Briere has had some success in the playoffs because he's been on the 4th line, not in spite of it. He gets to exploit weaker matchups. Put him on the first line with a fellow smurf and the floating Max and nothing will come of it.

There's just no figuring out what goes through Therrien's head some days, is there?

So Bournival has passed Eller on the depth chart?

MT just doesn't like Eller, it's absurd.

I also love how he waits until the last possible game of the year to put Vanek at LW, his original position.

I think MT is trying to give Vanek two guys who work extremely hard and who will give their all to dig pucks out for him

I kind of like it...

Either way...I don't really care about the lines, the team has looked like horse **** the entire series except for a few games here and there, I have no problem with the coach switching things up.

Personally, I've got no doubt that they're going to win this game...the series is another story, but they're not losing this game

Vanek would have been the NHL leading scorer by now if he started the playoffs on the 4th line.

Eller works extremely hard and digs out pucks just put him there considering Bournival hasn't played centre almost the entire season. What does Eller need to do to get top 6 wingers? A rookie who hasn't played centre all season got two top 6 wingers before Eller, that's so upsetting, even more so when he leads the forwards in points in the playoffs.

Also, why did he wait until his back was against the wall to put Vanek back at LW. The last time he played there was the third game after the team acquired him.

The coaching decisions are mind boggling. The team's least productive centre is getting the most offensive opportunities and best linemates, while the team's most productive centre has gotten his role reduced, ice-time reduced and gets the bottom 6 wingers.

That can't possibly be our lines. Bournival at center? With better wingers than Eller? Briere on the first line, with DD?

And Vanek is now put in a situation where he's clearly the sniper, yet we all know this guy doesn't snipe anymore because of an hypothetical upper body injury?

Anyways, we know he's gonna reshuffle that midway through the first period but damn, this looks bad.

Either way, not sure about that one. :help:

Yet here the Habs are in the Eastern Conference Finals...again, I know as fans we like to think that these minute details such as line combinations can affect whether or not the Habs will win. But it really doesn't, and MT switches up his lines so often during a game, combing through these line combos is a pretty futile exercise.

If the habs are down 3-1 in this series, it's because they've played like crap...they haven't come close to playing a good game yet, sure, the coaching staff can be blamed for that, but the players bear the brunt of that responsibility IMO.

Atrocious lines if true. Dear god.

Therrien has rarely kept his lines intact -- he tends to shuffle as game situations evolve. Does it really matter what line combos MT might be using during practises, esp. in the playoffs?

Great looking GDT, those hand drawn ones are usually the best.

Keys to winning: No Gionta on the top 6, Beaulieu in for Bouillon, re-unite the EGG line and Vanek with DD and Pacs. Why is that so hard for MT to figure out? Seems everyone here agrees.

Let's go red, here we go boys. Dusty Tokes.'

Can't demand from them to win 3 in a row with a rookie goalie, but just a Game 6 would be nice. :handclap:

Per @mmcguirehockey, #Habs *could* roll:
Pacioretty-DD-Briere
Galchenyuk-Plekanec-Gionta
Vanek-Bournival-Gallagher
Bourque-Eller-Weise

Pacioretty - Desharnais - Galchenyuk
Bourque - Plekanec - Gallagher
Vanek - Eller - Gionta
Bournival - Briere - Weise

- Galchenyuk needs more o-zone starts, it's ridiculous starting him in the D-Zone as much as Plekanec. Only way to achieve this is moving him to Pac-DD line. Pacioretty-Desharnais have been with eachother forever, adding Galchenyuk is new but nothing game changing to make them lost.

- I like the idea of putting Vanek back to LW, but try him with Eller. Also, put Gionta back with him. I think both worked best with eachother. Vanek is a bit new but Eller-Gionta is a proven duo so shouldn't really result in big confusions.

- Gallagher/Plekanec were pretty good together before they were split up for getting Pacioretty/Desharnais going. Bourque hopefully tries and complements them. Nothing really new here, Plekanec has played with these guys several times over the past years.

- Briere/Weise have connected for so many chances. Being on the 4th line gives Briere soft competition and makes him deadly. Weise seems to complement him well. This line has been together before and proven.

On the PP, run 3 lines. Go with the hot hand. Split up Pacioretty - Desharnais.

Vanek - Desharnais - Galchenyuk
Eller/Gallagher/Briere - Plekanec - Pacioretty
