As is a tradition of mine on day one of playoffs, I'm watching some older playoff matchups and reminding myself of series past, mostly from 2010 on.

One common thread of all successful teams, even those coming back from down 3-1 in the series etc has been a punishing defense. A consistent and committed effort to make the life of opposing forwards miserable.

There is no substitution come playoffs for hard, physical D. This is where the Leafs with McCabe, Edmunson and the Boosh in particular, need to make their presence known. Reilly and Lilly or whomever will be the #6 will feed off of it as well.

This Bruins team isn't as deep up front, making it difficult for their 2-3 scoring threats is absolutely critical to success. Critical.

Depends which Sammy shows up, and whether Woll continues to let in first shots. If they both play up to their potential and the D actually defends the Leafs will have a chance………
It won't be a series decided by goaltending in the way Bob did for Florida in rounds 2 and 3 last year. Instead, I think this one will be a series of low-scoring, close games, most of which will go to OT, and I think the Leafs will win because of their ability to generate offensive chances. The goalie factor is a red herring. Neither team will win or lose this series based on goaltending.

Completely disagree, so we’ll see………

3 of our starting 6 D are adds this year and a 4th didn't start the playoffs last year.

The word on the streets is Bergeron, Krejci, Rask and Chara will call it quits if Boston loses..

2011-2023 Boston died last year. It should be clear that this is the new iteration.

Their forward depth can't compete with ours, but their 3rd pair D eats our 1st pair D lunch, something we seem to ignore. Plus they have goalies ( two of them).

It will be fun, but not sure why this is the year Boston should die. They went all in last year, lost two core players and replaced them with no one ( just paying cap hits for DK and Bergy).

Bruins won't be easier to play against next year. This is the Bruins bottoming ...

Ya, but they still have hope that they can keep the ball rolling. Another 1st round exit in as embarassing fashion as last year will kill this bruins team once and for all

Heads will roll in beantown if they lose in the first round, Boston doesn’t tolerate failure like your Maple Leafs……..

I thought the same, but now I'm wondering if they hold off on firing Montgomery so that they don't repeat the Cassidy experience (i.e., Montgomery winning a Cup with another team shortly thereafter). Maybe Boston keeps him on the basis that this is a resetting year for the Bruins while they wait for a bit more cap space to open up this summer.
