Young team that came out hot and was completely in control... and then... were literally gassed the rest of the way.

Pitt rope a doped us. Shesty is THE ONLY Reason we didn't lose in reg... the OTs were just pure exercise.

Bread shouldn't be playing... he's clearly hurt.

“The Blueshirts fell back into their habit of looking for the perfect play instead of getting the puck in deep or to the net. Neutral-zone turnovers resulted. Shots from the middle of the ice were passed up in favor of passes to more acute angles. Opportunities were missed”
Larry Legend

Not a big Brooks fan as a person but he's spot on.

Panarin and Strome were playing perimeter hockey again. A couple cross ice passes almost lost us the game earlier.

Not sure EXACTLY what deal is w/breadman, but even if w'o benefit of earlier NHL action this yr, Krav should be brought in as upgrade over Strome, who is not enuf, and let Strome sub for injured Panarin if he needs to sit/heal.

As to D
* Learn from effin mistakes
we played injured McDonagh and ultimately that bit us in the ass
if Lindy needs to sit, he sits until he is sufficiently [adequately] up to return

options include just promoting Jones
or
swing Fox to LD
keep KAM - Trouba
then Fox - Schneider
and either Nemeth-Nils L
or Jones - Braun
Post automatically merged:

technical factors aside, it was a largely even game as score/duration demonstrates.

We gave up like a dozen + more shots.
That gotta stop NOW

My morning after takes:

–the 4th line, 3rd pair, and 2nd line (to an extent) were big problems, as they were all season long.
–kid line will probably keep being used as the 4th line but it just can’t happen. They were the only line to make something happen every shift they were out there. Their continued sheltering in favor of that detrimental 4th line will lose us games.
–watching the Reaves line get fed O-zone starts was shades of AV feeding whatever line Tanner Glass was on O-zone starts.
–I thought Duomoulin did more to interfere with DeSmith than Kakko but whatev.
–still baffled by 1 Pitt penalty somehow.
–overall, we were easily the better team in the 1st and all 3 OTs IMO so if they can clean up some of the issues they had in 2 & 3 I think they’ll be fine.

The 4th line was at almost 90% of their shifts off a whistle starting from the offensive zone. He rightfully has no faith in them, so he tries to shelter them as best as he can, but the puck is out of the Pens zone right off the draw, and they are being buried deep within a few seconds, it’s a tough watch.

When he doesn’t have last change Saturday, he really needs to limit them to well under ten minutes, hopefully like 5-6 tbh.

If Kakko doesn't get pushed from behind into DeSmith I think he's tucking that one in.

I didn't read every single post but 14 pages and not one mention of the seas parting for Fox to snipe a game winner and he passes to Strome who gets handcuffed.

The Rangers played about as poorly as they can, got scored on on a questionable 5 on 3, had a late disallowed goal, ended up losing to an older experienced team in triple OT, and the lot of you are throwing up the white flag? I guess I’m living in fantasy land thinking it’s only up from here.

Also lost in that disallowed goal is that Kakko finally did what we all beg him to do and took the puck to the net. He and Laf both looked great.

We know this team isn’t winning the Cup this year. They will win this series though. And I am legitimately excited about next season already.

The Rangers having game 1 playoff losses to Pittsburgh with Jeff Zatkoff and Louis Domingue as the winning goalies is certainly something.

I don't think "muh perimeter" was the problem. Larry will say that after literally any loss and has the audacity to talk about falling back on the old tricks.

The problems were 1) we gassed ourselves which you chalk up to inexperience and 2) 20-93-77 were getting absolutely strangled all night and Gallant proceeded to give them 30 minutes of 5v5 action.

My rational take: If this is game 5 or 6 it's a back breaker. We're probably split going into Game 5 and then it's in the past. The Rangers take care of their defensive lapses/refs calm down, we can easily have a comfortable win Game 2 and take the momentum back.

Every sport has interpretation calls. What your suggesting isn't possible.
And every other sport is more definitive than what this bush league has.

The NFL completely changed what a receiving touchdown is after years of interpretation, so yes it is possible DOBO boy.

WTF is Gerard Gallant trying to say here regarding disallowed goal ?

“No, I’d like to say I do [have an issue with it],” head coach Gerard Gallant said after the loss. “But you know what, it was going the other way in a 3-3 hockey game and to me, it was 50-50 call, and I sort of felt it was going to go against us. I can’t argue with that.”
NYP
That he doesn't have an issue with the call.

They came out like a wrecking ball, hitting everything in site. I think once the adrenaline wore off they couldn’t handle the Pens counterattack. Shesty kept them in this as long as he could, not one bad critique about him on my mind, dude stood tall and showed why he will win the Vezina this season.

They lost that 2nd period which was the pivotal point of the game. I think this win was a result of a more experienced playoff team vs an inexperienced playoff team, and not even going to blame the reffing. There really is no excuses this team is stacked with skill and talent, should be able to overcome some bad ref decisions.
PIT being on the PP 26% of the 1st 30 mins of the game, including a 5v3, didn't help and sapped their momentum.

Call our issues whatever people want to, but we just don't quite have it in my eye test, especially when compared to watching other teams and other games. Some call it perimeter, some call it being too unselfish, some say players are clearly injured. I can't describe it other than a lack of killer instinct, that killer instinct to put away a scoring opportunity, to not ease off the gas pedal, etc. It's only one game, and it's a young team, so I still have hope.

I think part of the problem is we put all the shooters together on a line, all the playmakers together on a line, and all the jam together on a line.

They can shoot. Fox was proof. Instead they pass it up, thinking there's a better opportunity if they make another pass, then it'll be a tip in or a slam dunk into an open net. It doesn't need to be this way 99% of your plays. Playoff hockey needs to be as ugly as it is pretty. They demand pretty all the time.

They weren't pretty in the 1st period. They gassed themselves.

I have no problem with the pass Fox made in OT. It was a tap-in goal. Strome is in an inbred onion.
