I had Nurse, and Klefbom come through mine today. I would have felt evil if I had taken them, though I was tempted.

Damn dude, that's some restraint right there! :amazed:
I claimed him as a reclamation project, hopefully he'll turn into something for me, but Tampa is STACKED on the RW in my mode right now, they literally had no where to play him, so i claimed him.

In that GM I have built from the draft alone, no trades, no waivers though I can loose a guy in waivers, and no free agents. I have to use what the draft gives me, or I would have taken Nurse. I am missing a 2 top 6 D men, nothing has come up in the draft and all I have off the top two D-lines are depth type guys on the back end

wow, thats definitely a challenge!! it must have been painful to lose so much, but when you win, it'll be so much more satisfying winning with all home grown talent.

Its all starting to click now, in 2020/21 had a 56 games won, and the top 2 guys in the league in points are on my top line. Also Top goalie in the leauge

oh wow! nice! It's always so rewarding eh? :) is this the first year your team has been this good?

Ya made the playoffs last year but got knocked out bye the flames in the first round. Just search the board for the write up on it, its the Louisville Knockout Write up. Got lucky in the drafts too. Picked a Left wing named Ulf Franzen as the second pick overall, he was supposed to go top 10 but I needed a left wing so I took him and he has been Franchise since I got him. Got him locked up long term

Yeah I've been reading a few of them and you got really lucky with that Ulf Franzen guy! :P

Mathew Barzal has been totally Dominating Conner McDavid too. McDavid was gone so I took him at 2, He has been the better player so far when he stays healthy. He just put up a 95 point season for me.

A tip to everybody who has a low cap:

Always make sure that you are above the minimum salary cap before the year begins as it will automatically increase the salary of your top players.

Example, I signed Nylander to a 8 year, 4.75m/year and I was below cap, which as a complete steal considering he's 88 ovr first year into his deal. During the season I checked out my contracts, he's at a 7.75m/year for 8 years, 3 million more than I signed him for! This happened for many of my other players. Luckily I wasn't too far in and was able to go back to the pre-season and sign some players to a one year 10m+ just to get to the minimum cap.

Hope this helps some people!

The Nashville Times
6-10-2014

With the 2013-14 season officially coming to a close, it now becomes time for teams to prepare for the upcoming NHL Entry Draft.

For the Nashville Predators, while the Draft is of utmost importance, there is lots to do before that day.

Following the last game of the playoffs, the Preds relieved GM David Poile, assistant GM Paul Fenton, and head coach Barry Trotz of their roles. After another year out of the playoffs and a middling draft pick in a relatively weak draft year, ownership has finally had enough. The demand in Nashville for an entertaining, offensive system is higher than ever, and it seems that the time for change is now.

The Predators have wasted no time, however, in filling vacant roles. Former President and CEO of Hockey Canada Bob Nicholson has been hired to be the club's new President of Hockey Operations. A search for a new GM and a new head coach has begun. According to TSN's Bob McKenzie, the Predators are exploring a number of options, including Wayne Gretzky, Jim Benning, Pat LaFontaine, Darcy Regier, and Gary Suter. There are plenty of head coaching candidates as well, as the Predators are reportedly looking at Peter Laviolette, Troy Ward, Derek Laxdal, and Kevin Dineen.

[fieldset="General Managers"]
Wayne Gretzky: The Great One has been out of the hockey scene for a few years ever since stepping down as head coach of the Phoenix Coyotes. His hockey mind is second to none, however, and he should be able to breathe some fresh life into the Predators. Important to note that he has never been the GM of an NHL team before.

Jim Benning: Benning has learned under Boston Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli since 2006 and helped the Bruins claim the Stanley Cup in 2011. This would be his first crack at managing an NHL team, but with Chiarelli as a mentor, Predators fans should feel confident with him at the helm.

