Friedman: Dylan Larkin requests trade, Part II

There's a deal to be made with Detroit, it just relies on them wanting to accelerate and introduce more certainty in their goalie situation, which obviously doesn't seem to be their prerogative.

I had info when they were exploring the whole goalie swap saga, from what I understand it hit a wall as soon as it was made known to Panthers that Hellebyuck could be available. So now they are back to 0 where Wallstead doesnt do anything for them

If he absolutely knocks it out of the park, his ceiling is something of a Bergeron. I think a more realistic projection is the border between 2C/1C, putting up 50-60 points and being good defensively.

We're talking about what ifs and projections here, not exactly something useful at the current state and there's always a chance that he may never be useful. Also the kid is what, 19 years old? That doesn't really fit with the timeline of our current young stars since the big ones are in their mid-20s. If Yzerman is gonna get a kid like this, he needs to bring him in a package which also involves another young decent player that will benefit the lineup today.

Someone around these boards suggested Peterka, Beaudoin, and a 1st round pick if we're dealing with Utah, and to me that's a lot better package than a deal centered around this Desnoyers kids.

I have no idea what Yzerman has as priorities. But I could not care less about success this season versus chasing a Cup(s) long term. So while I'm fine with also landing a Peterka or McTavish or whomever to help, for me it's all about a path to being a high end roster down the road.

Steve may let Larkin rot for awhile

Larkin is gonna be the one dragging this out.

With the deals that are being tossed around, I doubt somebody hasn't sent a whopper Yzerman's way. It's a matter of, is Larkin still being stingy about where he wants to go.

He's gonna have to open his list or he can continue playing here for awhile.

Minnesota doesn't have the assets, I dont see how bringing in a 3rd team helps them. Unless that team overvalues some of their roster players.

Presumably a team that really wants Wallstedt, although Russo also said they "Can't" trade him... So that must not be what he's thinking.

Maybe a contender that wants Brodin. He doesn't really do much for Detroit.

Larkin is quite a bit better than Byram.

... Chicago also made a ridiculous overpayment for Byram, so I wouldn't even bother comparing the two.
So true..the Byram trade reminds me of the Gobert to Minnesota trade and how people thought that was the new normal but that was just a ridiculous overpayment

I see it differently. Detroit would not be accelerating their rebuild by accepting Wallstedt as the main piece of the deal. They have Cossa, Augustine, Postava, Guimond, and Pradel all preforming well at their respective levels of play. Until then they have Gibson, who proved last season to be a capable number 1. The wings would take 5 steps back at the center position to further enhance a position of strength. Stramel and Yurov are spare sparts trade wise, and the Wings have enough middle 6 center prospects.

I'm sure this will get crucified, but here's my attempt at a three team deal.

STL: Mav Bourque, DAL 2026 2nd
DET: Jason Robertsson(extension in place), Lian Bichsel
DAL: Dylan Larkin, Pius Suter(50% retained)

Flame away.....

It's not exactly accelerating the rebuild, it's just gaining more certainty at the position. The guys you listed have minimal/no NHL experience, Wallstedt just finished 2nd in save % in his first NHL season. You know he can perform at the NHL level and the others are still just projecting the possibility.
