A very interesting draft for the Devils (not as good as the post above :amazed:).

First, a trade had been made (smaller trades involving late picks not included);

:devils
Mike Green
2nd (2015)

:caps
Travis Zajac
Ryan Kujawinski

After trading away a dman for Stastny at the deadline, and the Caps adding Gonchar before the the first round of the draft, this trade works great for both teams.

Now to the draft! With the second overall pick, the Devils are proud to select from the Kootenay Ice, C Sam Reinhart! The trading of Zajac, and to a lesser extent Kujawinski, opened up a hole in my centre depth. Perfect pick.

(Draft number) - (player) (overall, potential #/colour)

2nd - C Sam Reinhart (71, 4.5y)

25th - G Trevor Corvo (74, 4.5y, age 19, 6'7"!)

31st - D Anthony DeAngelo (63, 4y)

61st - D Mikael Seppälä (67, 3.5y)

73rd - RW Sandro Zangger (59, 3.5r)

99th - C Alexandre Goulet (53, 3.5r)

104th - D Martin Bobos (56, 2.5g)

121st - C Jake Marchment (54, 3y)

151st - G Daniel Gibl (51, 2.5y)

pretty good draft I'd say, wouldn't you?

Off the top of my head, all I can say is wow.

Ekblad (88 OVR or higher), Bennett (85 OVR or higher), Nylander (84 OVR with insane offensive attributes or higher), Mistele (85 OVR or higher [PPG PWF]), Honka (84 OVR).

Damn dude. You're going to be set forever. These guys were all money in my current dynasty. I don't have Ekblad or Bennett but they're great on other teams. Nylander is on my second line (82) with Spezza (87) and at over a PPG... something like 40 points in 30 games. Mistele is on my first line with Betts (95 OVR generational PWF) and MacKinnon (90 OVR) and putting up PPG numbers (signed at 5.5M for 3 more years). Honka (84) constantly puts up 40 points a year with high +-.

Capitals Acquire Mike Cammalleri from Flames

dynamic_resize

Wayne Gretzky has announced that the team has acquired right winger Mike Cammalleri and center Joe Colborne from the Calgary Flames in exchange for Marcus Johansson, Michael Latta, and the Capitals 2014 1st Round Pick.

The Washington Capitals currently sit 5th in the Metro Division, and sit 7 points out of a playoff spot. The team holds a 15-15-3 record. The Capitals, despite having Superstar scorer Alex Ovechkin are ranked 18 of 30 teams in terms of goals for, scoring 86 goals in 33 games. Bringing in Cammalleri should increase the offensive output and make the leagues 2nd best powerplay even more deadly.

Cammalleri has played in all 33 games this year, notching 13 goals and 28 points. Joe Colborne has also played in all 33 games this season, but has notched just 3 goals and 5 points. Cammalleri is expected to play on the top line with Ovechkin and Backstrom to start, but could swap places with Evgeny Kuznetsov, who was on that line before the deal. Joe Colborne is expected to be the 4th line center.

Gretzky also announced the team has dealt Jack Hillen, Aaron Volpatti, David Leggio 2014 3rd and 2015 4th to the Los Angeles Kings for Jacob Muzzin and Maxim Kitsyn

Haha trust me, I was just as surprised!!
I had #1 overall so either Ekblad or Reinhart were a lock at 1. I saw Bennett there and I took a chance because I've seen him be 4.5 stars sometimes too.
Nylander at 25 was an obvious choice! :P
and the goalie i was debating on, ending up trading him for the goalie i was gonna take but miss clicked. :P
and i saw Matt Mistele sitting there with white 4.5 stars at 31 so that was a no brainer too :P
basically I'm set now for life pretty much, just gotta watch out my cap situation :p:

Capitals Still Outside Looking In As Trade Deadline Passes

grabovski-mikhail.jpg

Mikhail Grabovski got traded to the Ottawa Senators

The Washington Capitals sit 11 points out of a playoff spot as the 3pm Trade Deadline came and gone, and if they have any hope at a playoff spot they need to start playing their best hockey starting tonight against the Flyers, and tomorrow against the Bruins.

The Capitals did make some moves though, as they dealt Brooks Laich, retaining 500K, to the Coyotes in exchange for prospect Andrew MacWilliam along with two 2014 2nd round picks (TOR/PHX). Coyotes dealt Derek Morris and Jeff Halpern to Toronto earlier in the season for MacWilliam and the 2nd, along with Tyler Biggs.

The Capitals also dealt pending UFA Mikhail Grabovski to the Ottawa Senators for Zach Smith and a 2015 2nd round pick. In 62 games this season Grabovski has 17 goals but just 36 points. In Ottawa Grabovski will be reunited with former Toronto linemate Clarke MacArthur. Zach Smith has put up 26 points in 62 games on the Senators third line this season.

Washington made one final day on the day, dealing Joel Ward and prospect Joel Rechlicz to the Montreal Canadiens for Martin St Pierre, Christian Thomas and a 2014 3rd Round Pick.

We will update again at the end of the 2020/21 season.

So my #1 D and my #2 Center retired. After getting taken out by the same Tampa Bay team for the past three post seasons I decided to trade away a franchise cornerstone in 89 overall John Liston, a conn Smythe winning sniper drafted by me. In exchange I received two first round picks from the hapless edmonton oilers who have continued to finish in bottom five for the past 5 seasons.

The following year the 2026-2027 draft projected Lucas Suter a defensive defenseman to go 5th overall. In need of a defenseman I took him at #3, he is 84 overall 4.5 yellow stars.

Going into the season he is 86 overall and will most likely be playing top line minutes in the NHL with another promising prospect.

I'm excited to see how he develops-- this gm mode is reaching it's limit so a quick development could put me right back into the cup mix.
