Friedman: Dylan Larkin requests trade

Why is this worded like a 30 point difference isn’t massive?

AJ Greer was paid 850k.
He had 17 goals and 32 pts this year.
Him and Lundell were nearly 3 million cheaper than Larkin's $8.5 million cap hit.
That nearly $3 million gap was paid to Rodrigues who also had 30 pts.

Florida wins with depth and balance throughout the lineup.
They need depth in net and on defense, more than offense.

Again. Florida doesn't need Larkin as much as other teams around the league.

I agree many other teams NEED him more to be competitive. Florida would be almost creating a super team. Barkov/Larkin/Bennett down the middle with wingers like Marchand/Reinhart/Verhaeghe is incredible depth not many teams in the east could match... Before tag along cup chasers are added and you consider Rodriguez/Eetu.

I prefer what works already and adding what Florida actually needs.
Larkin has 5 playoff games to his name as well, his regular season stats are fine but I'd be very surprised if Zito uses two of his best trade chips [I don't think Lundell is available but he has no trade protection] for an upgrade we don't need.

Its not a slight on Larkin, he's needed elsewhere a lot more.

Ah, superteams. They work. Just ask Colorado. Not the one this year, but 20 years ago too.

Yzerman is like Armstrong, in that they’ll try to honor the player request but will do it on their terms. Tarasenko requested a trade from the Blues and it took Doug Armstrong almost a year and a half to make that happen, simply because he wasn’t going to move him for pennies on the dollar.

Im guessing Army had a hard time finding a taker because of his injuries and cap hit. They exposed him in expansion draft and Seattle didn't even bother.

what would the motivation for a GM (any GM) to leak something like this? without thinking too hard I can name a couple drawbacks: Alienating a fellow GM and alienating the player and agent involved.
What would he gain?

It’s not just about what the Wings get in return….more importantly, Larkin has all the control about which team he gets traded to.

Of course, Yzerman can always play hardball and not trade him, but how does it help having an unhappy team captain?
Oh I assure you even if he’s back he won’t be wearing the C

A few teams jump out. I’ll go western conference only since nhl likes trading stars out of conference.

The Wild
The Ducks
The Kings
The Sharks
The Mammoth

The Blackhawks aren’t ready to compete.
Sharks shouldn’t tbh, just wait for misa + defense … no need to rush the window

Kings don’t have a whole lot to offer outside of like byfield

Yeah I think it's certainly an idea for Yzerman to let this situation rot the locker room and affect the rest of the team just to play a petty game of chicken with the captain. Hell he could even strip Larkin of the C if he wanted to make things really uncomfortable there. I think doing that would definitely not have any impact on him keeping his job one way or the other. Definitely a card Yzerman can play.

The Hughes brothers and other prospective free agents will be clamoring to play for a management team like that.

SJ has one more year of ELC Celebrini. They almost have to go all in next year, or else it could be a while. You can't waste ELC years just because you "have time" on your side.
Don’t they have like 80 mil available that offseason for celebrini/smith. With a ton of other talent that is still on elc ?

I guess it depends on what the ask from San Jose is, and if Larkin would even waive to go there

They do. You don't want to be a never was though. At least has been's won something. And nothing is guaranteed.
