Does anyone remember the regular season game against Pitt like 8 or 9 years ago where we won were in the locker room and they reviewed a goal and made the players come back out? We eneded up losing In OT. The NHL is my favorite sport but this bias is absolutely B.S. and bush league. This has been happening for years the Cally being slew foot by Cindy no call. The endless cheap shots by Malkin with no calls. If I was the NYR I would protest the game. There is no way this game should have gone to OT if the goal was disallowed on the ice I could somehow understand but to overturn a call so quickly..... against a home team in the playoffs come on...

You know that won't happen. The depth chart is the depth chart.

If Lindgren is out, Nemeth will play with Fox and Braun will play with Schneider.
Nemeth finally looked good in OT because everyone else was tired and slowed down. His decision making is trash, endless penalties Braun has played well put him in there at least.

Strome couldn't find the defensive zone on a map, Chytil has won seven faceoffs in his career, and Rooney sucks at everything.

The Rangers saying "we're not sure he's a center" is like Keith Richards saying "I'm not sure that should go up my nose."
Copp is a center. Winnipeg had circumstances pushing Copp to the wing.

Here? Gallant has no excuse. Strome is complete garbage. Can't win a face-off to save his life and he's not exactly a Selke candidate.

Copp is actually very good defensively and he's good on faceoffs.

This is all Gallant being a typical dinosaur old-boys club hockey coach unwilling to pull his own head out of his rear end and stop playing with his broken dysfunctional toys instead of using the brand new functional gift that Drury fed him on a silver platter.

Copp is exactly what this team needs in the middle with Panarin on the 2nd line.

I don't think Vatrano is the issue with the top line, but Kakko is the better player so I wouldn't mind seeing him get back up on that line or even putting Laf in that spot. I don't think you can move Chytil off that third line because he's the engine that gets that line into the offensive zone. I think moving Chytil up neuters the bottoms six. Mika and Kreider need to realize the regular season is over. We won't have a top line till that happens. Strome was probably the best player in the top six last game and that just can't continue to happen. If Mika and Kreider wake up the rangers should have an easy series the rest of the way.

Frustrating loss. Thought it was a good goal. Felt the Rangers made a mistake by not being more aggressive in OT, it seemed like the plan was just throw anything on net against the unready goalie, however that probably let him get into the game.

I really don't want to hear anymore about the disallowed goal.

They allowed a dude who was eating spicy pork 30 minutes prior to come in and go 17-17 on them. Stop bitching.

Shouldn't have even been in a position to come into the game.

People have every right to complain. It was a trash call that wouldn't have happened if the Pens did it.

you're not wrong in principle but the fact that this was a good goal on the ice but Toronto used phantom bullshit to overturn it is worth getting upset about. that is not a goal that gets overturned, not in these circumstances and not when you consider Kakko had literally nowhere else to go cause Dumolin is a pylon.

Not defending the call at all.

I'm more focused on getting shut out by 2 backups for almost an entire game after that.
DeSmith is probably Pittsburgh's best goalie. Jarry has been horrid against the Rangers and the playoffs. He giftwrapped the Islanders the series last year.

Agreed, I think it was the wrong call. It should have been a goal.

I'm just more focused on what came after that. I'm looking at "the play" rather than "a play".

Shit happens. Shoulda been a goal but turns into a gutting 3OT loss. Time for the boys to step up and make a statement in game 2. Well see the true character of this team.

Anyone saying the series is over has not seen much playoff hockey.

I know most here are salty over that disallowed goal, but I am also glad to see how assertive Kakko was on that play. So was Laf, who was closing in fast on the weakside. Chytil also deciding to put himself in a position to make a play and not do a flyby.

I hope that one play, even if it was ultimately nullified, have those three players wanting and expecting more out of themselves here on out. Hopefully, GG gives them more chances. Whether as a unit or spread around, just give them more 5v5 time.

Understood regarding Jarry, but he did post a .920 this season.

My issue is more about getting 17 shots on Domingue, a guy who played a whopping 2 games in the league this season, and failing to score.

If the disallowed goal was a tying goal or something, I'd feel more of a reason to be pissed off. I just can't get THAT livid when we had a waiver wire bum in there with pork grease on still on his hands and we couldn't beat him.

Man even the Let's Go Pens announcers thought it would stand. The push was slight, but enough to cause the minimal impact from KK, then 90% of the movement of the goalie out of the crease was from Pitt player!. Goal was called a good goal on the ice too. What a shit call.

And Trouba's 'boarding call' was soft AF, he held up, didn't push and just used his body to press firmly. Espedcially with it already being a 5 on 4 already. f*** that. But an elbow to Laf's face? Good to go playoff hockey!

Highlight was CK's headlock and him telling the ref just one more minute please, one more minute.

