for two games. And I think we have the coaching strategy (non-strategy?) to thank for that.
