Scratching Kakko to have Rooney and Hunt in the lineup is just absurd. Even if you don’t like Kakko you have to admit that.

I can’t imagine what Gallant is thinking. Going into an elimination game with this lineup intentionally makes no sense. Kakko isn’t lighting it up but he was 1/3 of the only like to do anything at 5v5 in this series, scratching him makes zero sense.

I don't agree with the decision but the line has 7 shots and no goals in the last 3 games. They haven't exactly been doing much. It's not the end of the world. He likely would have been in for 10 mins with no special teams. Presumably he wants Rooney for an extra PK/insurance if Strome can't continue and Hunt to add physical play in a 4th line role.

Scratch Rooney, shift Goodrow to his spot and put Kakko in Goodrow's spot and I actually like the lines.

But we're playing the absolutely useless Rooney ahead of one of our best puck possession players in Kakko instead.

I believe it was Edge who kept repeating Gallant will be a good coach but he won't be the coach we win with.
