I was responding to this

Do you disagree that both CDH and Boychuk are top4 defensemen?

No, they are. But neither are the type of player we need at this point. We need a Nick Leddy type, a puck mover. Another shut down guy like CDH or even a well balanced guy like Boychuk aren't really the pieces we need to be shopping for.

The Oilers can't afford to give up a RW for anything short of an overpayment. No way in hell that Kassian will be in the top 6

Eberle does fit a need, for sure. However, it doesn't seem like Snow is interested in Eberle. Staple has insinuated this numerous times and there was a rumor that Snow had turned down Eberle for Hamonic at the peak of the Hamonic rumors. I would like him, but I'm not giving up deHaan. MDC and a 1st? I'd think about it. He'd be a great fit with Tavares and Ladd.

I also believe that Ho-Sang can fill what would be Eberle's spot not this year but the year after that. Eberle has too high of a cap hit to want to take on that contract.

Do you mean a puck rusher? Because Calvin de Haan is absolutely a puck moving defenseman. Leddy is more of a rushing D that will carry the puck in and join the play.

I think we are getting into semantics here, but to me the type of puck mover we need has to have the ability to either rush the puck out or pass it out effectively to rushing forwards. To me it takes more than a solid breakout pass to be a good puck mover, although that is certainly a part of the package. We have had guys recently who I would consider having a decent breakout pass, Klefbom, Sekera, Schultz when he wasn't being a dumbass. But we haven't had a good all around puck mover who could hit the pass and skate it out when needed since Ryan Whitney lost his mobility with his defective foot.

Eberle + sekera + 2017 first for
Hamonic

We know that there are 7.5 to 13.5 shots in the HSCA (area were 8.5 to 20% success shots.) ie. above league average.

so you kind of want top 60 HSCAD.

Last year the oilers had
klefbom
1st comp Top 60 HSCA D (10.12 shots)
missed 52 games
.
Davidson
2nd comp top 35 HSCA D (9.68 shots)
#32 D 1.85 GA/60
missed 31 games.

As a result
Sekera
top 10 HSCAD facing 2nd comp (8.00 shots)
2.05 EVGA/60
had to play
1st comp were he is a bottom 40 HSCAD (12.13 shots)
2.59 EVGA/60

Fayne partnered with Sekera who dragged down his HSCA (12.15) and SA/60 results.

oilers were forced to play:
4 bottom 20 HSCA D 13.00+ HSC shots
reinhart 2nd comp 29Gm 2.77 EVGA/60
Nurse 2nd comp 69gm 2.91 EVGA/60
Gryba 3rd comp 53gm
Schultz 3rd comp 45gm 2.82 EVGA/60
As you can see poor HSC SA D have poor GA/60

Last year
Travis hamonic is a
bottom 60 HSCA D
28.95 SA/60 #120 D #4/5 d results.
2.35 EVGA/60 #160 D #6 d results.

So harmonic does face 1st comp but his
bottom pairing Shot and GA suppression is not what PC was after.

His idea of a #1 D is not #10 fwd level scoting from the top 30 off d.

He wanted elite Shot suppression and GA that you see from D men like Pronger; Lidstrom; Chara; Weber; Hjarlmasson; Doughty.

So what did we get in Larsson?
Adam Larsson
faces the 15th highest comp
toughest ZS in the league.
top 10 HSCA D
#5 D 25.02 SA/60
#2 EVGA D
#4 PKGA d in game

your bottom end shot suppression and GA D does not fit what PC was chasing.

you look at top 40 HSCAD;
with elite shot suppression
you end up with some of the best EVGA d in the game:
K. Miller 2nd comp #1 1.56 EVGA/60
Larsson upr 1st comp #2 1.58
Parayko 3rd comp #3 1.62
Martinez 3rd comp #4 1.66 cup winner
Cole 3rd comp #5 1.68 cup winner
Brodin upr 2nd comp #6 1.74
Niskanen bot 1st comp #6 1.74
Manson 1st comp #8 1.75
Kindl bot 3rd comp #8 1.75
Doughty upr 2nd comp #10 1.76

Davidson 2nd comp #32 D 1.85 EVGA/60

boychuk bot 1st comp #33 D 1.86 EVGA/60
Leddy 2.14
De Haan 2.27
Hamonic 2.35
Hickey 2.60
Pulock 2.94

PC wants Dman that defend the HSC area and get the puck as quickly to the top 9-10 forwards that out produce the bestop 10 off d in the league.

In the fast league you do not want Dmen sakting up the puck cause it allows the opposition toreset its defence.
you want quick thinking transition passes to highly mobile forwards that do not allow defensive resets.
making it easier to get shots in the above league average success area. HSCA

Pretty confident in your upcoming season. Nice! I would take your first and those bits.

I guess we can both rest easy then since both Harmonic and Hamonic won't be getting traded.

He's from Edmonton though, so I think there's a shot

I know he is from Edmonton. I would still be surprised if he uprooted his young family and waived.
If he had wanted to play elsewhere, he would have at least tested the ufa market. Instead he signed before even reaching July 1st.
