I mean that's not "along similar lines", you're increasing the value of basically every piece there towards the Red Wings. Hayton is more valuable than Carcone, Beaudoin is more valuable than a 2nd and Simashev is more valuable than But. And you'd only "reluctantly" agree to that?
Starting to see what I meant?

Is Hayton more valuable than Carcone, who Utah just extended? Hayton is a 3C who is 1 year from UFA. He would be a warm body center filling in for Larkin before being flipped. He’s certainly underwhelming as the NHL level player coming. Simashev projects as a 2-3D and Beaudoin a 3C. The 1st is 19th overall. I’d reluctantly agree as Detroit is shipping off a 1C on a good cap hit with good term and not getting a quality forward prospect back and a meh NHL rental. Your original offer really isn’t tempting at all for Detroit. But projects as a Mantha level player.

Edit: I was wrong about Hayton, he’s an RFA this year. Not sure how much more value that gives him, I’m also not particularly attached to him being part of the return

Can I get Hayton instead of Carcone and Tanev?
I would do that deal if I were Utah. But could be special. Might not be talking about him for a couple years yet.

Meanwhile Utah has Larkin / Schmaltz / Cooley / McBain / Desnoyers / Beaudoin / G Smith for C options.

This place skews towards young assets.
Everybody does. We don't watch our teams struggle for years to collect high value young prospects to throw them away for 2-3 seasons of prime Larkin unless the team is already a guaranteed deep contender like Vegas.

Top Center prospects trending up are already so rare, in a decade of rebuild all Detroit managed to find was Larkin. Their value is high for a reason.

Wow, I'll be glad when Larkin goes anywhere as this is exhausting to read.

How about all agreeing that he's somewhere between a good to very good (at the upper end) player, not elite. Stop using highly cherry picked stats to "prove" he's the second coming of McJesus or worthless pond scum (depending on if you're buying or selling). And agree that the return, whenever it's finally hashed out, will be decent but not overwhelming. Maybe with 'a' top prospect and some good picks, maybe even a couple of B prospects too. But you aren't going to strip mine anywhere of everything they've got. Likewise you aren't getting him for three cap dumps and a bag of practice pucks.

And he has to be willing to go to your team in the first place. Otherwise, as a highly paid professional, he'll show up at training camp, greet the new captain, and do what he can to keep his value up while Stevie tries to sort things out...and we can stop digging through 5k+ posts

It was also different times and Kessler was seen as much more valuable than his points

He was seen as physical 200ft beast, not like Larkin is seen
If your comparing those 2 players / just compare their play in the playoffs.

Larkin can always say in the future that Pat Verbeek didn’t do enough at the deadline.

There's not a single thing in that package that I would be interested in if I'm Detroit. It's like me sending you Kasper, Danielson, 2027 and 2028 first rounders (Top-10 protected) and a random prospect of your liking, lets say Cossa for the sake of argument, and you send us Kaprizov (Let's assume with the same term but not the outrageous salary).
I don’t remember hearing Kaprisov wanted out though

this.

Larkin is a very good player. He's a 1C

But it still does not pry away guys like Desnoyers.

They are equating Larkin getting a return comparable to other younger 1Cs of the past to somehow being a massive slight on him, which is odd
Its probably somewhere in the middle. As a wings fans I'm confused with some of the asks. Yes we will ask for one of Iggy or Desnoyer but will probably not get either. Probably also means not good trade partner. Who knows though .... Not any of us that's for sure.

That’s what Utah fans have been saying all along. Nobody is denying Larkins value or that he is a great hockey player, I just think that we are not great trade partners at this stage of our rebuild

He's not.

Prospects of desnoyers caliber simply don't get traded unless they ask out or refuse to sign. The only example in 20+ years is a near 1 for 1 trade for a 25 year old 1C signed for 9 years who was 20th in points in the entire NHL over the previous 4 years, and who also had 4 consectutive top 10 selke finishes and who had no trade protection.

Mike Richards for Schenn+Simmonds.

The only thing in the current NHL that would comp to that would probably be Nick Suzuki

Bill Armstromg may think the mammoth are close. He's still not gonna move desnoyers
Lots of things rarely or never happened until they did. I mean there aren't a ton of franchise 1Cs who have been available for trade while still signed long-term.
This situation exists somewhere in the vicinity of the Erik Karlsson trade, the Jack Eichel trade, the Matt Duchene trade, the Max Pacioretty trade, the Quinn Hughes trade, the Marty St.Louis trade, the Drouin trade, the Phil Kessel trade etc. but it also isn't a direct equal to any of them.

Idk, the league is also in a pretty special situation right now where free agency is basically dead and cap space is in abundance. I'm not personally banging the drum for Desnoyers but I think any team who wants Larkin has to give up at least one asset that they feel really bad about losing.
