Friedman: Dylan Larkin requests trade

I'm not inserting myself into the larger discussion, but Pietrangelo was absolutely in that echelon at the time. A bit overlooked because he didn't have huge point totals, but there's no mistaking his overall impact. At least as deserving of the Conn Smythe as O'Reilly that year and it wasn't a fluke. He continued to be a monster in multiple deep runs over the next four years.
True. He was definitely a top 10 D in the 2010s. Not exactly a game breaker but one of a few D in that era that were just elite everywhere alongside Keith, Doughty, Weber, Sutter, etc

San Jose is bursting with young prospects and is about to become a premier team. Larkin helps give them the leadership/depth to balance out the team
lol idk that Larkins current situation leads to a “hey he’ll be the perfect leader for our young team” mentality

San Jose has celebrini and misa down the middle, you have to imagine misa jumps up to a quality 2c this next season.

"Hey Macklin, let me teach you how to get named captain, miss the playoffs for the next 9 years and then bail on your team".

Oh my, 83 pages. Haha, anyone care to summarise?
Red wing fans think they're somehow getting a package that would return an elite 1c, not a low end 1c high end 2c like Larkin.

Most other teams think a package of spare parts and rebuilding assets will get the deal done.

Truth is somewhere in the middle.

84 pages of fans from other teams explaining how Larkin is only worth B-prospects, redundant quantity-over-quality packages, and positional scraps Detroit doesn’t even need,,, all while simultaneously hoping their team acquires him because Yzerman is supposedly backed into a corner.

& we are talking Bill Zito here

Also San Jose needs a high end Dman, not 30y C

They could use both. If they went crazy larkin and Hronek and they are a serious team long term given larking had 5 years left and Hronek has 6 years. Both on excellent value contracts.

They actually don’t need Larkin very much tbh

The other question is how likely is Larkin to waive for at team where they are sending back a big part of their roster back.

Larkin knows he won't be sold cheap so he knows any team on his list if going to be giving up quality assets. That's already built in to the equation. He'll give his short list and yzerman will get a good price or wait until they increase their offers or larkin extends his list to a team that does.

Some DRW fans expecting a return that would be a overpayment for McDavid with six years left on his contract. Some being far more reasonable but still far too much. Many/most other fans low balling their offers. Neither really looking at what the other teams needs are. Typical HF trade thread stuff really.

Interestingly many DRW fans are pumping up Larkin to be on a slightly lesser tier than McDavid when talking to other fans, and this their outrageous ask is justified. Simultaneously though, when talking to other RW fans they're ripping Larkin to shreds, how he's a lousy player, very soft, zero leadership abilities, etc. Quite the dichotomy.

Look at my previous post…I’d like to think it’s pretty reasonable.

I don't think anyone is being unreasonable. The package will likely be three total pieces, featuring a combination of:
- A top prospect
- First round pick
- Young, NHL-ready player with potential

That's pretty in-line with what the trade will be. Centers are valuable this offseason in particular. Every team wants them and there aren't many available. Larkin is the best currently on the market, especially with his low AAV and remaining term.