Pat LaFontaine: LaFontaine has been in and out of the news as of late. After a 3-month stint as GM of the Buffalo Sabres, LaFontaine chose to sever his relationship with the Sabres and continue his employment with MSG Network. His keen eye for talent will not be wasted in Nashville. As arguably the best American NHL player of all time, LaFontaine brings an unmatched air of experience and respectability to the table.

Darcy Regier: LaFontaine's immediate predecessor, Darcy Regier is reportedly itching to get back in the driver's seat of an NHL club. He was GM of the Buffalo Sabres from 1997 to 2013 and displayed his prowess at drafting impact players. He led the Sabres to the Stanley Cup Finals in 1999-99 (losing to the Dallas Stars), back-to-back Eastern Conference Finals in 2005-06 and 2006-07, and a Presidents Trophy in 2006-07. His poor handling of the Sabres during their regression led to his being fired by the organization, but his experience and success is unmatched.

Gary Suter: There is very little to be said about Suter. Beyond the relation between his nephew Ryan, the former Preds defender, there is not a lot of information on Suter or his managerial experience. One has to think that the primary reason for approaching Gary Suter would be to draw Ryan back to Nashville in some way. Do not expect him to be a main candidate for the job.
[/fieldset]

[fieldset="Head Coaches"]
Peter Laviolette: Fired from his role in Philadelphia earlier this season, "Lavi" employs a high-scoring offensive system that could see the Predators' goal totals improve by leaps and bounds. There is also somewhat of a past connection between the Flyers and Predators - particularly the Peter Forsberg deal back in 2007. Don't be surprised if something happens here.

Troy Ward: Ward is currently head coach of the Abbotsford Heat, the AHL affiliate of the Calgary Flames. Ward is very much a master of doing more with less, as he routinely takes the Heat to the Calder Cup Playoffs with a constantly changing roster. It's only a matter of time before he brings his skills to the NHL, but with a system that places less emphasis on offense, one has to wonder if his chance will come in Nashville.

Derek Laxdal: Laxdal is the head coach of the WHL's Edmonton Oil Kings. The Oil Kings churn out quality players to the NHL every draft year, and a large portion of the credit goes to Derek Laxdal, who once again has taken the Oil Kings to the Mastercard Memorial Cup Championships. Whether Laxdal wants to leave his comfortable position to take a swing at an NHL job remains a question though.

Kevin Dineen: A man of many accomplishments, Dineen deserves many accolades given his recent coaching performances. After taking the Florida Panthers to their first Southeast Division championship and pushing the New Jersey Devils to 7 games in the first round in 2012-13, Dineen was (some might say) unjustly let go by the Panthers as the team under-performed in 2013-14. He didn't miss a beat, however, securing the head coaching job of Team Canada's women's national hockey team for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi. Dineen led the women to their fourth consecutive Olympic gold medal. He will be back in the NHL before too long.
[/fieldset]

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Preds have eliminated Regier and Suter from GM search. Laxdal out in hunt for head coach.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: In player news, Preds ownership interested in dealing 1st rd pick for help up front. New GM will have final say tho.

@TSNBobMcKenzie: Preds pres Bob Nicholson inquiring abt Richards in LA, Malkin in Pitt, Nash in NY. All good offensive players.

Great write ups, enjoying these. I'm in the 4th year of my Dynasty with the Leafs. I'm gonna do a small write up later tonight. Keep em coming!

Preds get their Guys - New GM and Coach Announced
6-15-2014 | The Nashville Times

The Nashville Predators called a press conference Sunday afternoon to announce the hiring of Pat LaFontaine as General Manager, and Peter Laviolette as Head Coach.

The decision comes on the heels of last week's announcement that the team was seeking new leadership as it enters a new era that embraces the offensive side of the game.

"I'm excited to get to work," said LaFontaine in the press conference. "This team has a lot of good pieces in place, ones that we can work with moving forward, but there's lots of work to do. Peter and I will work hard and do our very best to bring a Stanley Cup to Nashville."

