My ... Any sports journalist's dream sequence that begins with the notion: "Minor-league hockey is a hit in Louisiana" should be taken with a mouthful of salt. The current Baton Rouge & Monroe hockey markets are too immature (beginning of 2nd season in BR, inaugural season for the Moccs) to make such a bold pronouncement. Further, FPHL (not equal to) ECHL when it comes to establishing a seemingly successful minor pro hockey team. While the ECHL is clearly on a mission to grow to a 32-team league, placing a team in Southern Texas just doesn't seem like a positive strategic decision by the BOG.

Since the AHL Aeros left Houston, this is the 3rd time I can remember talk of a new arena which would host a professional hockey team in the Houston area. Montgomery County (north of Houston), Pasadena (southeast of Houston), and now this proposed arena in League City in Galveston County. The 5,000 seat arena in Montgomery County never got off the ground. The 6,000 seat arena in Pasadena, which reportedly received interest from the AHL, also never got off the ground. Although this arena never materialized, a second attempt at a 7,500 seat arena in Pasadena, has now broken ground and is scheduled to open in late 2025. Unfortunately, at this time no mention of a professional hockey team playing there has been made. So that leaves us with this latest attempt at bringing a professional hockey team to the Houston. I wish them luck, but based on past experiences, I'll believe it when I see it.

Honestly, filling out on the West Coast or Rockies is probably ideal rather than putting a team in an area where it would be isolated (the Gulf Coast).

They wanted to brand the on-line news product "CHRONic", but the unregulated hemp products industry in Texas got it blocked by a state judge who had a light docket.

It's more that it's the tabloid version of the Houston Chronicle, who operates it. Whereas the Chronicle requires a subscription to read anything on its website and still by and large operates under broadsheet rules, the CHRON is free and focuses more on sensationalism to get the ad revenue.

Another attempt at MAYBE bringing a pro hockey team to Houston, this time at NRG Arena, next door to NRG Stadium, where the Houston Texans play. 8,500 capacity would be big enough for the AHL, IF they put an NHL regulation ice rink in, as stated in the last paragraph.