We need to hit the shit out of their D on the forecheck, but somehow maintain it throughout the game....

its exactly what that did. Foxy shot 2 meanless crap shots towards domingue which gave him a few warmup shots. Its like the rangers didnt want to score a fluke goal against the penguins, meanwhile the pens were like thanks we got this

If I can recall, it was a shootout in 2015-16. Dan Boyle scored and it was called back for some reason.

I still think this is ultimately a learning experience in a larger project and that's all well and good.

That being said, I need to have one whinge. I've had it before and I don't think it's exclusive to the Rangers but I need to say it again: I f***ing hate our lines. Absolutely hate them.

The bloom fell off of Vatrano's rose in like the second week of April. That line is hot ass. The Kid Line has no offensive bite to it - you've got two 20 year olds and a decent middle sixer in Chytil (the grizzled veteran at 22) and we expect who exactly to take the initiative? The Panarin line was, I thought, fine. Any time Copp is around, Panarin just seems to go "oh yeah, hockey!" and cut the nonsense, so maybe stick with that. Strome on that line, while not terrible if Copp is there, just seems like a waste to me. It's too many cooks in the kitchen when other lines need skill. The 4th line, don't even get me going.

The reality is, Strome and Panarin together played their best hockey before f***ing covid existed. Think about how long ago that is now. Vatrano, again, isn't working anymore on his line. It's certainly not just Gallant and maybe it's not even just the Rangers but I'm a Rangers fan on the Rangers board, so here we are -- the Rangers have a nasty habit of doing something for five years because it worked for five minutes. McDonagh-Girardi, anyone? We had a star defenseman with more playoff wins now than anyone and a guy who, say what you will, had a 13-year NHL career, and we sat there for what SIX(?) years and watched them become one of the least effective pairs to ever see significant minutes. Why do we do this? Is it a Rangers thing? Is it an NHL coaching thing? BTW, while I'm on pairings, Lindgren-Fox started growing something green on it in like October and we're still throwing it back into the fridge every night.

I get sticking with what you know because it could go bad, but you reach a point where it can't be worse. 20-93-77 is not a f***ing factor at 5v5 and haven't been for weeks and they're getting massive minutes to do nothing at best and get suplexed at worst, because they had like, three good games after the deadline.

Kreider-Zibanejad-Chytil
Panarin-Copp-Vatrano
Lafreniere-Strome-Kakko

I don't care what order it's in. You play 45 minutes at even strength, it should be 13/13/13 and HUNT(!!!!)-Goodrow-Reaves can have the other six. Rooney can sell popcorn.

Our best out and out center who does center things such as winning faceoffs (absolute mad lad) is Andrew Copp and he doesn't play center.

I said this 24 hours ago and got mocked but you are absolutely right.

The lines need to change (needed to change going into the series).

And it has f*** all to do with what "was working" and "what got us here."

Vatrano on the top line and the kid line isn't working. We won in spite of those things.

Was looking at some stats from last night and the line data from moneypuck falls in line with what I felt like I saw for the most part. That 1st line was awful, and hasn't worked for a while now. The kid line occasionally makes some decent plays(I think it might just be Kakko doing Kakko things), but that said I don't think the kid line has ever worked, even during the regular season that line's xG% was consistently in the 30s. 4th line is just lol but he didn't give them a ton of ice time at least. and hey big hits! Going forward we're going to need more then one line that works especially if we want to go on a run. Will be interesting to see if he shakes things up.

Looking at the faceoff data, because it felt like we were dominated... but NHL says we won 47% of them so idk. Only real issue with faceoffs was Chytil went 1/10 lol... doesn't help that line when he loses all 5 Ozone draws GG gives them. Also of note, Copp took 22 faceoffs to Strome's 12, but Strome actually won close to 70%, while Copp was more 50/50.

The Rangers played about as poorly as they can, got scored on on a questionable 5 on 3, had a late disallowed goal, ended up losing to an older experienced team in triple OT, and the lot of you are throwing up the white flag? I guess I’m living in fantasy land thinking it’s only up from here.

Also lost in that disallowed goal is that Kakko finally did what we all beg him to do and took the puck to the net. He and Laf both looked great.

We know this team isn’t winning the Cup this year. They will win this series though. And I am legitimately excited about next season already.

I don't think it's up from here at all, necessarily.

I thought they were going to win this series but after that performance last night I have to question that. I thought the path to even making this series tough on us would be Pittsburgh having to claw their way back leaning on their experience as the series wore on.

If we go in a hole I don't like our chances of surviving. Pitt will bury us if they get up.

Without being a literal must win, Game 2 is a must win.

It's flat out amazing how I was saying this yesterday but no one else was, and today literally everyone thinks we need to break up the lines.
