Just curious, what is the Madden draft/development like compared to NHL?

In Madden you can trade at any time during the draft. The studs are up front of course, but there's also late round picks who shine. And there's no phones. Teams can offer you trades. And the trades are centered around players and picks. This how the trades feel to me in NHL

NHL Trade
SJS- Pavelski FOR PIT James Neal
2nd 1st for 2014 and 2015

Madden trades are something more realistic (Using an example with NHL players.)

SJS-Pavelski FOR PIT Brandon Sutter and picks. One 1st.
OR a 2nd and 3rd

Sounds pretty good. I wish you could find impact players or even future NHLers in the later rounds

The Best I've found in the 7th round in this game was a 3.5 yellow once. I found a couple 3 red too, but more times than not I bust those late rounds like everybody else

Man San Jose drafted this guy first overall in 2018, 5 star potential, 80 overall right after going first. He's in his 3rd year now, 94 overall making nearly 12 million a season

Not sure if anyone saw 2BC Production's roster updates, where he adjusted the overalls of many players - I followed most of his changes and then started up a new GM with the Islanders.

It's turning out a lot more realistic a simulation now.

I started to but then decided I'm not spending nearly 3 hours watching a guy just edit rosters.

Same and to me his edits were barely going to change the GM simulation. Increasing/decreasing the overalls of a few players on each team by 1 or 2 really won't make much of a difference. Its nice that he did it but it takes a lot more editing than that.

It took me an hour to do - once I got an idea of what he was trying to do, I just went ahead and made my own changes. Went back after to see what he did, and turns out most of the things I did were identical to his.

You'd be surprised - I'm 2 seasons in and it plays a hell of a lot better now than it did before.

The standings make much more sense (no more Phoenix vs Calgary Western Conference final), and player production is far more in-line with what it should be.

Changing the overall of a few players on a team, changes the overall of that team, which changes how they play and where they finish. It's all linked together.

End of regular season review.

Young guns such as Alex Galchenyuk, Lars Eller, Max Pacioretty and P.K Subban played with a fire under themselves all season long. Veterans looked to help the growth of up and comers but failed to make the grade on the score sheet leading to a 41-35-6 season finish.
GM Habo had this to say, "We are a young team growing into our own identity, step by step we work to insure that we can build ourselves into the winning formula." He would go on to stress the importance of team efforts and playing 60 minute hockey every night. "We are a team that battled hard every game. A team that worked for our wins but a team younger in experience in the top 9. Everyday is a new step, everyday we learn and every year we look to be more forceful than the year prior."

Many players found their way to the score sheet this season while some fell off track. Let us take a look at some points in each case.

Best

Max Pacioretty 32g 46a 78pts

Alex Galchenyuk 25g 40a 75pts

Tomas Plekanec 23g 38a 61pts

Lars Eller 20g 37a 57pts

P.K Subban 11g 42a 53pts

Worst

Brian Gionta 11g 10a 22pts

Rene Bourque 26g 13a 39pts

Peter Budaj 2W 13L .864% 3.42GAA

It boggles my mind that a few people(Petr Puck, Simple Math(os), etc.) using the internet and watching games can rate the players better than a multi-million dollar gaming company so that it is close to life ratings and creates a realistic experience. I get the occasional surprise team and such, but when elite.teams miss the playoffs and a team that has been crap.immediately wins a Cup it takes away from the game.

Oh I know. Just destroys the level of immersion that the mode tries to provide.

That's why I went ahead and took the time to make the changes myself. Firstly, because it bothers me a lot when players end up being far better/worse in the simulation than they actually are, and secondly, because it provides a far more accurate simulation experience now that I've done it.

I totally agree. I wish they would take a page from 2k and use a roster share thing.

It's been such a commonly requested feature, that I'm quite surprised EA Sports haven't put it in yet.

If I'm a betting man, my guess is that the first NHL game that releases on the next gen consoles will have this feature.

It'll never happen. EA makes bank because people are willing to shell out $60/year for a roster update and a tiny bit of polish; if everyone can just download NHL15s rosters to NHL14, how many customers do you think they'll lose? There are already people who only buy every 2nd or 3rd iteration, and I bet that number goes up pretty significantly if everyone can just download shiny new rosters in 30 seconds or less.

Its very possible actually. I know I always compare this to Madden, but its new this year in Madden so with EA Vancouver being themselves it will be in three years :shakehead.

Has anyone tried using these ratings for their GM click link to see what I am talking about
http://www.operationsports.com/forums/ea-sports-nhl-rosters/652691-nhl-14-revamped.html

The one they've released is just a beta so people can see how they're coming along with it. They're still working on the full version, with another beta set to be released some time this weekend.. and pending the review of that is when they'll release the full version, though it's looking like next week for it.

I've used their rosters for the past 3 games, always enjoyed them much more than what EA gives. The potentials they give are more realistic than the ones EA does. Players end up being drafted roughly where they're projected to be IRL.

Is there any sense in trying to build a good team in this game? Simulation results are awful.

Yes.

Plenty of sense.

You just need to understand how it works, why your roster is struggling, and how to fix it.

If you break down the simulation of a season into months, or a period of 6 weeks (from scout visit to scout visit), then analyze your team's stats (GFPG, GAPG, PP%, PK%, etc)., as well as individual stats, it's pretty easy to identify where and how your team is struggling.

The fun part of Be a GM is knowing how to correct those struggles.

But in short - yes, there's plenty of sense in the way the simulation engine works. Just need to understand the system.

I find when your team is too stacked, the individual stats of your players are usually really low and my team never seems to do that good. When I play, my team and individual players do best when I have a lower overall player (usually a young gun) alongside two higher overall players.

I usually have a Vet who compliments my prospects skill set on each AHL line, and make sure to put NHL players in position to succeed ( play players in their role with players that compliment them) and I have had great success in simulation results both with wins and player growth.

The key is to have players that compliment others and play them in their role.