"I always like to evaluate the talent in place when I start coaching a new team, "said Laviolette. "There are some really good players here. Pekka Rinne in goal is a great back bone for this team. Everyone knows about this organization's ability to develop defensemen. Ryan Ellis, Roman Josi, Seth Jones, Shea Weber obviously. That's a very good core that we have to build around. And up front, there's definitely potential in guys like Patric Hornqvist, Craig Smith, and Colin Wilson. I know that Bob [Nicholson] and Pat have been looking at all sorts of moves that can be made to help us out, in all areas. We don't want the fans to get too ahead of themselves, but we want them to be excited about the future. We're going to work hard to bring this city a championship."

With the NHL Entry Draft looming, the Predators staff will set to work preparing for the big day. Expect updates as they happen.

2014 NHL Draft
6-23-2014 | Preds.NHL.com

The Nashville Predators entered the 2014 NHL Draft looking to improve their team, and they did so... just not through the draft.

The Predators swung the deal of the day with the Los Angeles Kings, acquiring Mike Richards from the Kings in exchange for Nashville's own 1st round pick, forward Gabriel Bourque, and Detroit's 3rd round pick.

When asked about the steep price, GM Pat LaFontaine held steady with his reasoning. "Mike is a champion. He can step in and be a guiding force for us. When I said we want to win, I didn't mean in a few years. I want this team to be a winning team next season. Mike helps us achieve that."

Nashville's other picks included the following:

Round 2|Pick 39|LW Nikolaj Ehlers|3 Gold Stars
Round 3|Pick 69|D Julius Honka| 2.5 Red Stars
Round 4|Pick 99|RW Luke Harrison|2.5 Gold Stars
Round 4|Pick 112|RW Charley Graaskamp|2.5 Green Stars
Round 5|Pick 129|C Curtis Valk|2 Gold Stars
Round 6|Pick 159|D Dylan Busenius|1.5 Gold Stars
Round 7|Pick 189|D Duncan Macintyre|1.5 Gold Stars

Ehlers and Honka with that low of potential?

Ehlers and Honka with that low of potential?

Actually, when I went to the contracts screen after, both of them had shot up to 4.5 stars in their respective colors. So I guess the draft analysis gives a different rating then after the players are actually drafted.

Yeah, the draft ratings are rarely accurate. How the **** did you get Ehlers that late?

What is the highest amount of points scored by your teams player while simulating? I'm in like year 6 or 7 in my NJ Devils GM Mode and I had to trade some good players away and let others go to the free agency cause some of my best players wanted big contracts ofc.

So I had to sign some lower-end players to fill the slots and I'm not saying that my team was bad or anything, but it was worse than year(s) before.

Well I ended year with 60+ wins and Reid Boucher had 142 points as a 84 overall. Anyone who has had him in gm knows that his shot becomes very good and he has been good 20-30 goal scorer in the second line, but wasn't expecting anything like that.

What was even more surprising was the fact that not only Boucher got that much points, but McDavid (90 ovr) as a 1st center had over 120 pts and Nikita Scherbak (88) (1st line rw) had over 100. Sam Reinhart (91) as a second liner had over 90. Seriously I've never had this much guys putting that kind of numbers and I thought that we'd be great defensive team with good goalie and elite defenders.

I just did something I always wanted to try. Took 3 years to build my team the way I wanted but we went almost undefeated and I simed every game.

ovechkin segan yakupov
Then the 2nd line and 3rd line where the highest rated defensive 4rth liners I could find. Very easy to trade for.
4rth line all top 6 Dmen. (surpising some have great faceoffs wtf???)

Then the d was Webber and Doughty Ryan Macdough Justing Shcoultz and two highly dfd guys with high d ratings.

Lundqvist in net.

We usually won by one goal and Hank barely let anything in all year. His numbers were insane. our Pk was insane. Ovi came in third for the rocket and hank took most valuable player. Cleaned house in the play offs till losing in 5 to the black hawks. Defense is the way to go though. might try and get another person who can score for the 2nd line but i am running with my crushing wave of defense.
