Highly doubt Larkin has any interest in going to a team that’s coming off a bottom 5 finish, maybe even dead last. He’s never made the playoffs and the CBJ have the worst playoff track record. But I didnt expect Gaudreau to go there either so who knows?
Don't see Larkin going anywhere and there's no way this would ever happen but I can't help but daydream about

Gaudreau - Bedard - Laine
KJ - Larkin - Marchenko

In your trade does a Contract extension are in place ?
Never a team will pay 2X a 1st for a rental player
I would , Colorado won last year they can do it again. Larkin improves those odds drastically especially if the next few years are gonna possibly be first or second round exits.

If Larkin and Horvat are going to cost in the same ballpark in terms of assets for trade and in terms of long-term extension cost, give me Larkin on the Avs 10 out of 10 times. He's a better player than Horvat even if Horvat's having the better season and his speed and skill is a much, much better fit in Colorado - not that I would thumb my nose at Horvat.

All that said - it seems crazy to me that Detroit would deal him unless it was absolutely clear he was going to leave this summer and was giving Detroit no chance at retaining him. And the idea that Detroit would send Larkin down the river to pursue Horvat is even crazier.

It's basically a season long staring contest over $1M/yr.

When Steve inherited the Detroit roster, he was grim about how long it would take Detroit to rebuild. Like insultingly grim. Fans didn’t like hearing that but we all assumed he wasn’t really including the likes of Larkin in that assessment.

Now I wonder if he *was* including Larkin in that assessment and recognized that Larkin can’t carry an offense before fans were ready to admit it, and now Steve is simply treating Larkin as the player he thinks he is: a 2A center asking for $9M.

Remember: Steve is the GM who played chicken with Stamkos to the point of letting him walk to free agency and get wined and dined by Toronto because he didn’t agree with Stamkos’ salary demands. He might just stick to his guns on Larkin and face the music if he can’t be signed by the deadline. He doesn’t have the luxury of risking getting nothing for him like he could with Stamkos as the GM of Tampa.

Larkin would thrive behind Mackinnon.

I'm surprised as a pending UFA there has been little trade speculation about Larkin. He still hasn't re-signed with Detroit yet no rumblings about teams trying to trade for him like in the Horvat situation.

Is it just expected that Yzerman will get the deal done. What contract is he worth?

I feel like there is little talk, because media have mentioned that Yzerman is one of the least leaky GMs for info in the league. He did the same thing with Stamkos, it took all the way until a few days into UFA to sign him. That said, the Wings can't afford to risk losing Larkin without at least getting something that might improve the team, whereas TB had the luxury of still having Hedman, Kucherov, Point, Vasi and co., and the team was a winning team. We need to improve. My honest guess is it will happen early to late June and he will re-up in the 8 year, 8-9.5 window.

Since it's all about fun:

Larkin @50%

For

Compher
2023 1st
2024 1st

This would suck. Compher is a 3rd liner and the 1sts would be 25-32 which means the chance of anything more than a 3rd liner is as grim as it gets. If they trade Larkin there needs to be at least a blue chip prospect along with at least a 1st if Larkin is re-signing with the new team.

They’re not about to trade for him at this point, but Columbus could be a very strong candidate to woo him away as a UFA if Stevie can’t get him signed. Geographical proximity as the next nearest nhl city to home, plenty of Wolverines including his best friend, and the cap space and a plum roster spot with an up and coming bunch of very good supporting talent (which might include Bedard by the time UFA opens) to offer. In no way do I expect any other result than Detroit re-signing him for 9-9.5, though.
But also, it's Columbus. And although Werenski went there... Larkin is still a lifelong Michigan boy.

I want this deal if we can then somehow flip those two firsts into Kyle Connor from the Jets. And then some mediocre pick for Tyler Motte. Give me CCM if we gotta deal D-Boss.

Yeah, if I were WPG I don't want two late 1sts for Connor. I want a lot more, as he is one of the more underrated offensive guys in the league. Late 1sts really unless really lucky don't hold very much value to me. 80% of them turn into 3rd liners at best and most of the rest are not even NHL players, with once in a blue moon a team gets a Vasi or Pastrnak late.

Oh no, I know. I know that's not a possibility. I'm just memeing that one. I'm so sad we weren't able to land Connor, he was f***in awesome.

Maybe we can put Zadina, whatever we get from a hopeful Bert trade towards getting Connor. Though maybe the Canucks have interest in Zadina as he does fit the struggling former high 1st round pick that they are said to want. Maybe they will overpay to get him, hehehe!

Translation….I want 8 yr at $11M. Y won’t go above $7.5M for 5 yrs.
It's been reported Larkin wants 8x9mm, Stevie 8x8mm. Fairly easy to conclude it will be 8x8.5ish or slightly under with Hintz and Hertl as the recent comps.

I think they'll settle in the middle at the Stamkos deal 8 x $8,500,000 rumor has it that they're only $300,000 away from it.

LOL Wy would Larkin sign with a Columbus team that's even worse than Detroit, Your D is in shambles outside of Werenski and Jiricek it's meh plus the Goaltending isn't great. Outside of Gaudreau and Laine and possibly Johnson and Sillinger they're not all that great as a forward core. Just hope and pray you get Connor Bedard.

If they were that close this would have bern done.
Who says it isn't? The deal could be easily signed in the next few days. Right now we just don't know. Larkin, Pat Brisson and Yzerman don't seemed to be worried right now.
